fazzle 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 $30.5 for Saw? That's it? WOW, it took a huge fucking nosedive after that 14 million opening day.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I honestly thought HSM would make like $70 million this weekend. Does that make me an idiot? The Miley Cyrus 3D concert movie made $30 million in its opening weekend with a lot less theaters, and I figured a lot more people would want to see HSM than a concert movie. Apparently not so? BUTT 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 $30.5 for Saw? That's it? WOW, it took a huge fucking nosedive after that 14 million opening day. Saw II through IV all made in the low thirties in their opening weekend.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 $30.5 for Saw? That's it? WOW, it took a huge fucking nosedive after that 14 million opening day. The SAW movies are all front-loaded like that. Every SAW opens to about 30 mil and then has a steep drop-off. The final gross should be in the mid-60s. I honestly thought HSM would make like $70 million this weekend. Does that make me an idiot? The Miley Cyrus 3D concert movie made $30 million in its opening weekend with a lot less theaters, and I figured a lot more people would want to see HSM than a concert movie. Apparently not so? I thought it'd do 65 million going in, and after the opening day, I thought it would do about 55-60. No way should a kids movie fall 9 percent from Friday to Saturday. I think it will hold up well though, kids movies usually do. The movie barely cost anything to make, so I'm sure Disney is happy.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Saw movies cost so little to make...we'll be seeing them forever. No real shockers, although I didn't expect to still be seeing Mike Seaver's God movie in the top
fazzle 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 $30.5 for Saw? That's it? WOW, it took a huge fucking nosedive after that 14 million opening day. Saw II through IV all made in the low thirties in their opening weekend. Yeah, the actual total itself isn't surprising, but after I saw it make over $14 million on opening day, I was expecting more. I mean, it just barely made more on Saturday and Sunday COMBINED. Gonna be an ugly second weekend dropoff.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 The last three SAWs have all had 14 million opening days leading to 30 million weekends.

DarKnight 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Yeah, the Saw movies just make their usual $60 million something at the box office. Kinda like how the Friday the 13th movies used to be.
CBright7831 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 This is the first SAW movie to not hit number one - am I correct? EDIT - Survey says X
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 SAW 1 was #3 behind Ray and The Grudge
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I honestly thought HSM would make like $70 million this weekend. Does that make me an idiot? The Miley Cyrus 3D concert movie made $30 million in its opening weekend with a lot less theaters, and I figured a lot more people would want to see HSM than a concert movie. Apparently not so? The tickets for that movie were also higher priced than standard movie tickets...I think my wife spent $25 just on tickets for her and our daughter.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 Yea, tickets for Hannah cost between $10-15 I believe.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I have to admit, that number for HSM3 does seem a tad underwhelming. You and I aren't helping Bobby...I won't be going this weekend either.

Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 They gave the first two away on tv didn't they?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 The first two were Disney Channel original movies.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I never got why they didn't release the second one in theaters. Sure no one would have predicted how freakishly popular the first one would become but I'm sure they had an idea that the second one would make a shitton of money especially since they can't cost that much money. BUTT 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 There's not an established precedent for releasing TV-movie sequels in theaters. The Disney corporation knows what they're doing.
Craig Th 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2008 I thought HSM was going to make $50 million. Pretty close.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I'm sure a lot of people are waiting to see HSM3 until it comes out on DVD or gets aired on the Disney Channel 500 million times...like most people did with HSM and HSM2.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 You know, with Halloween being next week I think Saw V has a better shot of retaining some audience than it would otherwise, unless everyone is out trick or treating. After that though....not so good.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I liked how the market for Saw V implied it was a franchise finale yet there's a TV show on about casting females for Saw VI. Ah, horror franchises.
cd213 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I'm not surprised by the list at all. I was hoping SAW V could pull it out, but I wasn't expecting it would. Every year people ask about a new SAW movie, after the first film did so well, Tobin Bell signed on for 6 movies. For the start there was going to be at least 6 movies. As much as I love this series, I really wouldn't like it to go past 6.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I was surprised HSM3 didn't make more than it did to be honest. When my girlfriend and I were getting tickets for Saw 5 on Friday afternoon, I was seeing time and time again, where a couple adults would show up with 10-15 kids in tow (possibly a day care field trip?), buying tickets for HSM3 for all of them. I have a feeling HSM 3 will probably have a lot of staying power in theaters. My girlfriend's niece for instance, watched the first one on Disney Channel, I know at least 15 times, maybe more. I can see lots of kids begging their parents to take them to see this time and time again.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Well, as far as Saw V goes on Halloween I meant that people are at various functions that night, might take a kid trick or treating instead of going to a movie, stay home to hand out candy, anything other than going to the theater.
