Review: WCW/nWo Starrcade 1998, from Washington, DC, 12/27/1998.
Smues commented on a blog entry in LFC Blog
Oh man that fucking show. It still amazes me how WCW went into the toilet so quick in 1998. I completely understand the meltdown in 1999 and 2000, but in 1998 they still had so much potential. An absolutely loaded roster of talent, wrestlers the fans CARED about, Goldberg's streak, I just can't believe they pissed it away so fucking quickly. Russo fucked up more than humanly possible when his turn came, but god was giving Kevin Nash the book a BAD move. I remember discussing Starcade 98 at a highschool Christmas party with a LOT of people. A year later and I couldn't find a WCW fan if I tried. Despite the fact that it shouldn't have been on the card, there was a lot of anticipation for Goldberg/Nash. I seem to recall more heat being on Bam Bam vs Goldberg, but with the book in Kevin's hand that wasn't going to happen. ANY ending would have been better than Scott Hall using the Mountie's shockstick. Nash going over clean is better than that crap, and that's ignoring the finger poke of doom that followed. While the cracks were showing before hand, Starcade 98 + the finger poke of doom Nitro (complete with "yeah, that'll put asses in seats") were what really signalled to the world that WCW was failing and not worth your time or money. I still believe that a good Starcade had been a good show and the fingerpoke never happened things would have been a lot different. Of course just not giving Nash booking power probably would have helped a whole hell of a lot. Before ending Goldberg's streak I remember he squashed Wrath pretty quickly and cleanly, after they had been building him up as a beast similar to Goldberg. Thanks Kevin, glad to see you care about the business. -
Of course I think he's a playoff god soley for hitting that homerun in game 6 of the 95 world series. Which in itself was hilarious because he got booed when he came out and then he won the series. I vaguely remember him being a beast in that 2000 ALCS against the Mariners, and being the complete opposite the next year, where I was wanting them to keep him in the lineup against the D-backs because he was an instant out. As for the Halle Berry thing, didn't he also beat her? Violence against women is usually a bad thing, but its Halle Berry so I think it's worth some extra points.

That is just so awesome that the guy tracked her down. The real fun will be when she contests her "leaving the scene of an accident" charge in court. -

That sucks they got hit, but that is the most AWESOME THING I HAVE EVER HEARD about the other motorist chasing her down. You need to buy that guy/girl dinner. -

I'm in the don't do all nighters group. Twice in my five years of college was I ever even up late for something related to school. How late? 1am when I was in the dorms at UW trying to figure out my fucking computer science homework. And that was less procrastination and more the professor just simply did not give us the tools/knowledge required to complete the assignment. The other I was up until 1 or 2 at home working on some paper at EWU, but A. it wasn't due the next day or anything and B. I'm not even sure I'd count it being up late for homework, because my earliest class the next day was 6pm, so I got a full nights sleep and then some afterwards. And I as well got a lot of enjoyment out of watching other people talk about pulling all nighters and then bitch about their grades. I planned my courses as such that my very last quarter I was taking freshmen level general requirement classes to give myself an easy last quarter. In retrospect is was stupid as I should have taken the last of my accounting classes then and been ready for the CPA exam, but it was still worth it to watch the true freshmen struggle through the easy stuff. -
Congratulations on the kid. Was the news a happy occurance in the KKK household?

Over the rope resulting in a DQ was so retarded. I'm glad that rule isn't around these days.

The news guy on the oldies station I listen to just read the rhino story, and had a heck of a time trying to get through it. He'd pause for awhile everytime before he had to talk about the shit. Rhino..............poop the.................droppings they were.......................dropped from four different rhinos etc. etc. etc.

The rockies winning a do-or-die game with a crazy last inning against the Padres. Sounds familier.

I burst into laughter as I read that, and then as I stopped laughing I realized an anti-drug PSA was playing on the television at the time, causing me to laugh even harder.

Go Braves! I'd be optismistic, but the Braves got to the final 4 in your all time tourny too and then finished in 4th.

I know he's fairly hated on this board, but I tend to agree with Scott Keith's star ratings the majority of the time, including the negatives. Other than giving negatives too often to matches with giant stiffs that just have no talent to start with, most of the time I think he's spot on. (The exception to that is Giant Gonzalez matches, he can eat every negative star he's earned and like it)

I love the part where the mom says he's unarmed after he said he had a gun. So are the cops just supposed to believe her, and then get blasted when it turns out she was wrong?

I know I've seen that scenerio on Law & Order a couple of times with some criminals dying and the surviving one being charged with the murder. I don't really see where they get off playing the race card in this case.

The only thing that bugged me about the ending of the Austin/Rock match was that it was the 2nd year in a row that a heel won the main event at WM. That, and it was pretty stupid to turn Austin in Texas. I did rather enjoy the large pop he got despite having just smashed the fuck out of the company's #1 babyface though.

11/8: One Of The Worst Entries You Can Post For A Muslim Male
Smues commented on kkktookmybabyaway's blog entry in KK's Korner
It's not by choice. The guy I share an office with pretty much never turns the dial away from it. So much so that I brought my own radio into the same office so I can get something else. Of course the guy I used to share an office with listened to the other local NPR station so I guess I just can't win. That one at least played music, but all the talk was more about native shit and not national stuff, so I guess I'll take the current one I'm stuck with. -

I just heard another one to add to the list on NPR: charging interest on a loan. They said it's a capital crime. I'm starting to think that the list of things you can do to a muslim is a lot shorter than what you can't do. Maybe that list would be easier to maintain. -
To this day I still break out a random "Hey it's Tony Atlas!" just to confuse the people around me. God bless Roddy Piper. What show was it at that he did that anyway?

If I ever pay off my credit card I'll need to pick that up. When do we get the quarterfinals of the baseball thingy?

When I moved to my current place I tried to move as much as possible myself without asking for outside help, so as not to owe anyone for it. The only item I couldn't do myself was the couch, and that of course ended up being a major pain in the ass even with help so I still really owe the guy who helped me move it.

That nearly broke my brain. As for the costumes I thought they were pretty funny and don't see what the problem is.
