Great match with memorable spots (the table, Mad Dog Vachon's leg). I was really digging "Cocky Bad Ass" Diesel during this time.

I forgive the ending just because I remember it being a big deal. Did I mention that there was heat?
TheFranchise Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Shawn Michaels vs Marty Janetty Intercontinental Championship Raw Is War 1993 A sleeper but still a great match, Michaels issuing an open challenge for his Intercontintal Championship, and Janetty, surprising everybody, accepts, and with the help of Mr Perfect, defeats his former partner for the title. Great heat, and even better match. Here's a swell picture of the two.

When these two were in the ring, they just clicked. Fun match and I don't think there was anyone at the time that could match the speed of Tiger Mask except for DK, awesome reversals and it built off of their previous encounters nicely. I believe this was ranked #2 in the "Observers Top 100 matches of the '80's" list.

King Cucaracha Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Hulk Hogan vs. Earthquake Summerslam 1990 Not a classic but as with most Hogan matches in the US the atmosphere makes up for it. I wasn't old enough to have seen this at the time so the backstory of Hogan being out injured didn't mean as much, but it still felt like a big moment when Hogan came out. The match itself was pretty good, considering. And Earthquake ends up coming out strong at the end. Not your typical boot, legdrop ending, Earthquake raging with red chair marks across his back is such a great visual.

Angle missing the moonsault off the top of the cage, Benoit with the diving headbutt off the top and Austin on commentary just makes this one so fun to watch. Austin on Benoit: "I can't stand the little snaggletooth bastard!" Good stuff all around.

Cactus Jack and Kevin Sullivan vs The Nasty Boys Slamboree 1994 Foley & Sullivan put their past behind them to join forces and beat the hell out of the Nasty Boys to win the WCW Tag-Team titles. The four guys absolutely destroy each other, and the match being in philly doesn't hurt. Check this bad boy out.

It also felt good that WCW was proven dead wrong as far as their "Flair is a lost cause" attitude, as WWE did an amazing job of utilizing him upon his return to the company. Arn Anderon's run with to deliver the spinebuster is one of my top-five mark out moments ever.

I was just excited to see him back but for him to have an amazingly competitive match with Angle...that was awesome! I actually like this one a little better than the match it was building up: HBK vs. Angle.

THIS is how you do the "speedy underdog throws everything at the unstoppable champion, but it's just not enough" match and still keep the underdog strong. If AJ had fought Joe again the next show and beaten him, I'd be puzzled at the timing but it would still be believable. WWE could learn from this match.

To my last pick, I thought the match was solid between Dreamer and Raven, and it was nice Tommy got the win, but the most memorable part was the beatdown RVD, Sabu & Jerry Lawler gave to everybody after the match.

And I've seen 'em all. Literally. Best part: Before starting his big comeback with just the usual counter move or lucky break...AJ kicks out at ONE after taking a big move from Joe. Then...he does it again. Then he starts his comeback. Blew my mind when I saw it...and it was so simple.
