Ha, Al in the 2004 MLB thread on April 5th.
You have to consider the Blue Jays ranked second last year in runs scored, and they didn't lose a single player in their starting lineup. They have six guys who are still heading towards their prime. On top of that, they solidifyed their rotation. I don't think the Orioles are bad, its just that the Blue Jays are that good.Blue Jays record that year, 67-94, finishing in last place. Good year.

I think that was Weaver, too.

Ha, Billy Koch. Is it me, or are there more relievers than usual on there?
The 2002 AL Cy Young voting pissed me off since Roy Halladay didn't even get a throwaway 3rd place vote. Fuck, Jarrod Washburn got one.

I remember when Chris Michalak was on the Jays (I think it was 2000 or 2001). He had this really good pick-off move and it seemed like every start he would pick-off at least one guy, then all of a sudden, the umpires started calling it a balk and that was pretty much the end of him.

That's reigning Cy Young Award winner Pat Hentgen.

I wonder if the person who recently shot and killed Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams will have a full clip by next year?Is it just me, or is it cold in here?

I stick mine in the freezer and just toast it.
On this subject, just a few hours ago, my roommate decided he wanted some toast with his dinner. I was in the living room watching TV and he was getting stuff ready and said he was going to have a shower before he ate. I went into the kitchen a minute or so later and he had taken the bag, and rather than just open it like a normal, sane person would, had just ripped the bag open in the middle and left it on the counter.
What the fuck is your thought process during this, is it too fucking hard to open a bag of bread normally?

I only got an Atari (this version) because I wanted an NES (my friend across the street had one), but my parents probably didn't want to drop too much money on something I might not like, which was probably a good idea. It was always stuck down in the basement on my mom's old b&w TV, so whenever I got to bring it upstairs to the living room and play it in colour, it was a big deal. I think it came with Pole Position, and some other games I remember getting were Q-Bert (which was a bit harder to play when the squares were grey), Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man, Boxing, Crossbow, and Vanguard.

We listened to the verdict on the radio in my grade 7 class. I guess you're old.

I've been to Squamish before. They've got that big rock that looks like a face. And a Tim Horton's.

I wonder about Roy Halladay every once in a while. I think getting hurt the past 2 seasons could eventually hurt his chances, especially since breaking his leg last year might have cost him a 2nd Cy Young award if he had kept pitching as well as he had in the first half of the season.
Throwing out '04, he's been one of the best pitchers in the league since 2002 (his '02 numbers are probably nicer than his '03 season, too, minues the walks), dominant for stretches, plus he's 'old school' and throws a lot of complete games for this era, so some voters might like that.
I know it's hard to tell this early, but it's something I spend some time thinking about.
I apologize if this is rambling, but I just got home from work and really need to go to sleep.

I want to say that's part of some set of cards that they released with Expos and Jays players on it like 12 or 13 years ago. I remember getting some when I went to a pre-season game between them in Montreal when I was younger, but I don't remember what they look like, though I'm pretty sure they were drawings of the players like that one. The cards are probably stuffed in my closet somewhere, so it'd be tough to find them.

In Triple Play '99, I had Rey Ordonez as my shortstop and had him hitting over .400 into August before I got bored of the game and stopped playing. It never worked when I tried to move him up in the order, though, he only played well when he was hitting 7th or 8th.

I don't really have too many memories of Steib, as I wasn't born yet or was in diapers during his prime here. I mainly remember his comeback in the late '90s and catching Bobby Higginson's home run ball in the bullpen with 2 outs in the 9th inning of Roy Halladay's no hit bid in his 2nd career start.

How can you like Mike but not kkk?

Most of this is just a product of where they play. Everyone on the overrated list (aside from Burnett and Kendall) play in NY, LA, or Chicago. But yeah, a lot of this is probably just jealousy of big contracts by people who figure they're worth more.

Jose Oquendo was my favourite player for about 5 minutes when I was younger, because of the segment on him playing all those positions on the Super Dooper Baseball Bloopers tape. Also, Oquendo sounded like Canseco and I wanted to be different from everyone else.
Probably why Ed Olcyzk was my favourite hockey player when I was little, too.

Some girl got hit by a train here about a year ago, so now they have crossing guards at all the train crossings near the school she went to. They even have the stop signs, it's the lamest thing I've ever seen.

Well, it won't be the Leafs.
-
In fairness, they probably did leave Halladay in there too long. I think they wanted to give him a chance to win the game, so they left him in there while it was still tied, hoping he could get out of it. If he hadn't given up that homer in the 7th and still had the lead, he probably would have been out of there after he started putting guys on base.

Hey, I was right.

Carlos Delgado should have won the MVP that year.

The Pirates had a game on Fox in '07 against the Giants, when everyone was showing as many Giants games as possible, trying to get Bonds milestone homers.
I'm pretty sure the Jays have never been on Fox and all their TBS games this year were against Boston.
