Bored 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Assume nothing! I'm going defense and starting with the man who completely changed the way NFL teams value the left tackle position and protecting the quarterback's blind side. name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&"> name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /> Lawrence Taylor, Linebacker New York Giants 1981-1993 Hall of Fame - 1999 10 time Pro Bowler 8 time 1st Team All-Pro 1986 Most Valuable Player 3 time Defensive Player of the Year 142 Career Sacks
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Aw, hell. I was positive I was going to get LT.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 LT was the fourth guy I was looking at that I mentioned earlier. Nice pick. I know who I'd like to have with my next pick and in a 12 team draft I probably could have gotten him. I don't see it happening in a 20 team, but you never know. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I debated on whether I should start my draft with a running back or a quarterback. After it was assumed (incorrectly) that Bored would take a certain Niner, I decided to take the only quarterback in 1985 to stop the Chicago Bears. Oh plus he had a couple of NFL records out of his career. Dan Marino, Quarterback Miami Dolphins, 1983-1999 2005 Hall of Fame Class member 9 Time Pro Bowler 3 Time First Team All Pro 7 Time Second Team All Pro 1984 NFL Most Valuable Player 2 Time Offensive Player of the Year (1984 and 1994) 1994 Comeback Player of the Year 1983 Rookie of the Year 61,361 career passing yards 420 career passing touchdowns
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Wow. This is quite the decision -- I'm completely torn between four different guys. My intention was to go with a quarterback, reasoning that running backs are a dime a dozen and I could pick up a good one pretty much anytime I wanted. But this guy was just irresistable to me: Barry Sanders, Running Back Detroit Lions, 1989-1998 15,269 rushing yards (3rd all-time) 99 rushing TDs (8th all-time) 99.8 yards per game average (2nd all-time) 10x Pro Bowl selection (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 1996, 1997, 1998) 10x All-Pro selection (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998) 1997 Co-NFL MVP 1989 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year 2x NFL Offensive Player of the Year (1997, 1994) 4x NFL rushing leader (1990, 1994, 1996, 1997) 5 1500-yard rushing seasons (NFL record) 4 consecutive 1500-yard rushing seasons (NFL record) 14 consecutive 100-yard games in 1997 (NFL record) 3rd 2000-yard rushing season in NFL history (2,053 yards in 1997)
Guest Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I'm going to take... Joe Montana. Easy pick, in my book. 8x Pro Bowl selection (1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1993) 7x All-Pro selection (1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990) 3x Super Bowl MVP (1981, 1984, 1989) 4x Super Bowl champion (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV) 2x AP NFL MVP (1989, 1990) 1989 PFWA NFL MVP 1989 NEA NFL MVP 1989 NFL Offensive Player of the Year 1986 NFL Comeback Player of the Year 1981 UPI NFC Player of the Year 1979 Cotton Bowl MVP 1989 Bert Bell Award
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Good pick with Barry Sanders.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I thought he might slip. Kudos to bored for having the stones to go Defense. I'm thinking about it myself, considering I think eternal all-pro defensive players are more rare and special than say, Marino or Montana (minor gag). Right the fuck on with Barry Sanders, too. He was my probable 2nd round special.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Taylor was number 1 on my board.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 1, 2008 6 on mine. There's a certain linebacker I want more.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I liked LT at #3 behind Brown and Rice. It is a gutsy pick because the numbers are not as dominant obviously, but from a game film standpoint, he is easily Top 5.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Daaamn, this was a harder pick than I thought it would be. I think I'll go defense, so I'll pick... Reggie White 13 time Pro Bowler 13 time All-Pro 2 time Defensive Player of the Year 1 Super Bowl championship 1,112 career tackles 198 career sacks (second all time) Well, I wanted a dominant d=lineman, and who better. Broward83 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Well, being in the middle of the pack I figured a lot of top talent would be taken leaving me with an easier decision as to who to take. My love for wanting to go defense caused me to look at a few people, but being a Houstonian and figuring he'd be one of the better QB's to build my team around (style-wise), I've chosen: Warren Moon Career Stats TD-INT 291-233 Yards 49,325 QB Rating 80.9 Career Highlights and Awards 9x Pro Bowl selection (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997) 3x All-Pro selection (1988, 1989, 1990) 1990 NEA NFL MVP 1990 NFL Offensive Player of the Year 1990 UPI AFL-AFC Player of the Year 1989 Man of the Year 1997 Pro Bowl MVP 1982 Grey Cup MVP 1980 Grey Cup MVP 1983 CFL Most Outstanding Player 1978 Rose Bowl MVP Oilers/Titans Career Passing Yards Leader with 32,

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Well, I have a few players in mind but still struggling with whether to go offense or defense. A little surprised Joe dropped (and Warren went so high) but that's just me.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 I am very surprised Moon went that high, not as much that Montana dropped just because people are very divided as to who the top QBs are. I would have drafted Marino before Montana too.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 As an observer, I'm shocked Moon went before 3-4 other much more highly acclaimed QB's.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Damn I figured Moon would drop to me... There are other QB's I'd take ahead of him.
Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted June 1, 2008 Reggie White's an outstanding selection, too. Number three on my big board. Anyone that takes my number two gets stabbed.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 2, 2008 MotherFUCKER. I was going to take Reggie White. And well, it's not like you guys didn't see this coming a mile away... THE ONE THE ONLY QB BRETT FAVRE The only 3x NFL MVP 9x Pro Bowler Holds the NFL All Time Record in: Passing TD's (442) Passing Yards (61,655) Passes Completed (5,377) Pass Attempts (8,758) Interceptions (288) Has started more games than anyone else at his position, by a long margin (253) despite also being the most sacked QB of all-time (439), never missing a game from 1992-2008 1x Super Bowl Champion, and played in another one Winningest QB of all-time His playoff record post-Holmgren is dubious, but his credentials speak for themselves. A reigned in Favre, especially at his peak, was a monster, as any Chicago Bear fan could tell you, what with how many 5 touchdown pass games he destroyed them with throughout his career. He was the kind of player that could win you a game as much as he could lose you one (as evidenced by last year's NFC Championship game). However, anyone could tell you his bad interception habit came as a result of 1. Putting too much pressure on him and him alone to win the game because the rest of the team failed him, and then forcing a bad pass, 2. His style of play, which resulted in jaw-dropping plays as well as head-shaking ones, and 3. Who was coaching at the time. His FIRE AND THE PASSION is unquestionable, and he was a reliable 30+TD guy throughout his entire career, and easily hovered around the 40TD mark in his prime. Here's a guy, who, if the Packers had just done the right thing and kept Holmgren and drafted a little smarter through Favre's career, could have won way more games, but did the most he can with the least possible. The Packers' playoff run in 2001 was easily his alone as they had NOTHING then since Levens was being phased out and Green was just coming into his own, and he could've been a 4x MVP if it wasn't for Tom Brady's amazing season in 2008. This guy is reliable, tough, smart, and by far a leader- and he makes everyone around him much better which is one of the core things you're going to look for in a quarterback. I wasn't going to let him pass me up, even if this might've been a reach. Realistically though, he probably wouldn't have/shouldn't have lasted past the second round anyways. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 5 QBs taken and not the one that I think I would have taken first.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 That's why I took Sanders. I'm confident there'll be a lot of QBs to choose from in round 2, if I want to go that route.

jwest27 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 Yeah, I was thinking that. I mean, 19 is kind of a weird number.
Just John 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 With the #12 pick, I select: Tom Brady - QB 4x Pro Bowl 2x All Pro 3 Super Bowl championships (MVP in 2 of them) 197/86: TD/INT ratio Career rating: 92.9 Most TD's in a season: 50 Had a 21-game win streak, first 16-0 season, blah blah blah Maybe an unpopular guy, but an undeniable top-tier talent. I wanted to pick up a QB with my first pick, so why not pick a guy who has won 3 SB's with marginal offensive talent, especially at the skill positions? Mr. Brady is a proven winner and I know anyone I draft here on offense will be better than at least his first two SB teams. I can make defensive picks for quite a while now and still put a solid offense around Tom in the later rounds.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2008 I'd like to take the 20th slot if Goblin doesn't want it. It''s quite alright if he takes it, though.
