Despite the star power, I wasn't expecting this to do well. The commericals made it look more confusing than funny.

Tyler Perry movies have gotten into white america enough that they could easily support a 3000+ theater release. They're no longer just "those black people movies"

Why is it so shocking a film with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and directed by the guys who just won the Oscar for Best Picture would be number 1 at the box office?

You had a solid cast, a solid trailer and a proven director combination.

Exactly.

Wow, quite the drop for Bangkok Dangerous, eh? Is that some of record for a second week drop (almost 70 percent!)?

I'm going to see that movie later today ironically enough (I just watched the original Bangkok Dangerous last night, and apparently the same director/writers and producers actually did the Cage remake of it), more than likely may be the only one in the theater.

Bangkok Dangerous' second weekend drop is 52nd all time.

I meant to ask last week, but when's the last time a Pitt or Clooney had a non-action/action-comedy blockbuster?

I guess you're not counting the Ocean movies. Clooney's never really had one. Pitt had 100 mil grosses with Seven and Interview with a Vampire.

Great to see "Burn After Reading" take the top spot. I saw it yesterday, and it's hilarious.

I figured Burn and Perry would change spots...I figure any Tyler Perry movie opening at a weak time is for sure #1.

Holy Bangkok Dangerous bomb Batman.

Dunno what to think about the new Deniro/Pacino movie. I like both guys a lot, but I can't help but think the movie will disapoint me

Guest Smues

I had no idea that another Tyler Perry movie was coming out this weekend. But I'm white, so I guess that's to be expected.

Color me surprised that Burn After Reading got #1 as well. Yes, it had Clooney, Pitt, and the directors of last year's Best Picture (and a solid trailer). But as Bob pointed out, Clooney and Pitt are huge stars but not exactly huge box office draws (if that makes sense) and it's not like Coen Brothers movies pack 'em in either.

I'll write more about this tomorrow after I see it, but Proud American had the worst wide release opening of all time.

The movie averaged approx 1.69 people per show.

*looks up movie on IMDb*

Wow...wow...that sounds awful. Proudly boasts the fact that Wal Mart helped fund it and has a vignette about the founding of the chain. Yakov Smirnoff in a cameo as himself. Mr. Belding and The White Shadow make appearances. I'm going to add this to my NetFlix queue the minute it comes out on DVD!

What's a substantial portion of $0?

Ruthie from 7th Heaven and the backup running back from the Friday Night Lights movie is in it too.

Thanks for that astute observation, Deon.

Bob- I would so see Proud American in theaters if it wasn't for the fact that the nearest theater playing it is a good ninety minutes away and I don't have a car right now.

Why do you have to be a smartass? I was clearly stating it because people haven't seen the film yet and are going to compare the films given the leads. Unlike Bob's assessment, I didn't think RK sucked.
