Compare 1960-1965 numbers of Vietnam. You have to take into account that it was only after the major escalations began in '65 that the huge casualties began. In Iraq we have only now topped out our troop level and it is still less than 1/3 of what the high-mark in Vietnam was. While Vietnam, over its entire course was far worse in total casualties, it has to be realized that Iraq has been shorter so far & fough with a much smaller (pointlessly small) force. Also, Iraq has been a much more disastrous strategic mistake than was Vietnam. Whereas Vietnam falling never would have resulted in the 'dominoes' falling, and the Iraqis never will make it over to America, we have allowed actual terrorism to go largely ignored. So, while you are right in saying that Vietnam was worse in terms of total casualties, it is also true that Iraq worse strategically. Both are terrible in that they will have badly effected all its actual participants (the soldiers not the draft/service dodging cheerleaders back home) as well as their families, friends, and descendants. Sims, a Minneapolis rapper, has a brilliant line in one of his songs, "my generation is the seeds of Vietnam", and it is extremely accurate. The next, and worst yet, chapter of the Vietnam War is that this generation must repeat all of those mistakes in the name of leaders who refuse to learn. In 20 years another poet will be saying 'my generation is the seeds of Iraq' and we can only hope we aren't repeated the same horror in another country.

They're not talked about on Espn as much as the Patriots, though.
-
Why hasnt anyone considered that it was probably a series of double-agents from the other teams running those cameras?
-
The Patriots wouldn't cheat because 9/11.

Considering the channel has nothing to do with either music or videos the lameness will be an annual event that makes no sense.

He said he didn't leave during the game/videotape disagreed.

Leaving the stadium during a game. And, yeah, he just corked his bat, nothing wrong with that. Cnnsi said the Brewers were finished, Cubs & Cards are doing just fine.

Because Jose Conseco needed money so he wrote a book about steroids, and Sosa happens to be a famous slugger who hit a bunch of homeruns. Hit a bunch of homeruns after a conspicuously massive weight gain. And there's his history of lying & cheating that doesn't help the Sosa cause any.
-
Milwaukee hit 6 homeruns today, 3 consecutive to start the game, to crush the Reds and win an important road series finally. They'e alone again in first place in spite of Cnnsi labeling them dead on Friday (while tied for first). That article dumbess was topped only by Dr Z's 'Brett Favre is not a first ballot HOFer' piece. I mean, yeah, the Brewers might not make the playoffs in the end but to say its over while they are in first place for no other reason than the other two teams being more popular is really sad.

Green Bay's win (along with the Badgers' & the annual lasagne my friend made me) was my best birthday gift of the year.

Hey, Chris Wallace, we only take our marching orders from al Qaeda in Afghanistan & Pakistan.

Disregarding almostcandenza's mindless post, here's a few reasons why I think it should be reuired reading more often. -It is the rare kind of novel that actually has the kind of power capable of making a person realize potentials they might have no idea they actually have. With its contagious exuberance it can carry a high schooler without a pre-set lifeplan towards greater things than the usual traps of adulthood such as permanent factory/restaurant/etc employment or worthless fringe existences (drug/alcohol-based lives, etc). While On The Road might seem to not be the kind of novel that can lead a teenager away from a meaningless future based on drugs/alcohol/nothing at all it actually often can. By creating passions to explore, to meet diverse new people without attachments of prejudice, it can lay a foundation for college success, happier lives in new communities, and potential artistic growth that might not otherwise have been followed. -With well-led discussion it might provide very useful lessons on human relationships, responsibilities, trappings of both excess & conservatism. -It illuminates social classes often left ignored...the homeless, the addicted, the restless, the bottom-end working class, the unpublished poets, the insane, homosexuals, etc. -Also, it can be read as history. While the Leave It To Beaverness & McCarthyism of the Post-War generation are often taught in high schools the constantly moving & desperately creating counterculture of that era is largley ignored. Beyond the primary history of its own time, On The Road also catches a vivid moment that has been repeated many times since & will continue to do so for generations to come. And that, the past & its impact on future, is supposed to be one of the key points of history education.

The Conferences don't hype the teams.

Atmosphere is headlining a really good tour in support of that record...Mac Lethal, Grayskul, & Luckyiam (of Living Legends) on the bill. Gonna be awesome.

Christ, that was terrible. I apologize for defending that in advance.

I kind of like the premise of not just entirely coddling sports stars.

Why are they still milking the Johnny Couger teet?
