Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Agreed. A huge step up for Vera and a marketable fight to get Jardine back on track. Jardine is a big 205'er as well and has (IIRC) a height and reach advantage over Truth. Should be fun.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 If the Vera of the Resse Andy fight shows up, Jardine will pick him apart.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 I think even the best Vera we've seen will have difficulty with Jardine. Then again Vera is an excellent kickboxer so if he lures Jardine into playing his game it could work in his favor. I don't see Brandon trying to swarm Keith like Silva or Houston, he'll be too gun-shy of getting caught.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I'd imagine that Aleks Emeliananko's career is now just about over. A source close to the situation spoke to MMANews.com’s Michael Moody on a condition of anonymity and explained that the blood tests came back right before Aleks and Buentello were scheduled to weigh in and that is why there was so much confusion around the stage and why the fighters did not weigh in. Gary Goodridge ended up stepping up on extremely short notice and filling in for the Russian heavyweight. The tests were positive for Hepatitis B which resulted in the CSAC cancelling the fight. Hep B is the result of transmission from exposure to infectious blood or body fluids containing blood.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Hep B is one of those "Never really go away" diseases, aint it?
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Yes and it's transmitted through blood which means no one will ever sign to fight him.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Shit. Goodbye Aleks, your drubbings of James Thompson and Ricardo Morias will always entertain me.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Thales Leities vs Dean Lister on tap for the upcoming Ultimate Fight Night in September. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 It should be an entertaining fight... Lister isn't really a boring fighter, just when he fights boring opponets. Leites is a entertaining fighter, and should push a good fight out of Lister. I expect Leites to keep the fight standing.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Uh, no. Dean Lister is very much a boring fighter. His PRIDE victories were snoozefests, his loss to Arona made my eyes bleed and he's never looked good in UFC. Bo-ring.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 I found the Arona fight to be entertaining... But it is what it is.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 Lindland has called out Belfort so that's a possible co-main for the Affliction show in October.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Tonight's edition of Inside MMA w/ Bas and Kenny in Osaka is worth tracking down for the segment with Urijah Faber and Joe Benevides alone but they also have a lot of other great interview including Tom Atencio, Big Timmay and others. Probably one of the best episodes yet. And I was laughing my ass off at how sweaty and disheveled Kenny Rice looked during the signoff. The guy is something else... I don't even know how to describe it.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 I do: BOMBED. He looked like he was ready to keel over at any minute. If you continued watching after Inside MMA you were treated to a fun MFC show with a good main event that ended in Ryan Ford getting armbarred by Pat Healy in the third round. Ford pretty much dominated everything but went to the well too many times and tried to slam his way out of an armbar which ended up being the finish. Ford, IMO right now has all the tools to become a top-shelf fighter if he tweaks certain areas of his game but his takedowns, strength and ground and pound were straight-up vicious in the fight. Props to Healy for hanging in and taking a beating to pull out the sub but I see Ford working him in the rematch.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 That's a bit of an upset there... Ford was originally supposed to fight Drew Fickett, if I remember correctly. Yeah, Ford will end up somewhere decent in 2009 I think. Oh yeah and this: FiveOuncesOfPain.com has learned from multiple sources that B.J. Penn is expected to fight Georges St. Pierre during a yet-to-be-numbered UFC fight card on Dec. 27 in Las Vegas. The finalization of the matchup is believed to be contingent upon St. Pierre successfully defending his UFC welterweight title against challenger Jon Fitch at UFC 86 on August 9. It's on. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Any word on whether or not this is going to be a three or five-rounder? Because, at least IMO that has a huge outcome on Penn's chances of winning. GSP, of course can win any time
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 BJ Penn is going to wreck GSP, fuck that Canadian Pride bullshit.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 It's not Canadian pride. GSP is a better fighter and will win. That simple.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 I really think they rushed into this BJ/GSP rematch too soon. Both have plenty of title fights that can make big money. But yeah, BJ is going to own the Pride of Canada.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Both fighters are much better than the last fight. But the tide really turned in BJ/GSP 1 when BJ gassed. BJ hasn't gassed in awhile... I feel optimistic that he can take GSP now but again, totally different fight now. They're both skilled it enough that I could see the fight ending 1 of 15 different ways. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 It's not Canadian pride. GSP is a better fighter and will win. That simple. There 1st fight told me different... And BJ didn't even really train for that fight. Lets not kid ourselves, if BJ didn't gas out he would've won that fight. I don't really think BJ has improved all that much, he's just taking his fighting career a lot more seriously now. BJ is in the prime of his career both physically, and mentally... GSP is not more skilled then BJ, you're on crack if you think differently.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 Well of course. Anybody who doesn't share the same opinion as you is always on crack or a faggot or something akin to that.

The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 Either Penn by a TKO or GSP with a decision victory. Match will fucking rule.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 GSP can take Penn down. GSP can hold Penn down. It doesn't matter whether or not Penn is better, more skilled, more talented, than GSP. Rush has the trump card in his wrestling and GnP. It's like saying a country has a better army, navy, and air force than the country that has nuclear weapons. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2008 I base it on the fact that GSP has taken down everyone he has tried to take down. He was able to takedown BJ Penn, when BJ didn't even attempt to stuff takedown. But like I said, even if GSP takes BJ down, it's not going to be a safe place for him.
