  1. I dunno, I never got the appeal of this show. If I wanted to see dudes stab and rape each other, there plenty of places for that on the internet.
  2. gary floyd231's really been working this "day late, dollar short" bit, huh. (see: this thread and AndyMole's bye thread)
  3. It'll sell well, no doubt, but it just isn't going to make its money back. Michael Jackson's Invincible went double platinum—a figure a lot of acts would kill for—but it was still considered a bomb when you take into account the pre-release hype, Jackson's previous record sales and just how much money went into making and advertising it.
  4. Axl and Co. are playing here the same night as the Melvins. If the Melvins haven't sucked for the last ten years, something about the night would be worth looking forward to.
  5. So who all's in this band now? Tommy Stinson's still there, right?
  6. I made this thread a year ago and he said his real birthday was in May or something. Why the fake one, I dunno.
  7. I wanna work in a warehouse.
  8. Anyone else want to punch this girl as much as I?
  9. This thread.
  10. That's not how that song goes.
  11. Catty!
  12. This is a great boon for the few of us who were open Mole supporters. Still, I'm skeptical.
  13. YPoV is so nosy.
  14. Is this true? I hope so.
  15. I should mention that the latter of the two missed nearly two weeks of classes after he came down with pneuomonia, only to resume "teaching" in a monstrously sick state. He would cough, sputter and sweat his way through thirty minutes of numbers and equations before calling off the class. I'd still butter him up, though, which, really, means I was taking advantage of a guy who may or may not have been terminal. After that semester, I never saw him again.
  16. Czech's right on re: the math people. Of the two college-level math classes I took and passed/didn't drop out of, one was taught by a guy who was fairly sympathetic to those who were basically math-retarded and passed you if you at least tried (which was my case); the other, by a guy so hopelessly incompetent and pathetic that you could show up for half of the classes—if that—barely do any work and he'd still pass you as long as you went up to him occasionally and said "hey, I'm trying here." I got a B in that one.
  17. She's cute, but her music does nothing for me. I do kinda like that "Smile" rips off Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me," though. Not a big cop, but the melody's there.
  18. I pity you, then. The handful of great classes I've had set me on the course I am today. But yeah, a good portion of any typical English department rivals the philosophy dept. for biggest collection of pretentious douchebaggery at any university.
  19. I once had a prof who would regularly quote his own poems when trying to illustrate whatever windbaggy point he was trying to make about whatever book we were discussing. I kind of hate him, but he's currently the department head, so you know.
  20. I know why she changed it, hence the use of "calculated."
  21. I've had two, maybe three, lit profs I ever, truly liked. I'm trying to model myself after them, right down to the leather patches on the elbows of my tweed jacket.
  22. Not "new" new, but close enough. Looking at the track list for the box, I haven't heard three-quarters of it. I just downloaded the sample from Pitchfork the other day. Good, but I don't know if I like him being topical. I assume that was a Real Gone outtake? I'll buy this anyway. I don't know where or what it stems from—does this set have a few brand new songs on it?—but I agree with your assessment. The lyrics are unusually direct for him; he's done politics before—"Day After Tomorrow" from Real Gone, for instance—but never in so straightforward a manner.
  23. I was soured on poetry after the guy that basically served as my mentor—a published poet himself—admitted that you can call anything you like poetry. All it takes is to publish a few poems in one of the accepted formats and then you can put out a thirty paragraph prose piece and say "hey, this is my new poem" and it would be viewed as such. Yeah. Like any depressive teen, I've messed around with poetry, but it's always been more of a problem-solving exercise--working within the constraints of meter and form and all that jazz--rather than any means of expression. Poetry has its place, is a viable artform, etc. but I've long since accepted it's just not for me. And, to repeat something I've already said in this thread, I'm fine with that. Let the kids have it.
