Nighthawk Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I'm salivating at the thought. As far as Jesus, he's generally the same in all religions, he's just typically a prophet. As for the God of Christianity/Judaism/Islam, I think that's definitely a distinction: you could say YHWH, Allah and... another one, I don't know. Elohim.
Just John Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I might have to brush up on some of the lesser deities in various mythologies, but I'll play. And I don't think you can separate Yahweh, God, and Allah. All those Judeo-Christian religions just build off history. The one constant is that it's always the same god. Now, will prophets/human religious figures be allowed (i.e. Jesus, Muhammed, The Buddha)?
Burning Pirate Ship Sex Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Totally in on this. And yeah, The God of Judaism/Christianity/Islam and its various offshoots (Noahide, Samaritanism, Babism, The Bahai Faith) are one and the same according to scholars of all the religions
Nighthawk Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 But there's not really a god, so they're different. It's like saying that Kevin Costner and Cary Elwes are the same Robin Hood. Don't mind me, though, as I wouldn't have taken any of them anyway.
Burning Pirate Ship Sex Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 And Robin Hood didn't exist either
Brett Favre Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 No, there's definitely a God, and they're all the same (well there's only one). And I'm in this.
Burning Pirate Ship Sex Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I'm curious to see how long it takes before everyone's just picking incarnations of Vishnu
RepoMan Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I'm in. For the sake of the draft, I say we allow each of the monotheistic faiths to have a seperate God.
DrVenkman PhD Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Does Mick Foley count? A lot of people have called him God.
Nighthawk Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I prefer we get creative with our answers like that, yes.
Just John Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 But there's not really a god, so they're different. It's like saying that Kevin Costner and Cary Elwes are the same Robin Hood. So then, could one pick Zeus and Jupiter separately?
Just John Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Ok, just checking since it's the same thing as Yahweh/God/Allah (one deity renamed in a different language).
Twisted Intestine Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Okay, I'm thinking they should count as one. Just because I will be bored if people select them 3 times. I want some obscure gods in this! "Now, will prophets/human religious figures be allowed (i.e. Jesus, Muhammed, The Buddha)?" Yes.
Nighthawk Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Ok, just checking since it's the same thing as Yahweh/God/Allah (one deity renamed in a different language). No, it's different than that. Those three gods (and calling the Christian god "God" is a misnomer) all have very distinct personalities. What those religions share, if anything, is Abraham. But once again, I don't care. They're not on my list.
Copper Feel Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I don't intend to participate, but I still think they should be separate. They're purported to have done different things, even if they're all technically one and the same.
Twisted Intestine Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Okay let's make them seperate. We'll call them Yahweh, Allah, and Jesus' old man.
Twisted Intestine Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Come on, 2 more people needed.
Twisted Intestine Posted December 11, 2008 Author Report Posted December 11, 2008 Ok, we'll go with 8. Orders up, BPS has until 2:55AM EST It's decided that there's 3 Gods, so specify. There's 2 more spots to fill, so if anybody wants to sign up you have until the end of round 1 to do so, and I'll stick you on the bottom of the list.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I'll take Jesus' old man. I grew up with mean nuns telling me that he was the be all end all...so I'll pick the vengeful bastard.
BlackFlagg Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I'll start my list with a lil trip into the Norse with.. Odin
Just John Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Since they're separate, I'll get my big name here. (praise) Allah
Twisted Intestine Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 I've gotta take my buddy, Buddha
Twisted Intestine Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 I was actually going to pick him, but I love Buddha too much.
