King (Real tough one- I figured at least one Beatles song would advance to the next song- not sure if one song by a black performer would though! Seriously though, both are iconic songs of the decade that are overhyped. But given the fact that "A Day In A Life" wins so many greatest songs lists, I don't see why it needs to win this one. "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees GROUP C "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley (Another tough one- as I'd be eliminating the last song that I nominated still on the ballot) "My Generation" by The Who "The Weight" by The Band "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys GROUP D "Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan "Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones "Norwegian Wood" by Beatles And "Time of The Season didn't make it to Round Three. Guest Czecherbear Report post Posted November 22, 2008 YNA never gives results, so I can never see right off the bat which songs should have made it to this round. Alas. "Respect" by Aretha Franklin: the money Cash song, as it were, is "Walk the Line." I find "Ring of Fire" a little hokey, with those stupid trumpets. But "Respect," that's the stuff. "Cupid" by Sam Cooke: NEVER TRUST ANYBODY OVER NINETY "She Loves You" by The Beatles: oooooh. Tough. Tough. "Time of the Season" was my bid for organ supremacy, and I love this one too, but I stick by the harmonic brilliance of "She Loves You." "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye: I already explicated the greatness of this arrangement, and "I Get Around" is my favorite Beach Boys song, anyway. "Hey Jude" by The Beatles: an easy winner in this Beatle Battle. I do like 8 Days, though. "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks: not a big fan of this one, but CCR can lick my sack. "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles: this was so fucking hard because I love both, but I feel the crowning achievement for Motown Records is accounted for above, while this is the crowning achievement of the Beatles. Tough but fair, just like my old honors world history teacher. "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees: cutest little song left in here, I feel. Unless there's one below it. I'm filling these in as I go along, you see. This song feels like a hug where both of us are wearing sweaters. "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley: one of the better Elvis tunes. How did fuckin' "Space Oddity" hang in here? "My Generation" by The Who: I care for neither, but this is marginally better. "The Weight" by The Band: second-best Band song. Was "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" in this? I forget. "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys: AT WHAT POINT ARE WE GOING TO CORRECT "VELVETE UNDERGROUND" FOR FUCK'S SAKE. I'll take the micromanaged grandeur over the hot mess, as well as the one that's not a typo. Man, between Velvete and Garfunkle getting repeatedly pasted, I'm going to lose my mind. "Venus in Furs" by The Velvet Underground: and yet it's correct here. Damnedest thing. "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs: Yeah, Bob's great and all, but I said I was gonna push Onions till my dying day, so there. "Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones "Norwegian Wood" by Beatles

Guest Smues Report post Posted November 23, 2008 GROUP A "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash vs Respect" by Aretha Franklin I like both, but Respect is a classic. And funner to sing along to. "Cupid" by Sam Cooke vs "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream Again I like both, but gets the nod. Could someone please explain the over 90 thing? I don't get it. "The House Of The Rising Sun" by the Animals vs "She Loves You" by The Beatles Easiest choice so far. "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye Toughest choice so far. Marvin is better. How often does THAT phrase get said on TSM? vs "Good Vibrations" by Beach Boys GROUP B "Eight Days A Week" by The Beatles Easy choice. As mentioned in previous rounds I've never understood the hey Jude love. And Eight Days a Week is catchy and easy to sing along with. vs "Hey Jude" by The Beatles "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks You really got me. You really got me. You really got me. vs "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles vs "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King Never cared for A Day in the Life either. It helps that Stand By Me is great too. "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees vs "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison Both are good, but Daydream Believer was kind of ruined by that Ebay commercial. GROUP C "Space Oddity" by David Bowie vs "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley Elvis > David Bowie "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones vs "My Generation" by The Who I think I'm in generation Y, but I'm not sure. Nor do I really care. "Purple Haze" by The Jimi Hendriz Expierence Jimi was the man, The Band sucks, and I hate their name too. vs "The Weight" by The Band "Heroin" by The Velvete Underground vs "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys I'm not sure any song is going to beat this. GROUP D "Venus in Furs" by The Velvet Underground vs "Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles Surprised this song made it this far, didn't know it was that popular. "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the MGs In his WCW and WWF career did anyone ever reference the MGs when cutting a promo on Booker T? I don't remember it ever happening, and it seemed like an easy set up. vs "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan "Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones vs "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" by James Brown Didn't James Brown die on Christmas? That's sad. "Norwegian Wood" by Beatles vs "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong Like I'm voting against Satchmo
