I parked in a handicap space

Recommended Posts

So I come home from a job interview today and stop to get the mail. I live in a condo complex so all the mailboxes are in one common area. I pull into a handicap space because it literally takes me 5 seconds to jump out and get the mail, plus there is another empty handicap space next to this one, and I have never in the whole time I've lived here seen anyone park in these spaces. So as I pull up there's a woman in an adjacent space (normal space, not handicap) and she stares me down as I pull into the special space and she looks up at the handicap sign in an exaggerated fashion and then back at me. Jesus, just what I need..... I jump out of the car real quick and she says to me "Are you really that lazy that you need to park in a handicap space?" I don't even stop, I just say "Yeah it's terrible, I know" and keep walking to the mailboxes. I mean I thought she might even be kidding. But as I walk past she says something behind my back which I couldn't really make out but I know it was not complimentary. I get my mail (taking all of 4 seconds, by the way) and then walk quickly back to my car, which I didn't even turn off, I left it running. She is in her car at this point and has the window down and says "That's real nice buddy..." I just ignore her and get in my car to pull away. She then backs up in her big SUV and proceeds to BLOCK ME IN so I can't leave. I look back and she takes out a cell phone and takes a picture of my car. She then speeds off to another area of the complex.

Seriously what the fuck? Whatever happened to people minding their own business? I was not harming her by what I did yet she chose to verbally attack me and then take my picture. I fully understand that it is wrong to park in handicap spaces and go into a store or something and I would never do it, but this is different. I was in that space for literally 10 seconds and there was nobody else around. Even if some poor handicap person happened to pull up in that time they could have taken the next space over, or waited 1 second for me to move my car. Then she takes a picture of my car like she's gonna turn me in or something. Don't people have lives? I was at Target a few months ago when I saw two people going at it over a handicap space. I don't know what the scenario was but it looked like one guy had parked in the space and actually went into Target and somebody else took exception to it. Clearly that is wrong, but at the same time, if he's not hurting me then it's not my position to call him out on it. Especially in this day and age where you never know if somebody is packing heat or what. Anyway, fuck her. She is probably just a miserable person who has nothing better to do w/ her life. Hopefully the police don't come knocking on my door tonight.

Opinions please. Am I a scumbag or is she just a bitch.

This is odd because I've heard stories like this, not only about handicap spots, but just general rudeness and busybodying, but I've never in my life experienced anything remotely close to this. Maybe I just look that damn intimidating.

She actually probably was joking all along.

My dad had one of those handicapped signs that hang on your rear-view mirror that my grandmother gave to him, and for a while was frequently parking in handicapped spots.

Wait outside of her house with a camera. Take a bunch of pictures of her. That's perfectly legal.

I have once or twice, usually for something like smoking right next to a door. I have a certain way of saying "Go fuck yourself." that renders people unwilling to pursue their bitching.

Break her spinal cord so that she has to park there for the rest of her life.
