... how much I love youse guys! Replying to that Blazenwing fellow made me think, and I've decided I really enjoy writing with, and against you guys, so thanks for putting up with an old-head like me. - Curt

I think whether or not this board is still "fun" depends on what you come here for. I basically come here for the SWF board and to read spoilers, so, yeah, it's still "fun" to me, I guess. EDIT - Funny thing, that; for my first six or seven months on this board, I wouldn't touch the SWF with a ten-foot pole. Now, I'm not interested in anything else around here...

This comes across as a cop-out, and I have difficulty believing that you ever wanted to be there in the first place. When I first joined the JL, I lost all the time; I didn't beat a single person who showed to write against me my first month and a half in the fed. As somebody who'd been out of school for over nine years before I picked this stuff up, I didn't think I had what it took to be competitive in the fed, and was ready to quit. But I accepted the advice of the other guys, and I got better. And, eventually, I broke through with a half decent match, and after that, I found my writing niche and took off. But losing is a humbling experience, believe me, I know. I'm about ten years older than the average age of writers in the SWF, and at first, I didn't know how to take it when I was getting routinely outdone by sixteen-year olds, especially since I had been a pretty good writer back when I was in high school. But that just helped me to realize how much I had lost as a writer, and motivated me to do better. I doubt you have any idea how much pride I had to swallow before I was willing to ask teenagers what I needed to do to write better, but I did, because I really enjoy writing for the SWF, and I enjoy the people I'm associated with there. All I'm trying to say is that if writing matches is something you wanted to do from the beginning, you wouldn't use losing as an excuse to quit; if all you wanted to do was RP, that's your business, even though the SWF's charter clearly states that it's not an RP-based fed.

How many must watch shows do you have?
Mr. S£im Citrus replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in Television & Film
RAW (I'd watch Smackdown, but Oceanic Cable doesn't carry UPN) Velocity Frasier JAG Navy NCIS (If the rest of the show turns out to be as entertaining as the series premiere) That 70's Show That's about it; hell, I'm not really even aware of anything else on television... -
The 3rd Annual SWF Awards Nominations
Mr. S£im Citrus replied to HVilleThugg's topic in Smarks Wrestling Federation
:: didn't see that in the instructions :: I glossed over the instructions, specifically to see if there was any rule about how the PM should be addressed, I swear I did; I guess I just missed it. You want I should send it again? -
That is not what I mean, and the WWE is not being partisan. =/= means "is not equal to."
-
WWE wasting their time =/= WWE being partisan
-
I might accept that statement, if it weren't for the fact that I've been trying to tell you that you were misinformed for well over an hour.
-
Then people should not go into the military if they don't want to be forced to do things they do not want (like going into wars they don't believe in). ... That's the first non-stupid thing you've said all day...
-
Was it exploitation? No. Discussion over.
-
WWE shouldn't encourage people to vote? Why the hell not?
-
Yes. It is. There is no contract that ever has, or ever will exist in the United States Military that allows you to pick and choose what campaigns you want to participate in. If you're in, and a war breaks out, and they tell you to go, you're going. If you refuse to fight in a war, they'll throw you in the brig; "disobeying a lawful order" is the very least you can hope to be charged with. You will absolutely be court-martialed, charges against you may go as high as treason. You have no idea whatsoever what the hell you're talking about.
-
None of which include, "not wanting to go to war." Um, that number is, in fact, based on the turnout of registered voters, not of the number of voting-elligible people. In no presidential election in recent history have at least 51 percent of those eligible to vote actually done so, so the "majority" of people in this country do not, in fact, show up to vote in major elections.
-
But not every single contract states you must fight in any war. There has to be contracts that allow you to train for wars, and choose the wars you go into. Okay, now I'm sure you're yanking our chains. You're either a troll, or you've had the worst education available anywhere. That's not only dead wrong, it's the dumbest statement about the United States Military that I've ever read.
-
It is, they can not go to the war if they don't want to. There are ways like leaving to go to college instead of staying in the mililtary. Stop being stupid; you can't just leave the military to go to college! Once you enlist, there are basically only two ways out: 1 - get honorably discharged when your enlistment is up. 2 - get dishonorably discharged. People who don't have shit for brains don't get themselves dishonorably discharged. There are other exceptions, but "going to college" is not one of them. Sure they do; 51% sure is an overwhelming majority.

... for all the wrong reasons...
-
*sigh* I just fucking told you why!
-
1. As I said, the United States Armed Forces didn't declare war on Iraq. Congress did. People who object to the war have no reason not to care about the soldiers, because it's not the soldiers' fault. 2. Showing the troops on RAW isn't any more partisan than the "Smackdown the Vote" campaign. Stop being obtuse. 3. If you want proof, enlist, and see for yourself. As someone who's been in the military for almost nine years, I'm telling you that your assumption is patently stupid. That's not how it works: when you enlist in the military, you sign a piece of paper that says that you will obey any lawful order, as prescribed by military regulations and doctrine. "Go to war," whether you want to believe it or not, is a lawful order. I enlisted in 1995, long before war was declared on Iraq. I may or may not agree with why we are at war with Iraq, but if the CNO tells me I have to go over there, then I have to fucking go. That's the way it works.
-
There's no reason not to care about the soldiers; it's not our fault that the country is at war. We don't operate autonomously. You seem to be confusing the definitions of "partisan" and "appreciative." Partisan would be if they said something like, "here are some of our boys who just came back from whippin' Saddam's ass for the good ol' U. S. of A." They didn't say that. Well, you can stop assuming; that's not how it works. Your "common sense" is on the blink.
-
You're full of shit; just because this is an all-volunteer armed forces doesn't mean that we all volunteered to go to Iraq. You act like the United States Armed Forces didn't exist before the Iraqi War.
-
Whether they agree or not is no reason to bag on the soldiers. WWE showing American troops on television isn't partisan, unless you're using some new definition of "partisan" that I was previously unaware of; it's Vince saying he appreciates the bravery of those guys that went over there and got shot at. That's it; stop fucking reading into it. What the fuck? I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but everybody stationed over there didn't wait until the war started to enlist; in fact, I'm fairly certain that very few of the people over there enlisted to fight in the Iraqi war. If you're in the armed forces, you don't get to say, "I'm not going to Iraq, because I don't agree with why we're going over there." Based on that statement, my knee-jerk reaction would be to assume that you're an idiot, but I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and just assume that you're misinformed.
