Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 How were the matches with Angle "shockingly" good? They had good matches in the past and while Angle's always been inconsistant in the ring but he is capable against talent like Rey.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 has any main eventer and eventual world champion been booked worse than 2006 Rey Mysterio? No. Sting was really fucked in his title reign(s) in 97/98. Orton's first reign was bad, and it took him years to recover from it. But nobody has been given a more condescending World Championship reign than Rey. Not even close. Are we only talking "World Heavyweight Champion" or WWE Title as well? If so I still think Chris Jericho's Undisputed reign was the worst. It was the biggest example of a burial I've ever seen. I mean hell Jericho wasn't even a factor in the WrestleMania 18 main event. He might as well not even been there the match was booked as if it were HHH vs. Stephanie.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2008 Rey's title reign was booked like shit b/c Vince didn't really want to give him the belt in the first place. He had to be convinced by Patterson to do it, and even then Vince and the writing staff was still reluctant

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 Jericho's title run is nowhere near as bad as reputed. We all knew he was jobbing to HHH at WM, so let's take that out of the equation for a minute. He did beat the Rock (even in nefarious fashion) at the 2002 Rumble, had a brief but fun mini feud with RVD on TV, and did get a win over Austin at No Way Out. I think the Austin match was worse than the HHH feud, just watch it. Austin gave Jericho nothing in that match and made him look worse than HHH did at WM. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 Jericho winning the titles and beating Rock at the Rumble was just great...even though you knew he'd job to HHH at Mania in lackluster fashion
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 The issue wasn't the inevitable conclusion. That's not why that reign is looked upon so negatively. It was the perception around Jericho that made the reign so awful. Jericho made the one effort to counter that perception with his lone highlight of that reign (the "I'm Not a Joke" promo prior to the Rumble) and it didn't change anything. He wasn't even the central figure in the WM main event. The main event was presented as Triple H Vs Stephanie McMahon with Chris Jericho. You won't see Batista Vs Vicki Guerrero with Edge. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 Well, the main problem is that they never went all the way with the Jericho/Steph relationship, likely because HHH nixed stuff like Jericho banging his wife in storyline (wisely to be honest). Since Eddie is dead he isn't here to protest Edge nailing his wife in storyline, and thus Edge has much more heel heat. Still, Jericho's run wasn't as bad as Rey's for instance. He wasn't out there jobbing in non title matches on a regular basis. Jericho's problem was more how they buried him completely after he lost the title. He was buried so hard that he didn't even make the next PPV after WM, then jobbed in a HIAC match to HHH, then jobbed to RVD in the KOTR semis (not really a burial, but another clean PPV loss). He also was the first guy who put over the ultra green Cena, then was the first guy in forever to tap out to the Figure 4 against Flair. I wonder, if Jericho had continued to feud with HHH post WM and regained the title at some point, would his reign be viewed so negatively? I think HHH's title reigns in 1999 were pretty horrible, probably worse than Jericho. HHH wasn't really over at all in 1999, and jobbing to Vince and that crap did him no favors. He also never beat Austin for the title. Russo never seemed to be much of a HHH fan, did he?
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2008 the one thing I hated with Rey's build up was how he stupidly lost his #1 contender spot by basically being duped in to it by Randy Orton's insults about Eddie. We know Rey has a big heart...now we know Rey is incredibly gullible. Then, he just gets the spot right back, even though he lost the No Way Out match...didn't make sense. It's funny, I watched that match with Vince recently on 24/7...man HHH used to really suck at promos...I mean once he became "The Game" (his stuff with DX was good). He's really come a long way since then.
