  1. www.shiner.com I've read about the Hefeweizen, but it's not available over here. The only ones I can get in town are the Bock (which I was discussing in my initial post), Light and Blonde. I didn't much like the Blonde.
  2. I saw Elbow do an acoustic set at the CMJ fest back in '03. They were alright, which is how I generally feel about them. I can also tell you that the singer for the band talked rudely to me when I wouldn't let him use this one exit to go smoke outside (I was volunteering at the fest, following CMJ's orders). Whatta dick.
  3. Shiner is a decent, affordably-priced lager, but little more than that. They have a light beer that's arguably better than any light beer I've ever had, but that's not saying much. I like Dos Equis okay. I prefer the amber to the regular lager, but really, I never drink it unless I'm eating at a Mexican restaurant, where it goes great with the cuisine.
  4. The Shins sound like none of the bands mentioned in this thread.
  5. I do most my beer shopping at select Jax Liquors locations (there's several here, but only a third of them have a good selection), World Market and Broudie's. The last of those is a liquor store out at the beach; they also have a couple of locations in St. Augustine, but neither are quite as up to snuff as the one here. Occasionally, I'll find something a little left-of-center at Publix, but that doesn't happen very often.
  6. A lot of people whose taste I generally trust/respect thinks Doves are something wonderful, but, after giving The Last Broadcast and Some Cities a shot, I can safely say that I mostly hate them.
  7. Do Keane fans also like Doves? Because I was listening to The Last Broadcast earlier and while "Words" was good, the rest of the album irritated me to no end.
  8. You probably won't wake up, from the sound of it.
  9. When I saw them live in 01/05, I hosed my shorts when CVB played that song.
  10. I like Rather Ripped. Okay, it does contain their worst song since NYC Ghosts & Flowers (that's "Lights Out," if you're curious), but SY have acquired a good, solid formula over the last few albums. Yes, it is a formula, but they know how to work it. And not only is this the third good Sonic Youth album in a row—a feat they haven't pulled off since the 80s—it's also the third Sonic Youth album in a row where I didn't want to headbutt Kim Gordon in the ovaries. Cheers.
  11. If it's a novel I'm already well familiar with, every now and then I'll open it to a random page and start reading. I do this with Infinite Jest and Gravity's Rainbow a lot.
  12. I like the Celebrator—I have one of those little rams hanging off the handle of a cabinet in my kitchen!—but I have a mild allergy to spending ten dollars or more for a four pack. So I don't drink Celebrator very often. Right now, I'm enjoying Dogfish Head's Raison D'Etre. I haven't had it in over a year; it's just as good as I remembered.
  13. This thread is a 24-page suicide note.
  14. You'd be better off smearing menstrual blood on your face than listening to the Dresden Dolls. And I'm gonna give the edge to FNM's "War Pigs" because Patton's a better singer than Ozzy. And no, I'm not one of those slavishly devoted Patton fanboys.
  15. Thread title should read "aks," not "ask." Doesn't this person know their negroid dialect?
  16. If you like that Inc., try and find some of their 90 minute IPA. One of my top ten favorite beers. I've had it and I do like it, though not as much as the 60. The 60 has a stronger hop flavor—which is odd, considering—and I love really hoppy stuff. Have you had their 120? It's...okay. A little too much like gin, I think. The only time I had it, I was splitting a 12oz bottle with a friend; it took me about 20 minutes to finish just six ounces, which makes me think I could never take a whole bottle. Their World Wide Stout, in spite of being almost as strong as the 120, is very, very drinkable. I can't wait until its available again.
  17. I saw The Proposition today. I liked it quite a bit.
  18. Thanks for the tip, bro.
  19. This movie looks awful, by the way. The real tragedy of 9/11 is that it allowed Oliver Stone to do this.
  20. Nic Cage's moustache is the real star of this movie.
  21. I was never even that attracted to her, but the way she moaned those "oh's" hit me just right that one time. I haven't heard the song, since.
  22. I can find Carlsburg in just about any Publix up here. As for my favorite beer, jeez where to start? Lately, I've been loving Dogfish Head's 60 Minute IPA.
  23. I once stated in one of these covers threads that I've yet to hear a version of "Hallelujah" to completely satisfy me. Buckley's is too histrionic; John Cale's is too cold and detached; Cohen's original is, well, awful. Apparently, Sheryl Crow did her own take of it, which I haven't heard. I'm sure it's awful, though she once pulled off a cover of "D'yer Ma'ker" that, when I heard it in high school, gave me a boner.
  24. Oh, and resolved: Uncle Tupelo's "I Wanna Be Your Dog" surpasses the original.
