JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I was wondering if anybody knew if there was a WWF tape with the Tatanka/Borga match from Superstars on it where Tatanka's streak ended and the downfall of his WWF stint began. Call me crazy, but for some reason I just want to see him get slaughtered by that big Finnish bastard. Also, when this happened, was it a surprise that Tatanka lost? Or not really? Was his popularity already starting to dwindle?
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 He was still insanely over. He was all the way to his heel turn. And he got slaugthered cause Borga was supposed to be the next WWF champ. And I love that match just cause Borga pins Tatanka with his pinky finger.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I was shoked he lost. They had played up the "undefeated streak vs. undefeated streak" with Tatanka before - against both Luger and Mr. Hughes - and neither had a decisive finish so I figured this would be the same. I wasn't a big Tatanka fan but him being pinned blew me away.

TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 I remember someone interfered in that match to give Borga the win, but can't remember who... Yoko. But like Cawthon said, I think everyone was shocked at how Tatanka was slaughtered. But I despised Tatanka so to this day that's a great wrestling memory I have. Plus the Pinky Pin is my favorite pin ever. I think this was the match that "injured" Tatanka leading him to not wrestle for Team Luger at SS. And this effectively buried him once and for all from getting a big ME or even IC push. BTW was anyone else here a Ludvig Borga mark when he was undefeated in 93? The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2003 USA vs. Foreign Legion is still one of my favorite SS matches...and I have on idea why... ...probably due to the front cover of the SS tape... with Luger, Taker, and the Steiners chowing down on a Yoko turkey. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 I was a Borga mark...why did he leave? Injury. First, he was supposed to fight Tatonto at the Rumble but was hurt at MSG a week prior ... then he was supposed to fight Quake at Mania but suffered a second injury. A shame too. This was a guy that could have headlined WrestleMania X.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted November 2, 2003 No one ran in during the match really. Borga used a chair while Fuji ditracted the referee. Yokozuna came out after the match and banzai dropped Tatanka's ribs twice before Luger fought off the Quebecers and made the save. At the time I liked both guys, but I didn't think Tatanka would lose. Like someone said, he's battled the undefeated before and never lost. WWF sacrificed him to get Borga more over, but in the long run it wasn't a factor.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 He was still insanely over. He was all the way to his heel turn. And he got slaugthered cause Borga was supposed to be the next WWF champ. OMG, is this true? Why? What were the original plans?
cbacon 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 IIRC, Borga (who beat Jannetty earlier in the night) challenged Luger after his match at SummerSlam 93. Even though Luger wasn't the champion at the time he was suppose to be involved in the WWF Title picture with Luger and Yoko. Had he not have been injured though, we probably would have seen Luger go over Borga for the title at WMX . Which would not have been good. No sir. "You call this the land of milk and honey? Well down here, it smells funny" - Borga, Superstars 1993
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 From what I heard, Taker was going to take the title from Yoko at the Royal Rumble, then Borga would defeat him shortly after that for the belt. He would headline WM 10 against Luger and drop the title to him. Of course Borga got injured, and Bret was way more over than Luger, so things ended up the way they did. Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 2, 2003 The plan was scrapped obviously before the Injury since Bret was booked to go over at rumble regardless. I'm pretty sure the idea was for a Luger/Hart/Yoko mania shortly after Series.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted November 2, 2003 Was it Rick or Scott Steiner Borga faced when he injured himself? (At least I heard it was a Steiner.)

I'm pretty sure the idea was for a Luger/Hart/Yoko mania shortly after Series. I doubt it. I think plans were changed cause of Taker's injury(don't know when that was). Nothing to do with Hart's overness. It was obvious Taker was getting the belt. Had he not gotten time off Taker would've been champ one way or another. Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2003 Humorously enough, I remember seeing Tony Halme fighting on some Ultimate Fighting style show that aired on Fox Sports in late '96-early '97. It didn't have a ring of any sort, just seemed to take place on a large amateur-wrestling-type mat, and had the appearance of being filmed in some dark warehouse/large basement. His fighting name was "The Viking", and the episode I saw him in had him fighting some Irish kickboxer, who Halme demolished. Funny when you consider the "could have been" factor

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2003 Was it Rick or Scott Steiner Borga faced when he injured himself? (At least I heard it was a Steiner.) It was Rick. They fought to a double count-out at the MSG show a week before the PPV, which also featured Owen winning a rare house show Rumble match.

''.....This filth, this pollution......'' Does anyone know the exact quote where he says that. I have the Ludvig Borga vs. Marty Janetty match at SummerSlam, and it includes the Borga promo before the match. He's standing in a slum in an alley, with trash everywhere. Here is what he says... I'm gonna show you all exactly where Lex Luger, is gonna TRY to win, the World Wrestling Federation Championship. Right here in da middle of the American dream! Well keep on dreaming Lex Luger, because if THIS is what you stand up for, if THIS is what you're proud of...this crumbling buildings, this filth, this polution, and I bet the Lex Express never stoped here on it's way...to SummerSlam. So Lex Luger, look at this! This building is crumbling...like America is crumbling, because you American high school drop outs are signing this country away welfare check by welfare check, and YOU people call this the land of opportunities!? Well I'M gonna take MY opportunity to show all you so-called American wrestlers AND Marty Janetty at SummerSlam what Ludvig Borga is all...about! ...I miss Ludvig.
