  1. Remember? Of course not. Who cares about Johnny Marr?
  2. Well, now, good to know I can instantly discount your opinion on most anything.
  3. Salinger handles the English language deftly enough to where Catcher is readable, but that did little to make me want to do anything other than throttle Holden Caulfield.
  4. uhm, no. I just noticed this, and yes. Why? John Cale didn't understand this band at all. I hate his production on the original Stooges recording of it, as well as the rest of the album it came from. Too clean and sterile; plus, mixing Iggy's vocals so high in the mix was total idiocy. Why attract attention to the lyrics, which was the one bad thing about the band? Had the s/t been less sanitary and more sleazy like Fun House, I would never have stated the above.
  5. The Clapton tune is "Your Kid Committed Suicide Because You Suck."
  6. Like Marr's done anything interesting since the Smiths broke up. This really isn't interesting, either. More of a "huh" type of thing.
  7. "Living Colour is My Favorite Black Metal Band"
  8. And hey, I'm listening to SABB again right now, and I think I may've been a little too harsh on "Lament." I still don't like "The Night Watch" much.
  9. Speaking of "Fracture," I like when bands reference their earlier material, as they do on that one. Apparently THRAK-era KC does that, too, which is cool.
  10. I think we can all agree on just how much "The Great Deceiver" rocks, at least.
  11. IN THE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAT OF THE MOMENT Really, the fact that I can't get behind Wetton's pipes is a shame, because, musically, I'd definitely agree with anyone who says that that era of King Crimson is their strongest.
  12. Pick It or Kick It
  13. "Lament"'s kind of a bore, with or without Wetton; "The Night Watch"—mostly in the verses—is pure prog twaddle. It's the soundtrack for gnomes frolicing in the forest. Red remains the only Wetton-era album where his voice is just fine; mainly for the lack of it, as well as when he does sing, his voice is very low in the mix. Which was the way it always should've been.
  14. So, I'm going to continue thinking of New Order as a good singles band.
  15. Well, he was bothering me just now, listening to Starless and Bible Black. Though he acquits himself nicely on "The Great Deceiver." For what it's worth, I appreciate SABB a lot more now than I did a couple of years ago. It's a combination of being more open to this kind of music and immersing myself in Larks' Tongues in Aspic and Red beforehand.
  16. I don't agree with this, as Alex Chilton was the driving force of that band outside of Chris Bell, who was only there for the first album, anyway. Regardless, In Space sucked and is best to be considered as something that Never Happened.
  17. New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies New Order's always been a singles band for me—and they've certainly had a great run of singles, what with "Blue Monday," "Temptation," "Bizarre Love Triangle," "True Faith," etc.—but their full length albums always bored me. Well, it's been a number of years since I bothered to listen to any one of their whole albums, so I thought I'd give what's generally considered one of their best a shot. I don't recall that I've actually heard this one all the way through before, so here goes. New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This Okay, so, I was really, really reluctant to check this one out—what nerve does some short-lived though very great band from the 70s have recording a new album some thirty years later when three of the five members from their heyday are no longer among the living?—but there's been a shocking number of positive reviews from generally trustworthy sources (both in the music critic world and people I actually know), that I'm willing to give this a listen. I'm still preparing for the worst, but who knows.
  18. Rap is pretty terrible these days.
  19. I've done this.
  20. As much as I like them, Olivia Tremor Control can be frustrating to listen to sometimes. I enjoy me some free jazz and some noise, but it can be a little irritating when they bury some great pop songs underneath static and myriad tape loops. That said, their highs are really, really high: "The Opera House," "Jumping Fences," and especially "NYC .25"...that's just from Dusk at Cubist Castle. The other one, Black Foliage, is good, but with less standout songs and more of the problems I mentioned earlier.
  21. The Beatles
  22. Bummer in the summer.
  23. Are you? Are you really, legitimately, truly disappointed? Truly, madly, deeply disappointed. That just seems like getting upset that Band of Horses wasn't invited to play at the show, if you know what I mean.
  24. I just sent shockwaves throughout the message board universe.
