I think the story is that Funaki was a huge HBK mark in Japan and they became friends when he came to the WWF and got a chance to meet him.

Yeah, I remember that as well. I also remember him having something to do with Michaels' school.

 

His wiki entry also says: "Is good friends with Lita and Stone Cold Steve Austin in real life. Austin, a native Texan, suggested that Funaki relocate to Texas. Funaki fell in love with the state, and has been good friends with Austin ever since."

Man, what is with Funaki and Texans? Didn't he wrestle as Terry Boy in tribute to Terry Funk? Or was that Teioh?
