There's some Japanese ref (I think for NOAH), who when bringing his hand down for 3 on a near-fall transitions it into a combat roll finishing with the signal to the timekeeper. First time I've ever slo-mo replayed a ref, awesome.

Best ECW of the year. Maybe due to the fact that Kevin Thorne was nowhere to be seen, while Balls, Stevie and Guido were all there.

What would it take to make you interested in the WWE again

The good thing is, if you know where to get it, there are alternatives. I've only been watching ROH for a few months, but I'm turning into a big fan due to the style of matches and the decent booking. And I'm finding a wealth of stuff from Japan like Dragon Gate, NOAH, Zero-One etc. Hell, the past few months when I've been skipping through ECW, I've used the extra time to watch All Japan classics from Kawada, Misawa and Kobashi. I haven't even glanced at the lucha libre scene yet, even though I've heard it's in a pretty awesome state at the moment. -
I didn't watch most of the PPV events from 2006, but his matches at WM22, Unforgiven and RR2007 were all good. Let's face it, you have blind Cena hate. You refuse to accept anything with Cena in it can be good, and I don't know why. Maybe just to follow the internet crowd and feel cool or something.
-
Wait, let me get this for confirmation. You DID NOT like Umaga vs. Cena? You DID NOT like that finish?
-
The recent Cena hate may be because he hasn't had a 1-on-1 PPV match with anyone of even average quality in months: Vengence: 5-way ONS: Khali JD: Khali Backlash: 4-way You have to go as far back as Wrestlemania before you get to the good stuff. If Cena had faced anyone with a shred of talent (Orton, Umaga, Flair) in those months, an example of how good he can be would be fresh in people's minds. I don't think he's the best worker in the WWE by far, but he CAN work, and he CAN put on a main-event match that I want to see. It's just that they haven't given him the oppurtunity to recently.

Have you seen Royal Rumble 2007?
-
Neither did WM 23 When you go into a match thinking it's going to be completely shit and stink up the whole place, and have that match completely change your mind and make you look at both wrestlers in a completely different light, then it's a great match. Plus I marked out for Jeff's ladder dive (As in legitimately marked out, I'd really thought Edge had broke his back), and it had a main event which while not being the best ever did live up to it's place on the bill. I'd call that a good Wrestlemania.

Letting guys come up with their own promos again. Sure give them a gimmick, but let the wrestler work within that gimmick and think of things himself. -
He had stepped up his game when working with Taker, but then lost in again when working with Edge. Sure he was better than he was in 2006, but his match at JD was poor, and his matches at ONS and Vengence were average. Batista is one of the more inconsistent guys out there.

Godamn, I was actually thinking for a second there that they have been putting all this momentum behind Matt to lead to Edge vs. Matt at Summerslam. Now that's obviously not going to happen, not because of Edge's feud with Kane, but because of Matt's feud with MVP. If Matt wins at GAB there will probably be a rematch at Summerslam, and if he loses it will kill his momentum and he won't look credible as a challenger for the World Title.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

There is no way in hell Lashley could be a good heel. He's too bulky to ever portray a cowardly heel, and he doesn't have the angry intensity to work as a monster heel. And either way he doesn't have the mic skills, which are much more important for heels. -
This was the first ECW in ages where I couldn't be bothered to watch til the end. They could easily have put in a Burke & Cor Von vs. Balls & Richards match to build up to the obvious split up of their alliance, instead of replaying a fairly average PPV match.
-
Yeah but Heyman booked that, not Steph.
-
Shut up. You're destroying my dream that one day Samoa Joe will come up north and just kill HHH in about half a minute.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007
mysterious_w replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
I've heard plenty of references to the "Smackdown Six", which I believe was Edge, Angle, Benoit, Mysterio, Chavo and Eddie. I was a very casual viewer around that time, so were these 6 called that because they were a core group of high-level wrestlers have big matches with each other on SD? Anything more anyone can tell me? Building on from that, can 2007 be the start the the "ECW Four" of Burke, Cor Von, Punk and Nitro? -
No, making him chase the belt will make him stronger, not giving it to him now. Put the belt on him at Wrestlemania 24 (Take your pick of oppopnents: Cor Von, Burke, Nitro), and he'll be ready for one of the big two by WM 25. Huh? Never heard about this, what happened?

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

Near the end of Rey Mysterio's run before being sidelined, he modified his finisher from a springboard hurricanrana to a springboard BUTT splash thing. Was that because Rey was so knackered he could do the full move anymore, or because the big heavyweights couldn't do the bump right? -
He said at some NOAH meeting that he won't be returning til this Winter at the earliest. Misawa better not plan on keeping the belt til then, or NOAH may go completely down the plan. What I think would be best would be to defend against Taue, drop to Takayama, then have Takayama defend against Saito and maybe McGuiness til Kobashi can come back and LARIIIIIATOOOOOOO him.
-
I prefer the ECW arena crowds. They picked up on absolutely everything, and were much more vicious. ROH crowds chanting smarky shit like "5 star match" and "Match of the year" pisses me off.
-
"boring" chants are, well, boring. It is much more entertaining when fans chant "This shit sucks" or something relating to fellatio.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released

I'm not so delusional that I don't believe Benoit did it, but I'm still finding it hard to think that he killed his own son with the Crippler Crossface. Is there no other possible choke positions where there could be pressure on the victim's arm and using your arms to choke the victim (As I guess throttling with the hands was ruled out due to lack of bruising on the neck)? -
Misawa is old, broken down, and unmotivated as champion, so you'll want to avoid any cards with him as champ. The 29-Oct-06 undercard looks pretty weak, but the main event is one of my favourite matches ever. (Kenta vs Marufuji for the GHC belt). Other than that, I don't know of any spectacular full cards.
-
Cena only entertains me only when he's getting booed. He loses the belt now and I'll become completely disinterested in him. If he keeps the belt for a few more months to the point where the crowd had completely turned on him in every arena, then it'll be fun to watch.
