TSM 2008 Year-End Awards: The TSMmys

Recommended Posts

This idea is split from the current thread about the 2008 Poster Tournament. Basically it's a thread to reflect on the year at TSM. Let's hear it all... the good, the bad, the ugly and the Marvin. No format is necessary here. Feel free to come up with your own categories and reflections.

Here are a few ideas to get your started:

Thread of the Year

Folder of the Year

Feud of the Year

Post of the Year

Dumbshit Moment of the Year

Worst Poster

Funniest Poster

TSMeme of the Year

We still have a whole month until the Poster of the Year tourney. Have fun, but don't burn yourself out.

Funniest Thread of the Year

Chris Masters & JN News have died (Technically 2007, but it happened in the last year)

This one had it all. JN News, fresh off his "Pizza Hut's Game Face" debacle breaks a major news story - Chris Masters is dead! However, we soon find out Mr. News was played for a fool by his MSN contact. From gargoyle Edge to "and now we play the waiting game" to Meltzer's fake-out confirmation to the Dantaur, this was a non-stop laugher.

"Boarding Hard" Thread of the Year

The TSM Market Research Thread

Who would have thought that TSM could comment on itself and not invoke one dick picture, stupid flame war or ridiculous non-sequitur (okay one quick one about La Parka)? Everyone takes the opportunity to "board hard." A great moment for TSM and a great moment for America.

Worst Thread

Campaign 2008

Could it really be anything else? Technically, this thread started years ago, but it didn't reach its nadir until 2008. What a steaming pile of shit this was, and given the incredible size and scope of the thread and the importance of the subject matter, it may have been TSM's lowest moment. From Marney's return to Marvin's Glenn Beck-suckfest to the nauseating rise of the liberal echo chamber, nothing stops this thing. May God have mercy on our posting souls.

Moment of the Year

Mole's burgeoning TSM empire goes belly up due to non-payment and the Maff Clique rides in on their white horse to save the day. Total chaos ensues for a week, then back to the status quo.

Youtube of the Year

The Men of TSM

Who would have thought that TSM had so many good looking men? Look out for that Richard McBeef callback (what callback?).

Worst Poster of the Year

Marvinisalunatic

Poor Marvin. I don't even dislike the guy, but he had a rough year. I bet 90% of his posts this year somehow referenced Glenn Beck, the Orioles, the Ravens or HD television. C'mon big guy, pull it together.

Post of the Year

I can't find a link, but Treble's "I wear a tie to the board" is an easy choice. Short, simple and funny. A way to stick it to the "TSM is serious business" crowd.

TSMeme of the Year

Can "boarding hard" be considered a meme? If so, that has to be it. Honorable mention to the 80% references at EHME. That one will never get old.

Thread of the Year-I Banned Choken One-While Hawk didn't deserve to be banned, it did give us an awesome meltdown from Matt Young. And you have no right.

Worst Thread Of The Year-Election 2008-I actually started this, though again, I had no idea it would turn into what it became: Marney's return (complete with racism and xenophobia!), Marvin sucking up to Glenn Beck and blantantly derailing the thread, Jerk's issues with women and "Obama will fix everything" mentality, NoCalMike's stupidity-the list goes on really.

Folder of the Year-NHB, since The Music Folder isn't too active lately.

Feud of the Year-Dandy vs. Matt Young.

Worst Poster-Oh where do I begin. I could go with Chazz, but I don't want him bitching at me. Brody's not worst material, though his gimmick (though nothing new) has run it's course. EHME has toned it down, so yeah, no worst for him. I'm going to say it's a tie between Marvin and the now Banned Deon. With Deon's banning, look at this as a lifetime achievement award so to speak. Marvin was just unbearable this year though, racheting the gimmick up, and annoying everyone. He knows he annoys people, and crosses the line between idiotic and blatant trolling.

Funniest Poster-A tie between Czech and Kinetic. KOAB can be pretty funny when he's not trying too hard.

Read these two threads. It might be a little harder to follow now due to some name changes, but they still hold up. Treble's post was in the second link, but the two threads go together.

This is what it's like...

when Matt Young cries.

I still love that EHME's name was changed to "Freddie Mercury."

You're in the bag all right.

I was actually really amused with one of Marvin's running play by play on life threads. I guess it would have been the second once since we couldn't comment on the Gulag ones. We talked about me visiting Maryland and baseball and such. Fun times.

I think that Marvin, like Matt Young, is the sort of person who probably would come across as pretty likable in real life while being really, really irritating on the internet.. I severely doubt a lot of his idiosyncrasies would shine through as much in person as they do on here- someone who's talking the political b.s. he is in person would get shut up rather fast in personal conversation as opposed to online where you can blab and link articles all you want and ignore what everyone else is saying.

I view myself as the opposite - people may be fine with me online but I've upset more than a few people by being a smart ass in real life too. It doesn't help that my core group of friends are all correct-each-other-and-argue types that make fun of everything for being stupid.

Or maybe I'm just normal.

I've upset a lot of people in real life also, but I suppose that also goes for online, so I suppose I just act the same wherever, even though that's probably not really the case.

I'm either the life of the party or an unnoticeable wallflower, IRL. There's no middle ground with me. But most people tend to like me as I'm just a laid-back... I guess to the point of sedation type of guy.

Only at TSM, Matt. You're fine everywhere else. Although I guess it's unfair to be compared to Marvin like that.
