I remember loving Taker/Shamrock from Backlash 99. The crowd was completely dead for it, and most people online at the time thought it was boring, but I really got a kick outta seeing Shamrock absolutely break Taker down with all those submissions. The chokeslam counter into the armbar was hot as hell. For underrated shows...I have heard next to nothing about No Mercy 04 and aside from the ME and the angle with Heidenreich at the end, I love this show. I thought Kidman vs London was great (really could have made both guys' careers if they'd played it right), and a really fun six person tag with Rico/Hass/Jackie vs the Dudleys/Dawn Marie (Rico rubbing himself while waiting for the "Wassup?!" was probably my spot of the year. Funny as hell). Angle/Show and the Cruiserweight title matches were enjoyable to. One of the few WWE shows I can honestly say that I truly love.

At WWE.com they posted a video of PE beating Harlem Heat for the tag belts in WCW. Nice gesture I guess, but it's kinda hollow considering how much of an afterthought they were made out to be by the announcers. They were more interested in the nWo than just about anything going on in the match. Anyway, PE were my favorites when I first got into ECW back in the day, and it's sad to see that both of them are gone.

I remember the Raw 10 year anniversary special where they actually blurred out Victoria's face to keep people from recognizing her in the Eddie scene.

While I don't remember the shattered promises quote, I do remember the interview you're talking about, and it was actually what I had in mind when I said the build up was centered around Diana.

I saw the IYH match before I saw Summerslam (and watched it live at that), so that may influence my preference some, but I always preferred their second match. Plus the match features some of my all-time favorite spots, which is always a plus. On the IYH build, one of the major building points going into the second match was the fact that Diana was firmly in her husband's corner the second time around.

What type of wrestling fans annoy you?
Papacita replied to milliondollarchamp's topic in General Wrestling
The "What" chants used to kill me. I swear I almost got in a fight at the last WWF show I went to they were pissing me off so bad. I also hate people who think "smark" first, fan second. For example, someone who'll look at the HBK/Bret Hart feud circa 97 and say it sucked because both guys were heel. "Oh but the fans won't know who to cheer or boo!" Shut the fuck up! -
Just out of curiosity, has anyone here actually watched a PPV live, then *PAID* to watch the replay? I ask because I was thinking about how WWF/E used to advertise their PPV replays (and possibly still do...I haven't cared enough to pay attention): Order it if you missed it, or if you'd like to "re-live the magic." I always thought it took some fucking nerve to suggest that someone pay for the same show twice.

As a writer, no.

Is that really their fault though? I'd think the blame for that one would lie more with Thea for not letting them know ahead of time.

*googles Todd Bertuzzi* ...I agree. Yeah, the death was classified as an accident so no criminal charges were filed against him. It was hinted that Uncle Kev had something to do with it, but by that time I was getting tired of the storyline and never really got into it.

I haven't watched Raw in a couple of weeks. Did that really happen?

Will WWE ever be as great as they were in 2000?
Papacita replied to AmazingRen's topic in The WWE Folder
I think a lot of the stuff that made 02 so bad were there in 01 (lack of elevation, bad writing, overly scripted promos, nonsensical turns/feuds, etc). What was cool about Austin in 01 was that he'd be involved in a lot of stuff that you'd think was bad from a booking/writing standpoint, but he was just so great a performer that you just couldn't help but enjoy it. If HHH et al were even half as entertaining in 02 as Austin was in 01, I don't think people would've complained as much. -

Nah, Austin didn't do a whole lot to put people over in 01 (remember Tazz?), but he really was an entertaining character. I agree that he wasn't at 96-98 levels, but still he was pretty damn fun to watch in his skits with Angle, Tajiri, etc. It showed how versatile he was as a performer, and really he basically carried WWF during the Invasion era. His performances were among some of the few bright spots from that period, IMO. -
I've heard this before, but still that's pretty remarkable. I can't imagine being in sound enough mind to even think of doing something like that in the same situation.

Will WWE ever be as great as they were in 2000?
Papacita replied to AmazingRen's topic in The WWE Folder
Entertainment-wise, 98/early 99 was great. The wrestling wasn't the best, but the shows were so enjoyable as a whole that it really didn't matter. On a somewhat unrelated topic, am I the only one that's just plain sick of the basic face/heel dynamic in WWE? I think that aspect of their shows turns me off more than anything else. It's gotten even worse in the last couple of years, because it seems like now more than ever they're booking wrestlers based on their roles as a face or a heel rather than their character in general (for example, Carlito will cheat to win not because of his character, but because he's bad and that's what bad people do. Or a face wins the World belt and suddenly the other faces just aren't that interested in it anymore). Now I know that they can't completely scrap the face/heel thing, because it'll always be there in some form, but I just they'd get rid of as much of it as possible and get back to using characters as the base of their booking. -
There's been a second set, I don't think we need a third already. Has there? Since the "From the Vault" release? I'm really not a DVD person, but I'm definitely getting the Pillman disc when it comes out. And maybe the AWA...I dunno.

Yeah, JBL's not the best choice for that scenario. HBK or even Austin would've worked better.

My dad put me onto jelly on bologna [edit: that meat that I've completely forgotten how to spell for some reason...lol] and/or egg sandwiches when I was little. Sounds nasty, but it's really good.

A little while ago I was reading the Introduction to the OAOAST write up that Tony did a while back, and while going through the history section that deals with how it all began and I got to thinking to myself that 1)I have been posting at this damn message board for WAY too long ...and 2) it's amazing how far along this fed has come since the beginning. I mean, I wasn't involved in the original One & Only Anglesault thread, but I was around for all the events that surrounded it's creation, and it's kinda crazy to think that all led to what we've got today. Now, if you haven't figured it out by now, I way too much time on my hands today, and considering that it's the end of the year anyway, I figured that a good way to kill some time and/or fulfill my independent thought quota for 2005 would be to start this thread. So basically--to cut through all the bullshit--what do you see for the OAOAST in 2006 and beyond? Website? Merchandise? Strippers? Weekly AIM chats (which you promised me when I signed up, Malibu! WHERE'S MY WEEKLY AIM CHATS, DAMN IT?!?!?)? Well...

Saying it's one of the worst matches of all time is a stretch. I always thought it was pretty good and fairly well laid out. Unless we're counting historical significance though, I wouldn't place this above Warrior/Savage, but like he said it's all a matter of opinion anyway, so it's all good.

Hat Guy used to be at all the Philly-area shows back in the day. In addition to ECW, I remember seeing him at Slamboree 94, KOTR 95, Mind Games, SummerSlam 97 and a few Raws and house shows. He tended to get front row seats for these shows too...right up until the boom anyway.

The #1 Championship RAW - Edge v. Cena Smackdown! - Kurt Angle v. Mark Henry (w/ Daivari) Well...in the 2-3 weeks I've actually been paying attention to WWE, I've actually enjoyed both World Title programs. Smackdown's is probably the better program from a booking standpoint, but based on pure entertainment I've enjoyed Raw a little more, if only due to the fact that I've always liked Edge and I'm happy he's got the belt, even if it is a lame duck reign. The #2 Championship RAW - Ric Flair v. ???? Smackdown! - Booker/Orton v. Benoit In the 2-3 weeks that I've been paying attention, I *DID NOT* realize that Flair still had the I-C Belt. What does that say for you? Smackdown gets the nod here. The Tag Titles RAW - Show/Kane v. Heartthrobs? Snitsky/Tomko? Viscera/Val? 3 Minute Warning? Smackdown! - MNM v. Mexicools? Kendrick/London? Dicks? Gymini? Regal/Burchill? Raw's tag division is non-existant, while I like a lot of the teams on Smackdown. No contest. The "Other" Title RAW - Trish Stratus v. Victoria? Mickie James? Smackdown! - Kid Kash v. London? Kendrick? Jamie Noble? Nunzio? Well, I'm a mark for Trish, and her program with Mickie seems to be one of the more interesting things going on right now. Raw gets this one. The Midcard RAW - Carlito/Masters/Show/Kane/Shelton/RVD/Flair Smackdown! - Orton/Benoit/Booker/JBL/Rey/Kennedy/Lashley Smackdown's midcard seems to be better utilized. The GM RAW - Vince? Smackdown! - Teddy Long I really don't care about this one. Smackdown actually has a GM, so them I guess. The Top Backstage Guys RAW - HHH/HBK/Vince Smackdown! - Undertaker/Kurt Angle/JBL Again, really don't care. The Internet Show/Jobbers RAW - Heart Throbs/Snitsky/Tomko/Viscera/Val/Gregory Helms/Rosey/Murdoch/Cade/Dupree/Conway Smackdown! - Kendrick/London/Jamie Noble/Burchill/Regal/Holly/Hardy/Orlando/Nunzio/Vito/Sylvan Smackdown easily. The Women RAW - Trish Stratus/Mickie James/Victoria/Candice/Torrie/Ashley/Maria Smackdown! - Stacy/Sharmell/Melina/Jillian Raw. The Announce Team RAW - Styles/Lawler/Coach/Maria/Todd Smackdown! - Cole/Tazz/Matthews/Funaki I keep forgetting that Raw has Styles now. It's still kinda jarring to hear him on Raw. That said, Smackdown wins this round. Wrestlecrap RAW - Spirit Squad, Vince's Devils, Mama Benjamin Smackdown! - Boogeyman, Jillian Hall's face, Midgets I actually liked the Spirit Squad last night. Aside from their association with Vince, I really like Vince Devils (Candice has really grown on me) and Shelton's mom rides the fence between irritating and pretty fucking funny (her skit with Vince last week had me dying). Boogeyman et al haven't done anything for me on Smackdown. The Time Slot RAW - Monday nights at 9pm on USA Smackdown! - Friday nights at 8pm on UPN Raw's got this one. 5-6, Smackdown.
