  1. I've got a bad feeling the South Side Hitmen might go after Smoltz. Gives them a closer, and could move into rotation if they keep him.
  2. The 90's sucked.
  3. They want Shinn to sell because he's a sleazy old man who's been hit with numerous sexual harrassment suites and as had one known affair with a secretary.
  4. Astro fans are idiots. Kent and Berkman are the only two who belong in the Top 5.
  5. From what I see of Houston. I see little passion. They look like a deflated team. While, Williams isn't too blame for Hidalgo being a dog, and Oswalt and Miller underachieving. He can be blamed for poor bullpen managment, and not getting his team ready to play.
  6. True. But, pitching numbers are skewed because the mound was 10 feet closer up to 1885.
  7. If they win Game 5. Well will they or won't they win? You tell everyone they win the series if they win Tuesday...yet you don't make a prediction in that game.
  8. Come on Astro fans jump on the fire Jimi Williams bandwagon.
  9. I'm gonna ask 1901 be the cut off line. Too many Ross Barnes, and Pud Galvin's who had clear advantages in their records.
  10. Some good young talent for pretty cheap. Qyntel Woods, Troy Bell, Brandon Hunter, and Reece Gaines.
  11. Antonio Davis making 12 million is just wrong.
  12. This isn't an upset. The Lakers beside Shaq, and Kobe who when they're on are the two best players. The Lakers has a team are inferior athletically, and quite honestly Detroit has better overall talent and depth.
  13. Atheist doesn't come close to describing this ass. Atheist don't believe in God, Newdow thinks he's better than God.
  14. Who the hell cares. You could easily find 26 former staffers who agree President Bush should be relected.
  15. Pretty simple. Best season by a catcher, 1B, 2B, etc. Include both leagues please.
  16. They might be, but they shouldn't be. The rest of the list are teams that dominated their sport that season. The 80 Olympic team pulled one of the biggest upsets in sports history. The Soviets were the better team. They honestly don't belong in the discussion of greatest single season teams.
  17. Jimi Williams better not be the manager after tomorrow's game.
  18. Look at the 2003 Detroit Tigers. They had a winning % of .265. In the NBA that would be the equivilent of a 22-60 record. That's a bad season, but most years the worst teams have close too that record.
  19. I agree 100%. I love that 1998 Yankee team. The key word is team. I've never seen anyone play so well has a team in my life.
  20. Careful what you say about Baroness Thatcher. After her eulogy at President Reagan's memorial..who seriously might be looking at American's next honorary citizen.

    Sad News

I'm assuming FDR ranks first. Since Presidents are being discussed. Figured I'd toss out some Presidential tidbits. Only 13 of the 43 men who served has President, where elected and served the full length of their two terms. Two of those men FDR (4 terms), and Cleveland (non-consecutive) did not serve just two consecutive terms. Two others Lincoln and Nixon won reelection, but did not finish their 2nd term. Another thing of interest. The only time in our nation's history. That we saw two full 2 term 8 year presidencies was Madison and Monroe. Include Jefferson and it's 3 consecutive Presidents. A pretty remarkable number that only 15 men have been elected too a 2nd term. Others for various reasons choose not too (Polk) or were assasinated (JFK) would of won reelection. Add those select few and the total number is 19 (Polk, Roosevelt, Coolige, and JFK).
  22. He could do that, or he could strike out or worse hit into a DP. Al, what about bunting in general? How do you feel about players bunting for base hits?
  23. My parents, my aunt and uncles. All of which have been married for over 30-40 years.
  24. I just personally find that song to be more about religion and less about patriotism than other songs, such as Stars & Stripes Forever, the national anthem, America The Beautiful, or others. Also, our rights were granted by a "creator", of which no specific denomination was named, thank you. That song is more religious than the others. That's why President Reagan choose that song to be played at his memorial.
  25. What was the best 49er team? '84 or '89. '84 SF was 15-1. and '89 they where 14-2? 1984 goes under the radar screen, while the 1989 season was the peak of the Montana/Rice era. They also had the 55-10 S.B. win over the Broncos. I think 89 wins out.
