ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 Hello all you happy people. Finally back from WrestleMania in New York...and I don't care WHAT people thought of the show, I had a DAMN good time! Now, match by match observations from yours truly. And first...everyone around me was jealous of the Harlem Boys Choir...actually allowed to get in the ring. And how many of them are even really wrestling fans anyway? - Cena was DAMN over...maybe just because he had the first match, but still. When Big Show was doing his slow, methodical wrestling...a fun "YOU'RE NOT ANDRE" chant broke out from where I was. I personally liked how they actually had Big Show "Toughen Up" from the first F-U...and the chain/knucks spot was classic. - Well, to those who were wondering how the GMs would make the show...there you go. Bischoff's first WrestleMania, ladies and gents! - It's lucky that Orton had Flair near him...cause that's the majority of the reaction he got...the WHOOS for Flair. There were some boos around where I was for Orton though (TAKE THAT, SAULT! ) - Well, guess WWE didn't want to make TRUE Fatal Four Ways with Tag Teams, huh? At least were I was sitting, the Dudleyz were more over than the combination of Booker T and RVD...except for the fact the entire arena pretty much did "Sing Along With RVD's Name" when he came out...and after he and the Book won. By the way...has Booker been banned from doing the Spinaroonie anymore or something? That pissed me off. - Glad to see Mean Gene and Heenan made the show. NOT glad to see Mae Young though...even if it was a fun interlude segment. - Jericho got a good face reaction from the crowd. Though a lot of us were wondering what was up with Christian's tights tonight. Nice to see Christian bust out a few new moves...and I marked big time for him using the Texas Cloverleaf. Oh...and Slutty, evil Trish >>>>>> Face Trish ANYDAY IMO. - HURRICANE AND ROSEY MADE MANIA...sorta. To coin a term, the crowd was ELECTRIC for the Rock and Sock Connection...despite opinions of them here. - OK...I may get some flak for this...but I really liked the Handicap match. It wasn't the greatest wrestling classic, of course...but seeing Rock and Flair mix it up...as well as Foley beating up his old boss was cool too. Yes...most of the enjoyable parts of the match, at least to me...were when Flair was in the ring. Though...Orton's Mania RKO I think was his best yet. - Besides some people being upset that Kane didn't come out to attack Pete Rose, we all had fun with the Hall of Fame ceremony thing that they did. The only one that got a negative reaction was, of course, Pete Rose. By the way...Jesse's beard...I don't what's weirder...him with that beard, or no facial hair at all. - The one thing I'll say about the "Evening Gown Match"...best line of the night from the crowd...."WASTE OF TIME!" - Nice to see that they sorta remember Eddie and Benoit's friendship for the show. Of course, they DID fail to mention when Benoit and Eddie were on opposite teams against each other back in late 2002 for the WWE Tag Titles...but hey, beggers can't be choosers in that situation. Oh, and thankfully, Benoit FINALLY got his own shirt again. - Cruiserweight open was too short, but fun while it lasted. I do feel sorry for Ultimo though...on the biggest stage of them all...he trips while making his entrance. What is he, Goldberg now? - Hoo boy...speaking of Goldberg...here we go. If you thought the negative chants to Goldberg and Lesnar were loud on TV...you NEED to have been their live. It's like we were watching Hitler and Satan in the ring there. "You Sold Out", "Goldberg Sucks", "Boring"...the match had all of that and more. Hell, a fight in the balcony between someone dressed as Hulk Hogan and another dressed like Randy Savage got more attention than the match in the ring. That should tell Vince something right there, next time he wants to have a match. Let's just hope it doesn't tell him to actually book Hogan/Savage for Mania 21. Oh...and the best sign of the night IMO: picture of Brock Lesnar wearing a Tu Tu...and just the word QUITTER under it. That, plus the "Nah Nah Nah Nah" song made that match more enjoyable than it should have been. - Well, West Coasters...you got your WrestleMania next year. Be Happy. A lot of the fans at the arena booed that. - FYI...the reason that they had Vince come out and do the "Thank You" to the fans? They were replacing the ring apron that was soaked with Austin's beer. That's the ONLY reason that they did it, if you ask me. - Why is it that at both Smackdown and WrestleMania...I get a view where I have to look at Rikishi's ass!? Also...why TWO "sudden death" fatal four ways? That's just overkill...at least they should have had ONE be elimination. Then again, they also should have had the World's Greatest Tag Team win...and we saw how THAT turned out. - Jesse doing an interview was fun. Pointless, but fun. - ...Poor Molly. Poor, poor Molly. And I'm not alone in that boat either, a good portion of the people around me were calling "Bullshit" on Victoria's win...as they were all Molly fans too. Still...here's hoping that they give her compensation for what they had her do there. - Angle and Eddie had one of the contenders for Match of the Night, in my honest opinion. That's what a WWE Championship match should be about...well, maybe save for the ending. Interesting chants going on in this match (one I could be wrong about...might have been last match)...the Australlian's doing their "Aussie Aussie Aussie" thing...then the "LET'S GO ANGLE...ANGLE SUCKS!" chant. The second of which TOTALLY threw me off the wall...as it was so...confusing. Oh, and nice to see Eddie do a more...well...legal form of cheating tonight. - Again, you may not agree...but the Taker/Kane match was mark-out city for me. Even before Undertaker came out, I marked for how the city setting on the screens on the entryway were on fire during Kane's entrance...marked BIG time for Paul Bearer...laughed a bit when the technicians had to keep using a fire extinguisher on the flames the druids were carrying...and went 1994 Mark Out Mode when Taker came out. I kinda like the new look...but he REALLY needs to grow the hair out more if he can. Otherwise, VERY fun there. - Last but not least, the BIGGEST mark out of the night: The ascencion of the Crippler to Immortality. I'd say the crowd was 15% Michaels, 5% HHH, and the rest was ALL Benoit. Though, there was a point in the match where an HBK chant DID break out. Still though, we all were BEGGING and PLEADING for Benoit to win. I lost my voice yelling "TAP OUT, YOU BITCH!" at HHH when Benoit got the crossface on HHH. The chant you heard near the end was, if you hadn't guessed..."Tap! Tap! Tap!" And it felt EUPHORIC in there when Benoit won the gold. Hell, I was hugging guys I just met that night in cellebration for some odd reason, because I was so happy. That was the best way to finish Mania XX, if you ask me. Especially since I got to keep the confetti that shot out. All in all, that was one of the most fun shows I've been to...even more fun than the Royal Rumble was. Order the replay, buy the DVD...this show is a keeper! And to the cinics who said it wouldn't happen...HAH! BENOIT MADE HHH TAP LIKE THE BITCH HE IS! ...sorry, had to say that. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 Thank you for not sparing Goldberg from the big stink-eye. I hope to read of his departure on WWE.com soon. - Well, West Coasters...you got your WrestleMania next year. Be Happy. A lot of the fans at the arena booed that. Funny. A lot of people in Seattle were all awe'd and exclaiming "I knew it!" when the WMXX promo first aired. FYI...the reason that they had Vince come out and do the "Thank You" to the fans? They were replacing the ring apron that was soaked with Austin's beer. That's the ONLY reason that they did it, if you ask me. Ah. Good. I was concerned that Eddie was going to have his face smashed down into Austin's beer-soaked apron. It was bad enough with Scott Hall.

So awesome that Ultimo went arse over head for it. UYI I'm surprised the crowd didn't chant negative things at him. Then realized the crowd was probably 90% smarks, so since hes an awesome wrestler, he's forgiven. Still looked more like he slipped than tripped.

Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted March 15, 2004 I don't want to start another Live Report thread, so here ya go. I got into Penn Station at 5:30, we weren't able to get in/sit down until 6:30. The line of people was about four blocks long and wrapped around 7th Avenue. The US Title match was probably the best choice as an opener. The crowd loved everything Cena did and were more or less cheering him on throughout the entire bout, rather than deflating when Show was on the offense. Cena looked legitimately proud to have won the Title, which is always a plus in my book. No one really gave a shit about the Raw Tag match except for a few Dudley Boyz pops. Almost had a fight breakout in my section between American and Canadian fans. Heenan is God, even if he fucks old ladies. Jericho was over, but for the most part the match itself wasn't. Surprisingly, Jericho and Christian got away with that one botched move in the sense that it wasn't made that big of a deal by those at the Garden. I called the Trish turn, as it wouldn't be WWE if the face got the girl in the end. It will be interesting seeing them push Trish as a heel though. The 2 on 3 was the first match of the night where the MSG crowd strayed from the general public opinion. Basically Foley was the most over, followed by Flair, and then the Rock. Orton even managed to get cheered at some points, probably due to his association with Flair. Anyway, this made for quite the predictament as we couldn't stop rooting for Flair, which ultimately led to the Rock getting turned on during his first match back in about a year. I almost died when Flair went for the People's Elbow. Without a doubt one of the greatest WrestleMania Moments ever. Finally, Foley is one of the few people that can lose a match and get just as a big a pop as if he won. The Hall of Fame stuff was a nice touch. I'm still not entirely sure what the point of the Playboy match was, or what led up to the finish. Based on post match reactions, it seemed like Miss Jackie threw the match for her team. The Cruiserweight Open was a complete waste of time. Would have been better if there was a surprise participant. I imagine Ultimo Dragon will be leaving the company now since he got his wish to perform at WrestleMania in MSG, albeit for all of two minutes. Lesnar-Goldberg was by and large one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was afraid Goldberg was over based on his entrance, yet as soon as the match started the crowd turned on him and literally shat on Lesnar. However, it seemed like the match was intentionally laid out poorly in the hopes of receiving such a reaction. The HOGAN chants were directed at a guy dressed like him. There was also a midget doing Hogan poses in the crowd. Funny how even Austin couldn't rub some of his heat onto Goldberg. Good riddance to Goldberg. Good riddance to Lesnar. WrestleMania XX truly is just the beginning. McMahon's little spiel probably had something to do with the last match, but you can never know with him. While on the topic of Vince McMahon, how fucking scary was that picture of him, Shane, and Shane's son to kick off the show. They made it seem like that baby was the devil himself. Completely missed the SmackDown Tag Title match, as I was in the bathroom. Seemed like that was where most of the crowd was hanging out. The crowd LOVED "Ventura in 2008". I just couldn't believe that Molly was actually shaved bald. I figured it would be more like when Nash lost his hair. Angle-Guerrero was a great bout. Angle has a decent amount of crowd support, but when it came right down to it they were behind Eddie. The match was pretty much what I expected and the finish was something new, although I would have prefered to see Eddie go over in a more clean fashion at WrestleMania. More than likely with Lesnar leaving, they just had to keep Angle strong this way they could milk a few more matches out of this feud. It was nice seeing Paul Bearer again, as well as the Undertaker's entrance. The match was the same that we have seen hundreds of times. At least they kept it much shorter than the one six years ago. Benoit becoming World Champion was without a doubt the greatest thing I have ever seen at a wrestling event. My friend who barely even watches or cares anymore completely agreed. The crowd was into Benoit 110%, which was evident when they cheered him on while unconscious duing what was supposed to be HHH and HBK's big showdown. Tremendous match. Quite possibly the best WrestleMania main event of the modern era. Afterwards, Nancy and their kids came out to celebrate. Seeing Benoit and Eddie with the belts at the end of the show was truly a surreal moment that I NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS expected to see close out the most hyped event in the history of WWE. Guest nikowwf Report post Posted March 15, 2004 The show was much too long, don't you think? (for those of you that were there) At times, i was waiting for things to occur, and even though you want to be crazy yelling all the time, its tough when the damn show is 5 hours. BTW, did anyone else their notice all the tourists? There was a big group of british tourists, and there was a large group of japanese GIRLS. (all girls, but they didn't sit together. I saw them all together, but then they split up. Two were in our section going nuts.) YOUNG FEMALE JAPANESE WRESTLING FANS. Ahh..life is good... All together it was a fun evening, turned into a MAGIC evening by benoit winning the title. Unfucking real.... niko

Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 He probably slipped on his cape. I'm glad Ultimo wasn't the first one eliminated. Well, it's almost like a Toryumon continuity dealie. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 Ultimo slipped on that big glass floor they had on the entrance, not his cape. And the fact the two guys fighting were dressed as Savage and Hogan is classic.
NYU 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 Well, most of the observations of the MSG crowd were made here, so there isn't much for me to add. When I was leaving, I walked around the Garden to the side entrance, and there was a whole entourage of wrestlers coming out of the side entrance with their luggage and climbing onto around three different buses parked nearby. People started going crazy. The biggest star to be leaving at that point and getting onto the bus was Mick Foley. Other people I saw coming down the stairs and walking to their bus were Christian, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Chavo Guerrero Sr, Rikishi, Rosey, Faarooq (who did the Nation of Domination pose for the crowd), Batista (who had on a DAMN NICE suit), and Matt Morgan. People started walking over to the bus and inside, you could clearly see Torrie Wilson sitting behind the driver, Stacy Keibler, Test, John Cena, Billy Gunn, Lillian Garcia, and the other wrestlers I mentioned. Chavo started playing for the crowd who were getting pretty loud until security came over and forced the crowd to move back and allow the buses to leave. Still, it actually was pretty fun to see a whole bunch of wrestlers outside the arena right before leaving. The show wasn't AWESOME. But I found it to be pretty good although, admittedly, my opinion may be biased since I was there. One note.....the crowd seemed to be a LOT LOUDER there than they were on television. I don't think they were mic-ed very well.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted March 15, 2004 It was good to see that the crowd was not dead for the main event, like the past two Wrestlemanias. Yet, this Mania was longer. I feel bad for Ultimo. He came to the WWE for his dream to perform at MSG for Wrestlemania 20, and he slips....twice! His one chance to shine...yet he blows it. That intro video was AWESOME! It was great to see Vince in a dark room and the narrator saying,"20 years ago, this man had a dream," or something along those lines. Ric Flair saying," Not so fast, mother fucker!"=Funniest Wrestlemania moment ever! Stone Cold got hit with a beer can, in the face! "He's Hardcore! He's Hardcore!" I feel bad for Pete Rose getting booed. Even though he didn't play for the Yankees or the Mets(Who are the Mets?), he should've been given more respect. My question is, to those who were there....Was Donald Trump actually there the entire show? Another....Were you guys cheering that fight between the fans, when Goldberg did a bunch of power moves? And...were those two fans just goofing around?
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2004 Well, Ultimo hit his spots properly, at least. He still looked better in there after the slips than Noble did.
