nl5xsk1 Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 There are a few forwards that I want more than this player, but the really good defensemen are dropping like flies, so I'm bumping him up on my board and taking him now. With my 8th pick, I'd like to welcome Dit Clapper to the Northern Lights Five. Please note: Clapper will be patroling the blue line for the Five. - Longevity: One of the first players to play 20 years in the NHL - Versatility: Played both defense and forward, and played both well enough to be named to the All-Star squad at both positions - Leadership: Set the record for longest reign as team captain, only recently surpassed by Stevie Y & Bourque - Importance: The guy was a Bruin, which obviously makes him awesome ... but he was also given props in Slapshot as being "Olde Tyme Hockey"
Gert T Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 With my 8th round selection, Gert's team selects: Mark Recchi/RW 7 time All Star 31st in Career Points 2 time Stanley Cup winner Not a superstar, but will be a good compliment on my 2nd line.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Ahahahahaha, was wondering when he was going to be picked.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Running out of good defensemen. I came up with this pick off the top of my head. Adam Foote
Zetterberg is God Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Time to start my second line Glenn Anderson 498 goals 601 assists 1099 points Six Stanley Cup championships Four time all star
CanadianGuitarist Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 I was right: Even though my coach has remained under the radar, I feel I'm lucky to have him available to me, so I'll take him (even with defencemen dwindling). He never won the big one, but his resume includes a President's Trophy, an honourary degree from MacMaster, a spot in the HHOF, and broken ground such as videotape analysis of teams. I'm proud to select Captain Video, Rulebook Roger Neilson.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 CG, you should update the 1st post, so it stops confusion like this... I'm not going to be looking through all the pages to look to see if a players drafted.
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Damn, Roger was my sleeper coach, too. And I was hoping Serge Savard would slip to me. Need to do some research...back in a few.
CanadianChris Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 All right, I'll start by taking one of the greatest defensive forwards of all time, winner of the first four Selke Trophies, a Conn Smythe winner, a seven-time Cup winner as player and GM, and a Hall of Famer: Bob Gainey, LW And the greatest mustache in NHL history: Lanny McDonald, RW
Lt. Al Giardello Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Damn, I was going to take Gainey... Oh well, I guess I'll go with my backup plan... Alexander Mogilny
CanadianGuitarist Posted June 7, 2008 Author Report Posted June 7, 2008 There's two recent players I'm kind of surprised that haven't been taken yet (many of their former teammates have). And while I think they're not going to last, I'm going to roll the dice in two ways: I'll gamble that one (or both) will be here for me later on. I'll also gamble by using the Griffey Rule with my pick. My pick has an impressive resume: Nothing from Lord Stanley, but a Memorial Cup, a Hart Trophy, a Pearson Trophy, a Canada Cup, and Olympic Gold and Silver. My team has no tough guys right now, and though this guy could score, he'll probably be most remembered for his size. That's discounting the Griffey thing - we all know what he'll be rememebred most for: Quebec never had Le Gros E, but the Canadian Guitarists do. Gentleman, my pick in the ninth round is Eric Lindros.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted June 7, 2008 Report Posted June 7, 2008 Was considering taking Lindros, in his prime he was great... But I just never liked him. Glad you took him before I did.
CanadianGuitarist Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Tough luck, Angle; Takerhart, go ahead.
the max Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Funny thing about that Lindros picture? There's no Nordiques jersey shown.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Really. I'm suprised this guy hasn't been taken. Fleury... Theo Fleury.
Zetterberg is God Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Wow, totally lost track of the order. So what happens do I get a pity pick or something?
Zetterberg is God Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Pierre Turgeon, C 515 goals 812 assists 1327 points Four time all star Lady Byng Trophy winner, 1993
CanadianGuitarist Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Really. I'm suprised this guy hasn't been taken. Fleury... Theo Fleury. CG's list: Theo Fleury He was one of the two I mentioned earlier. As for Angle, yeah, go ahead and jump in, after the pity-pick confusion of a week ago.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 I like the story on the 1st page.
JJ Johnson Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 You'd think so. Unless we've gone and changed the 12 hour limit to three hours.
