The NHL all-time draft

Recommended Posts

There are a few forwards that I want more than this player, but the really good defensemen are dropping like flies, so I'm bumping him up on my board and taking him now.

With my 8th pick, I'd like to welcome Dit Clapper to the Northern Lights Five. Please note: Clapper will be patroling the blue line for the Five.

- Longevity: One of the first players to play 20 years in the NHL

- Versatility: Played both defense and forward, and played both well enough to be named to the All-Star squad at both positions

- Leadership: Set the record for longest reign as team captain, only recently surpassed by Stevie Y & Bourque

- Importance: The guy was a Bruin, which obviously makes him awesome ... but he was also given props in Slapshot as being "Olde Tyme Hockey"

With my 8th round selection, Gert's team selects:

Mark Recchi/RW

7 time All Star

31st in Career Points

2 time Stanley Cup winner

Not a superstar, but will be a good compliment on my 2nd line.

I was right: Even though my coach has remained under the radar, I feel I'm lucky to have him available to me, so I'll take him (even with defencemen dwindling). He never won the big one, but his resume includes a President's Trophy, an honourary degree from MacMaster, a spot in the HHOF, and broken ground such as videotape analysis of teams. I'm proud to select Captain Video, Rulebook Roger Neilson.

CG, you should update the 1st post, so it stops confusion like this... I'm not going to be looking through all the pages to look to see if a players drafted.

All right, I'll start by taking one of the greatest defensive forwards of all time, winner of the first four Selke Trophies, a Conn Smythe winner, a seven-time Cup winner as player and GM, and a Hall of Famer:

Bob Gainey, LW

And the greatest mustache in NHL history:

There's two recent players I'm kind of surprised that haven't been taken yet (many of their former teammates have).

And while I think they're not going to last, I'm going to roll the dice in two ways: I'll gamble that one (or both) will be here for me later on. I'll also gamble by using the Griffey Rule with my pick. My pick has an impressive resume: Nothing from Lord Stanley, but a Memorial Cup, a Hart Trophy, a Pearson Trophy, a Canada Cup, and Olympic Gold and Silver. My team has no tough guys right now, and though this guy could score, he'll probably be most remembered for his size. That's discounting the Griffey thing - we all know what he'll be rememebred most for: Quebec never had Le Gros E, but the Canadian Guitarists do. Gentleman, my pick in the ninth round is Eric Lindros.

Really. I'm suprised this guy hasn't been taken. Fleury...

Theo Fleury.

CG's list:

Theo Fleury He was one of the two I mentioned earlier. As for Angle, yeah, go ahead and jump in, after the pity-pick confusion of a week ago.
