The NFL All-Time Draft.

I was planning to go defence this round, but instead I'm going to probably piss some people off and take the guy I almost took yesterday morning:

I'll grab Jim Otto as my center. Undersized, but still a fantastic player.

FB Bronislau "Bronko" Nagurski

4 All Pros

NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team

Only player to be named as an All Pro at three different non-kicking positions

Former 3-time World Heavyweight champion as a professional wrestler

I could put this guy at pretty much any position and he would kick ass, but I need some offense, so I'll put him at fullback. I'm pretty sure he would be a good fit in Lombardi's rush offense (along with another guy if I can get him).

Mark May

Good interior lineman that while he might be annoying in the film room, on the field he'd be a good fit.

Hate to be such a tight-ass with the 8-hour rule, but I'm tired and want to go to bed. Anyway, I don't wanna wait too much longer to start my O-line, so I'll take:

dawson_dermontti.jpg

Dermontti Dawson - C

7x Pro Bowl

6x All Pro

90's all decade team

Played 171 straight games as a lineman

With the power running game, you need a big body to clear the middle of the line. Dawson has a lot of experience blocking for power runners, and he'll also be useful for blocking out all these big-time DT's.

Well, fuck. I was going to take Jason Taylor, but not with this pick.

WillieDavis.jpg

DE/DT Willie Davis

Career Stats

Sacks -- (estimated over 120)

INT 2

Games 162

Career Highlights and Awards

* 5x Pro Bowl selection (1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967)

* 6x All-Pro selection (1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967)

* NFL 1960s All-Decade Team

* 2x Super Bowl Champion (5 NFL titles overall)

* Pro Football HOF (Class of 1981)

At 6'3", 243 lbs., Davis is a smaller guy, but excellent for what I'm looking for in a DE- He's strong and stout, he plays the run very well, he's smart and knows where to look for the runner, and he can hit the quarterback. Davis was also known as a leader for the 60's Packers vaunted defense and was reliable and tough enough to earn the respect of his teammates. If they counted sacks back in the 60's, he would hold the record for sacks, as he reportedly had 25 one season and averaged in the teens for sacks throughout his playing years. It's to the point where Davis is actually regarded as the best defensive end in Packers' history- and that includes a guy named Reggie White. Personally, I'm glad he just fell all the way down to where I was picking; I'd been targetting him for the past few rounds and was watching the trends of the draft to see if the guys who I see taking more old-school players were going to take a chance on him or not, and I think I took him just in time right now.

Roger Wehrli Cornerback

2005_HS_Wehrli_1_7.jpg

Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach has called Wehrli the best cornerback he played against, and claims that the term "shutdown corner" originated as a description of Wehrli.

7x Pro Bowl selection (1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979)

7x All-Pro selection (1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979)

7x All-NFC selection (1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979)

NFL 1970s All-Decade Team

I'm going outside the box a little and taking...a fullback?

marionmotley.jpg

Marion Motley

1-time Pro Bowler (1950)

3-time 1st Team All-Pro (1946, 1948, 1950)

NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team

NFL 1940s All-Decade Team

#32 on The Sporting News list of 100 greatest football players.

Yes, the original fullback of the modern era. In fact, Paul Brown said he was the greatest fullback to ever play the game (including Jim Brown). Some people even call Motley the greatest player ever. More importantly, he was one of the first African-American players of the modern era. Motley was a beast of a runner, averaging 5.7 YPC for his career. He was an outstanding blocker, especially in pass protection. Motley was also a great linebacker (although I won't have him there for this draft). Even though the position of fullback has changed over the years, I have no doubt that Motley can succeed as a lead blocker for Gale Sayers. I can also line him up in a one-back formation and hand him the ball.

Yeah, Wehrli was already taken IIRC.

Sterlingsharpe.jpg

WR Sterling Sharpe

The Glory

- 5x Pro Bowl

- 5x All Pro

- Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame

- In the 1993 season Sharpe subsequently broke his own record, with 112 receptions; this also made him the first player to have consecutive seasons catching more than 100 passes. In 1994, his 18 touchdown receptions were the second most in league history at the time, behind only Jerry Rice's 22 in 1987.

The Stats

- 8,134 yards receiving

- 65 TD

- 73 RYPG

- 4 seasons with at least 11 TD

- 4 seasons with at least 90 catches

- Only played 7 seasons. At least 5 more seasons of 1,000 yards would've had him at 13,000+ career yards.

Played in the run & shoot at South Carolina and in the NFL was a flat out beast. He easily could've been among Jerry Rice/Tim Brown territory in overall stats when all was said and done. Gives me great size at 6'0" 207 lbs. to balance out the other two burners in Warfield and Maynard. He also really helped make Brett Favre into a superstar (33 TD in 1994).

Bastard. Sterling is a great pick, it's crazy to think about how much better the Packers could've been in the mid-90's with him on board rather than the B-grade receivers Favre worked with for much of his career.

I did it. Eventually, someone is going to have to tackle (huhuhhuh) categorizing the players on their team so it's easier to pick. You know, like...

QB:

RB:

FB:

WR:

TE:

OL:

etc...it would be really nice if everyone could do that so I could do a copy & paste instead of having one person waste their time on it.
