MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Recommended Posts

The worst MMA commentator I've ever heard is Daman "The Dawg" Perry, where it sounded like Bas wanted to strangle him on the few shows they did in between the Quadros-Ranallo switch. Kenny Rice is REALLY FUCKING CLOSE though, if only because he's a moron and is covering DREAM when he obviously has no idea about DREAM's scoring system, the rules, or the fighters. It's horrible. If it wasn't 5 AM when the show ends, I'd expect Bas to bitch slap him. Then again, Bas doesn't seem to know the rules sometimes.

I personally do not like Ranallo. I like that he is like Rogan and has a free mind...but his use of big words for the sake of using them, and his horrible prepared jokes or comments makes me hate him.

For my money, the best MMA team was Quadros & Bas, without question. Quadros to me is the best lead commentator, and is at the least acceptable as support, knowing when to get in with comments and get out. Quadros has a good voice, is highly knowledgeable and isn't afraid to let other people have a word in. Not to mention he had great chemistry with Bas on those shows. Ranallo/Quadros/Goldberg is acceptable as a team, with Ranallo bringing the over excited commentary, Goldberg with the obvious comments, and Quadros with insider~! views.

I like Joe Rogan as a commentator, I've been one of the few that has since he started. I think he plays favorites a bit, but he's generally fair. He's also not afraid to say whatever he feels like saying, which adds some variety and humor to UFC broadcasts when Goldberg just meekly goes along with Rogan's tirades. Rogan actually acts like the lead commentator during fights since he knows so much more then Goldberg, which is an interesting development of the pairing.

As for Mike Goldberg...Not a fan. Then again, I hate Goldberg for things UFC makes him do. Like hyping the main event of a PPV...on the undercard of the PPV I ordered WITH that main event. I *BOUGHT THE FUCKING SHOW* WHY ARE YOU HYPING WHAT I KNOW I'M GOING TO BE SEEING?!?! I also hate "IT'S ALL OVER~!", just for an irrational reason. I think the man is more shill then commentary, but with Rogan calling everything in his stead it makes an acceptable team. Goldberg shines when there's a third person in the booth where he can fade in the background and let Rogan and whoever it is (Couture was probably best...) do most of the legwork.

Except when he pulls out gems like saying that Mayhem was "light year beyond" GSP on the ground. I overall agree though.

I let a lot of Rogan's more asinine shit slide compared to Quadros because he's actually more knowledgeable when it comes to the technical aspects of the fight game, if not always the fighters themselves.

GSP couldn't finish him!

Mayhem would win the rematch!

Mayhem just got taken out by Jacare, a big strong wrestler with good submissions. GSP would fustigate him. Clearly you don't remember how Mayhem's face looked at the end.

Rogan continually trying to get across the nuances of the rubber guard is a highlight for me. Without fail the guy always lets it go in mid-rogan-sentence.

Rogan can hardly be blamed for the fact that with all but the most skilled rubber-guard users... that shits's getting passed.

Some rumored bouts floating around right now are Wanderlei vs. Thiago in a Silva vs. Silva matchup and Horodecki vs. Gomi at Sengoku 4. Apparently the option for Wanderlei was either Thiago Silva or Machida but it's looking like Thiago is the more likely opponent.

I'm actually anxious to see who Machida fights next.

To be honest I almost think that it has to be either the Chuck/Rashad loser (should the winner get the next shot at the title) or the Rampage/Forrest winner for the belt (if I'm wrong about the Chuck/Rashad winner).

They aren't messing around with Palhares. He beats Dan then he's right in line for a title.

I did find it odd that Rogan kept bringing up Anderson Silva during the Salaverry fight... I guess he's getting groomed.

I think right now UFC will be giving pushes to gives like Phalhares and Demian Maia because they've realized that the only style of fighter who will give Anderson trouble is somebody with serious skills on the ground. Not to say they'll win but I can understand the selling point.

Maybe not standing but from the little I've seen in the Salaverry fight Rousimir has freakish strength and great control so if he gets Dan down Hendo may be in for a long night of getting out-grappled.

Of course, The Big Right Hand puts an end to all this if it connects but I think Rousimir has the ground credentials to present problems.

Dominating an old, getting ready to retire Ivan Salaverry really impresses you all that much to give him a chance against an elite level fighter like Henderson?

Although I'll admit, I'm not too fimilar on Rousimir's grappling credentials... Rousimir hasn't done enough in MMA to make me think he can hang with the cream of the crop of the divison.

Logically speaking, Lyoto really shouldn't have to fight again to earn a title shot...but then again, UFC made Jon Fitch fight for a looong ass time before he got his.

Lyoto's going to have difficulty getting opponents from what I've read. People do *NOT* want to fight him. It's a two pronged attack with Machida. The odds of a boring fight are high, and the odds of losing to Machida are high. You could lose AND have a boring fight. Double whammy.

Out of those four names, I think Rampage or Rashad would have the best shot of beating Lyoto, if only because their wrestling is so strong. It's possible they'd be able to slam him and neutralize him. I think Liddell and Forrest would both lose, and likely quite handily by decision. Both are still somewhat wild punchers, which plays right into Lyoto's countering style. All it takes is one missed punch, and WHAM.

They have to keep Showtime happy as well. Showtime will get one big fight, CBS will get two. Makes sense.

Showtime's given them a lot of leeway. They could still get nuked with a bad rating or two on CBS.

So KJ Noons was a guest on Inside MMA and he was talkin' some pretty big smack on Diaz but the icing on the ice cream was when he pulled out a photo of Nick after their first fight and called himself 'The Artist' becase "This right here is a masterpiece and I painted it."

I'm a Diaz fan for life but seriously......PWNED.

I seriously don't get what your Noons hated is about. The guy obviously has skills as a fighter and (unless it's on the subject of Nick Diaz) seems really cool in the interviews. Hatin' cause he's a rich white boy?

I hated him because of all the lame cheesy trash talk he pulled before the Krazy Horse fight, and then he got bitched out...

KJ Noons trash talking was worse then Diego Sanchez's... I don't like his attitude. And he doesn't even look white to me, he looks like he has some Asian in him.
