Guest Smues Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Why I always wait to post this thread when I'm drunk after the party I don't know. Once of these years I will post this BEFORE the party. So what was yours like/what will it be? Mine? they changed venues this year. Instead of a this famly restaurant where we got a private b ar AND BATHROOM! we've had the last two years, this year it was a fancy smancy restaurant downtown. The food was good, but limited menu, as opposed to full menu the last 2 years. Plus the drink service was SLOW. We were at this place for 3 hours and i think i got to order 5 drinks. at the old place we had a private bar, and went through a shitload of a drinks. we got more drinks at the after party bar, and usually that's not the case. But thte afterparyt bar was quite nice. One of the obbses...bosses went, and he ocvered our tab ther. of course i bought 2 drinks before the bartender told me, this. but that was ok. I plunked a fuckload of money into the jukebox. the best part was pselctting the full version of Miles Davis' bitches Brew. it runs closed to 30 minuted. After like 20-025 people were saying What THE FUCK IS thIS??? and eventually the bartender skipped it. I picked it soley for that reason, because its so long and it pissed people off. And I had fun singing along to all the other shit I picked. YA! YOU'RE ALL GOInG TO BE IN ThIS EXPERIMENTAL FILm AND evEN THOUGH I CAnT EXPLAIN IT I ALREADY KNOW HOW GREAT ITS GONNA YA!!! Anyway, fancy smancy dinner but it was good and probably expensive, and all food and drink were paid fro there, and at the bar 60% of us went to afterwards, and I had fun. And they didn't uninvited me, even though I announcedm y resignation on Monday, so that was nice. Oh and I cgot my ass kicked at darts. So, what happened at you guys...es? Christmas parties? kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 That's when the paper plates came out. And the main course is killed the night before rather than the morning of the feast. The building will have some potluck lunch on 12/18 and we will all bring something. (I just like to provide Pepsi; every group needs a beverage person or two.) My former job had this lunch at a nearby restaurant. For three of the four years I was part of this I didn't attend. 1) I had actual WORK before the Christmas holiday, and 2) I don't like going places where I don't care for the people hosting the event. I went my last year because I wanted to get my Xmas $100 "bonus" check because the year before when I didn't attend they tried to jew me out of it, and it took them almost two months to "find it in the safe." But anyway, yeah, paper plates. And plastic cups. So how much time will you have left at your workplace after the Office Party?
Guest Smues Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Two weeks. I was hoping to make this Friday the 12th my last day, but it was decided at the party that my last day will be Friday the 19th. But I've really only got 4 more office days left (besides today) because I go to Juneau for work through at least Thursday of this week, will be back for most of Friday, then I go out of town again (not for business) and don't get back until Tuesday evening, leaving just Wednesday Thursday and Friday of that week before i'm done. It was kind of awkward going to the party with everyone knowing I'm gone, especially when the drunken boss asked me if I had reconsidered. Thankfully before I could panic he laughed and said he was just joking. But the real awkward part will be spending the week with said boss in Juneau.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... PEPSI? What sort of sick new-age hippie disgusting drink are you bringing around to your office, man? That's just cruel. Me, I prefer Shasta or Coca Cola. Pepsi gives me enough cause to drink Dr. Pepper.
Guest Smues Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Pepsi >>> Coke. In our office fridge the sodas that we go the quickest through is Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr. Pepper. I think like one can of Coke or Diet Coke might be consumed per month.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Whoa, whoa, whoa... PEPSI? What sort of sick new-age hippie disgusting drink are you bringing around to your office, man? That's just cruel. What's funny about the above post is that I was going to say "pop," but then I was expecting someone to go, "OMG U SAID POP LOL." I was then going to say "Coke," but then I was expecting someone to go, "OMG U BRING DRUGZ LOL." I was then going to say "whatever cola beverage is on sale," which is what I'm actually going to do, but then I was expecting someone to go, "OMG CHEEP J00." Guess I should have said "pop" after all. (I don't say "soda.") Actually, I'm a Pepsi person although I do like Coke when I'm in the mood. However, 99 percent of my pop consumption consists of "diet" drinks. Yeah, I know the chemicals are going to kill me or add a fourth ball to my sack. I'm looking forward to it.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 I've never been to a christmas party for a business i've worked for before, but the job I started 2 weeks ago has theirs this Friday and i'm going to it. Going to a restaurant (pre-ordered the food already, i've got chicken strips, steak & christmas pudding) and then I assume into town after. I am, of course, working the following morning (Let's see how many ring in sick!) but there's about 25 of us going. KKK, can you do me a favour, living in England i've always been curious, what classes as 'soda'? I've seen coke and lemonade called soda on tv so far. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2008 Soda, in my neck of the woods, is another word for pop, cola, Pepsi, Coke, etc. The problem with me is that in my advanced age I remember some restaurants calling "soda" what many would term "milkshake" or "float."
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Oh, speaking of which: I've always grown up referring to the drink as soda, although I understand the reasoning for calling it 'pop' as the always provincial Oregonians have explained it to me: Soda is confusing because you might be referring to soda water/club soda and Coke is confusing because they may not have that particular brand- I guess in other states if you say Coke, they'll bring you like Dr. Pepper or something or even Pepsi without telling you, which would probably infuriate me. And my preferred soda is probably going to be any one that has sugar instead of HFCS. Mexican Coke in a glass bottle is the best (non alcoholic) drink on earth. Behind that, Diet Shasta is usually the way I go since it's like $2.49 for a 12 pack from Winco Foods.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 So don't drink the water but rather the soft drink. Got it. *Looks at map.* My county is in an 80-100 percent pop category and borders a 30-50 percent soda county. This may be the only time I'm thankful to live in a blue county. And I understand why "Coke" can be the "universal" term for soft drinks. Much like "Xerox" for "copy." Of course when I'm at a restaurant I try to say "cola" because whenever I say "Pepsi" the waitress says "Is Coke OK instead?" and versa vice.

Actually I think fancy smancy up here is when the moose was killed by a hunter and processed professionally, instead of hit by a car and scooped off the road. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Office party was this past Friday. Held at a swank country club, but the food was blah and you had to pay for the liquor. Really dull overall, so me and the gf didn't stay for long.

Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 At my old job, they didn't have a christmas party, but instead had a winter/holiday party. It was normally held at a Mariott with all you can eat and drink (even liquor). This year, at my new job, we're having the standard pot luck office party with "ornament exchange"
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Odds are good I'll be one of the last four or five people to leave at around 6:30 AM Christmas Eve. Might smoke a bowl and have a rousing game of pallet-chuckin', just for old times.

HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2008 Last year at my old companies christmas party, I got plastered off whiskey and made out with the accountant woman, who then made out with one of the VP's in front of his 16 year old son, who I use to smoke joints with. I then went on to hit on every hot girl within a 5 year age difference. It sucked since it was on a Thursday and we had work the next day. This year, my new company is very small (only 5 people), so the boss is having a small party at his place. Good thing I have a party to go to that night, so I won't have to stay long. Everyone I know calls it "Tonic", which is universal for coke, pepsi, ginger ale, ect. My dad called soda "tonic". I still have memories of being with him one weekend when I was five or so. We were at McDonald's and he kept telling me to "drink your tonic" and pointing to my cup. But next to my cup was my dipping sauce for my McNuggets, so I thought he wanted me to drink my sweet and sour sauce. Finally, he slammed the cup down in front of me and told me to drink and I realized what he meant.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 The company I work for hosted a Christmas party at one of our sister lodges. This was probably the best Christmas party I've ever been too. DJ playing good music, awesome finger food that all four lodges made, tons of booze and some very fine looking women. Highlight of the night is when I'm talking to my boss and the director of operations of PTI Oilsands Division, two fistin some Kokanne and missed my mouth, spilling all over my shirt. Tonight though, we served our Christmas dinner to the clients at our camp. 1500 of them.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2008 Guy gets laid off and goes postal at the christmas party 1 dead after sacked employee opens fire at Vancouver Christmas party Last Updated: Friday, December 12, 2008 | 11:26 PM An employee is escorted out of the company in east Vancouver where a shooter killed one man Friday afternoon. A disgruntled ex-employee walked into his former company's Christmas party in east Vancouver on Friday and opened fire, killing one man, police said. The 61-year-old gunman was taken into custody at around 6 p.m., about two hours after the shooting took place, after talking on the phone with police negotiators, Vancouver police Const. Tim Fanning said. "He gave himself up to police. Once we got inside, we did in fact find that one man had been shot dead," Fanning said. "There were no hostages. He did let everybody else go. He shot just one man." Fanning said the shooter would not be identified until formal charges are laid against him. Vancouver police Const. Tim Fanning says a 61-year-old man gave himself up to police after talking on the phone with negotiators. (CBC) "He did work at the company and was recently let go," Fanning said. Some witnesses told CBC News the gunman was fired this week. The victim's identity has not been confirmed, either. Police were called to the scene of the shooting — at TallGrass Distribution Ltd., a Vancouver-based company that supplies natural-health products to the Canadian market, according to its website — at around 4 p.m. Dozens of officers arrived, cordoning off three city blocks near East 5th Avenue and Quebec Street. After the incident, investigators were taking statements from at least a dozen witnesses at a police station Friday night.
