Thanks for the Fish 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 There's been subtle influences of MMA all over this show, especially in this match and McCool's finishing submission. I noticed this too. The referees are seperating the wrestlers and then pulling the "Are you ready?" "Are you ready?" "Fight!" gimmick to start the matches, at least the title matches. Michelle has used the Brazilian Heel Hook as her finisher for awhile though now.

Kristianna 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I'll be watching Raw tomorrow night I'm sure, but I don't really think anything out of left field will be booked for Summerslam. In retrospect, hell... I wish Punk/Batista was the main event, even with its finish. I'm not the worst of the HHH haters, but I really find the guy's work boring these days. I'd type more, but I've had most of a twelve pack and I'm pretty sloshed. Overall, PPV was fairly lackluster, but fuck, we've all seen much worse.

Thanks for the Fish 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 And what was Alisha doing down there anyways? From what I can tell, she was trying to help Edge by slipping him the title, but Vickie stopped that. I think the reason it didn't seem to work, at least for me, was that I expected a swerve and Vickie was going to help Edge. However if you accepted Vickie as pissed at Edge, then the whole Alicia/Vickie interaction makes more sense. I still don't know who Edge was aiming to spear though. I think HHH should have been the target and moved, along with Alicia and the ref - all parting out of the way to leave Edge leveling Vickie.

Thanks for the Fish 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I actually liked the PPV, of course I didn't pay for it (I only order the biggies). Hbk vs Jericho was the match of the night and I actually liked the referee stoppage (another MMA "shoutout"), Punk vs Batista was happily a better match than I expected, of course the ending was a cop out. HHH vs Edge was about what I expected, I liked Benjamin winning because SD! needed it's midcard title back, and the tag match and even the divas encounter were both solid. Only two crap matches was Henry/Dreamer and you had the heel turn of Colin Delaney (eh it's something) and the Cena/JBL brawl that I'm sure some of the fanbase really liked. MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 What about Tony fuckin Atlas? I try to refer to him as that as often as possible as I used to work w/ a gymrat several years ago. Another co-worker then started going to the gym and casually mentioned the weight he was lifting prompting the gymrat (who I had no idea he watched wrestling at all) to say "One week going to the gym and he thinks he's Tony fuckin Atlas". The randomness made me chuckle.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Edge/HHH was pretty standard and the ending was ok, but predictable a bit. Kind of underwhelming ending to a show that had its hits more than misses, but felt more than anything like it was a build to SummerSlam. But it was still a fun show. Timmy8271 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 The show was much better than I expected. Especially the first 3 bouts. I didn't think Morrison/Miz would lose the tag titles or Hardy would lose. The only match I didn't like was Cena/JBL. That was very disappointing. I mean no interference from Cryme Tyme or Rhodes/Dibiase? If there was one match I expected interference, it was this one. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I'm actually sorta glad that JBL got a relatively clean win. If they want to keep this feud going, then JBL needs to get some kind of heat on Cena. Though I must say Cena's recent booking makes him look like the biggest bitch on earth. He gets suckered by JBL and then JBL tries to run him over with his car, then at the PPV he has every opportunity in the match to simply pin the guy or take him out, yet he's out there playing to the crowd and doing 5 knuckle shuffles like a douche. I did notice the blood stoppage in the Michaels/Jericho match was similar to MMA. Not sure I especially LIKE it really, but it's similar. Personally I detest all blood stoppage finishes in wrestling since guys do blade jobs all the time and matches aren't stopped, so it's so random. I hope the rumor of a SS blindfold match aren't true, but this angle leads to it. Why would Jericho even agree to such a stip anyway, given that he could beat HBK in almost any other match right now? The main event was okay but the booking was disappointing. I figured HHH would retain after the JBL win, but I don't get any of this booking. Why did Alicia Fox even show up? What is her point even being around after the wedding took place? Edge doesn't really give a shit about her or anything, and I have a feeling that this entire thing is only going to bury Edge and kill his heat, kill all of the massive heel heat Vickie has, and keep HHH entrenched as a dull face champ. Raw's world title scene is actually vastly more entertaining. Punk/Batista was a pretty good match tonight before the obvious Kane silliness, and even then I enjoy seeing psycho Kane attack everyone including the cameraman. cheetoe 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I still think HBK/Jericho should be the RAW Main Event fued. It's easily the most compelling storyline, and the matches live up to the hype. Tonight's match sure as hell did. Punk's promo was money and the Batista/Punk match was just starting to get really good when Kane interfered. I wish it would have gone just 5 more minutes, that crowd would have been frothing at the mouth. I don't mind the setup to the triple threat match, Punk came out looking pretty damn tough. He's a future superstar and I think the WWE realizes it. I just hope they don't fuck up. The powerbomb after the match was somewhat unnecessary. Hardy/Shelton was good stuff. It was alot better than HHH/Edge, It had none of the build and no story behind it and it still managed to be better. I won't HHHate here, I think both guys are to blame, but all things considered... It didn't hold up well in comparison to HBK/Jericho and Batista/Punk. Cena/JBL was funny. It was so over the top that it was verging on ridiculous. Nice to see JBL actually win one. I feel so sorry for Tommy Dreamer. He's paid more dues than alot of the top guys and he get's thrown into these shit matches against guys who no one cares about. He deserves so much better Nattie Neidhart tapping out to Michelle McCool in a title match on a PPV is everything that is still wrong with the WWE in a nutshell. Just plain wrong. Speaking of that why are one of the most talented tag teams in the company constantly on the bad end of a midgets offense???
The Truthiness 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I wish we could've gotten a Vince Mcmahon update, but I'm sure we will tommorow, so it wasn't neccesary. I liked the show, but hated the ending to Batista/Punk. I liked the blood stoppage, it was new, and since it went over well, we might see more endings like that. It wasn't a stupid blood stobbage, like Luger vs Flair when I was a kid. They stopped the match, while Flair was about to quit to the Torture Rack.
Timmy8271 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Nattie Neidhart tapping out to Michelle McCool in a title match on a PPV is everything that is still wrong with the WWE in a nutshell. Just plain wrong. Why? I figured Michelle would win. Although I wish the match would have gone on a little longer and have back and forth Submissions but whatever. As for the end of the HHH match, Did you really think Edge was going to win or there would be any other ending to that match? And I don't think this kills Edge's "Heat" at all. Plus it can finally get him out of the title picture like the JBL feud did with Cena. Smackdown needs a new top heel and I really hope they give MVP or someone else the ball vs HHH. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Yeah but what are the chances of HHH actually trying to elevate anyone new? When has he ever done that with someone who wasn't one of his boys? I maintain that the whole Edge/Alicia thing would have been better off being a ruse that Edge had leaked to HHH. Cause I fail to see where any of this can lead to decent things for Edge. If he's not in the title scene, who exactly IS he going to feud with? Taker? What I mean is if you do this whole situation the fans will hate Edge, hate Vickie, not care about the black chick, and no one gets over.

I was hoping for something more I supppose. Neidhart should have won. If you have the option to put a questionable title on someone who can bring it a little credibility, you do it. Nattie comes from a distinguished pedigree. I think in 3 or 4 years people will say "Michelle who???" People will know who Nattie Neidhart is.

The Truthiness 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Well, Edge is 2-0 in taking bland chicks, and making them awesome heels. I don't see it being any different with Alicia, she doesn't have the back story that Lita and Vickie had. So it might take a little more work, but I think it will work out in the end. I just wish it was possible to keep Edge and Vickie heels and still have them feud.

There is a difference between the two. There's a reason why most of the "getting better but still not there" divas are on Smackdown(Maria, Cherry, etch) while Mickie, Beth, Katie, Melina and others are on Raw. Michelle is more over than Neidhart. If Neidhart would have won the title, who would have been challenger for her? Cherry? Eve? With Michelle as champion, you got several different challengers in Mayrse, Victoria and Nattie. However, I think Nattie will win the title sooner than later. I just wish it was possible to keep Edge and Vickie heels and still have them feud. I don't know why, but I can't see WWE throwing Vicki into a babyface role when they gotta see the tremendous legitimate heat she's getting now. She might just become this horribly vindictive "woman scorned" character who really still is a true heel or something, and just treats everyone like shit from now on with absolutely no bias towards anyone, just wanting to make everyone's lives a living hell since she got burned. One would think it may be possible that Chavo goes tweener as well as the one who gets the sympathy heat for Edge's betrayal of Vicki really falls onto, if that makes any sense. Vicki is still out of control, but Chavo would fight for her being screwed around with, against Edge in a small mini-program until Taker returns at SummerSlam. From that point, Vicki can move onto something else or maybe even be taken off TV for awhile when Taker/Edge starts up again. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see Vicki re-instate Taker, only for him to return, lay out Edge, adn then when Vicki expects Taker to be friendly with her for reinstating him, he lays her out and she goes off TV until she comes back as a firey woman scorned character who would still be heel. As far as Alicia Fox goes, I'll definately give her a chance as the character she is playing right now might have tendancies to be alright on screen. Bad girl who looks harmless but is all business to get what she wants. Reminds me a bit of the character Nancy Benoit has played as Woman in certain times in her career, or Terri Runnels as Alexandra York in WCW (wow, is that a dated reference). MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 I don't mind the Edge/Alicia/Vickie storyline the way it is as long as it doesn't take a backseat to HHH. Let HHH come out and pedigree whomever he wants as long as he doesn't take up more than 10 minutes of the show so La Familia can dominate the rest of the show as they should. It would be so awesome if somehow Edge/Vickie reconsiles ("But baby, I was trying to spear Alicia because I was concerned for you.") and Alicia still ends up in their group (maybe she can fuck Hawkins but sometimes she'll fuck Ryder if he puts on Hawkins's tights). Edge, Vickie, Chavo, Bam, Kurt, Zack, and Alicia. The Magnificent Seven of Smackdown.
