All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
With all due respect to drury, there are still a boatload of decent hosses available. Hell, some of the best big men of all time are as yet undrafted. Virtually, any hoss would be better than Gonzalez. I'm not surprised he got drafted. He's got a good enough look (faux naked fur body suit aside) and is absolutelyfuckinghuge but I didn't think he'd go until the last five or six rounds at the earliest. -

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Here's another one I'm surprised hasn't been picked yet. This guy is one of the most memorable wrestlers of the '80s and one of the most beloved personalities in wrestling. To this day, when he makes his sporadic appearances on RAW, he always manages to get an impressive pop from the crowd. While his wrestling skills leave a lot to be desired, he could brawl with the best of them in his day. He's the perfect foil for "Superstar" Billy Graham. It'll be played up as one of the most tried and true storylines in wrestling; The Hollywood Showboat Vs The Blue Collared Everyman. He's a former WCW U.S. Champion, WCW Television Champion, UWF World Tag Team Champion, Mid South North American Champion, and the winner of the first televised Royal Rumble. With my 12th pick and the 215th pick overall, I'm proud to select everybody's favorite idiot.... "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan I'll be using the slightly less cartoonish, Buford Pusser-esque UWF/Mid-South era Jim Duggan for my fed. -
Let's Talk About...The New Blood/Millionaires Club angle

Warrior beating Hogan and thus getting the figurative torch passed to him didn't end the WWF's "golden era". What ended it was the half assed booking of the Warrior's World title reign and the fact that the WWF themselves didn't seem ready to move on from Hogan. Heck, the biggest post WrestleMania angle that year involved Hogan! Warrior's first PPV World title defense was completely overshadowed by Hogan getting revenge on Earthquake for sitting on him. But Warrior actually winning the title and for about a day and a half, getting the figurative torch passed to him by Hogan was very well done. The WWF did a good job with the buildup to giving the Warrior the ball but didn't know what to do with him after he had it. And I hate defending The Warrior as much as most of you probably hate me reading it. But The Warrior has been responsible for most of the shit that's got him rightfully derided by the IWC but he's not completely at fault for his Diesel bad WWF World title run. -
Technically, any WWE that happened in the past five years is supposed to be discussed in the WWE Folder.

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

There are so many great tag teams left on the board and I thought I'd fill the final slot in my roster while the gettin's good. I think a good tag team division is essential to a good promotion. This tag team is one of my all time personal favorites and a team I thought surely would have been picked by now (or at least one of the members solo). They're up there with The Steiner Brothers and The Road Warriors for producing the most entertaining squash matches. They didn't just beat guys, they destroyed them. They were also incredibly agile for big men and an essential part of the incredibly underrated WWF tag team scene of the mid 90s. These men are three time former WCWA tag team champions and former WWF Tag Team Champions With my 12th pick and the 210th selection overall, I'm proud to select... Fatu and Samu...The Headshrinkers! I'll be primarily using them as heels against The Nasty Boys. I think that series would produce some incredible brawls. But a series between them and Strike Force would also be super nifty. -
I've said it before on this board many times and I'll say it again. There was nothing wrong with the buildup to Diesel's WWF World title reign but the actual reign itself was terrible.
-
I hate to defend Nash but to uneducated marks at the time like myself (and Venkman), Diesel was easily the #3 heel in the company behind Owen and Yokozuna. One of my biggest markout moments was watching Razor Ramon beat Diesel at SummerSlam '94. I thought Razor had no chance because Diesel was one of those guys that was just too tough. Granted, I thought Giant Gonzalez and Ludvig Borga were "too tough" to be beaten. Ah, to be a mark again.
-
Yeah, at this point DiBiase was gone from the WWF (IIRC, his last appearance was jobbing to Razor at SummerSlam '93) and doing a very brief stint wrestling in Japan before he retired.

Obviously, I was hoping for the same. Kamala is a damn underrated monster heel and I would have like to pair him up against Kerry Von Erich. Alas, it was not meant to be. Still a couple of really good monster heels left on the board. -
The (dumb) reasoning was that Art Donovan is a Baltimore legend (He's a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Played with The Baltimore Colts in case you don't know exactly who he is) and a generally gregarious guy who was a good talk show guest and thus with the show being held in Baltimore, he should commentate! Of course they didn't take into account the fact that he knew jabsolutely nothing about wrestling and the rest...is WrestleCrap history.

I've been mildly impressed by The Top Guns as well. Sure, they were completely inept and awful on the mic and they came at an a time when there was an overabundance of pretty boy babyface tag teams in wrestling, most of whom were leagues better than them (The Rockers, Rock 'N' Roll Express, Strike Force) but in the ring, they're pretty decent. I'm quite surprised that neither of the guys got runs in WWF or WCW. They're far from the worst thing about these shows. I'm kind of upset I missed Don Rickles on the Celebrity Corner segment last night. Those segments are completely useless but I would have liked to seen Rickles riff endlessly on Verne Gagne

Sausage. Though I imagine this decision had a lot to do with the fact that most bacon I've had in the past few years has been turkey bacon. I love regular bacon and turkey bacon is an acceptable substitute on occasion but damn my dad for finding a way to include it in every meal I have at home.

I think there was some discussion here and in TCS about possibly starting a "trial period" group with some limited permissions for people under 100 posts. I was in favor of it, but nothing ever really came out of that especially after all the drama we had when we first took over the board. If anyone else supports this idea, speak your mind now and we'll go over it. I, for one, am strongly in favor of it

I agree with all of those except I'm utterly indifferent towards Wheat Thins. I just can't see getting worked up one way or another over them.

Hulk Hogan's First WWF World title defense against The Masked Superstar (2-10-84)

Yeah, but you're a grown ass man. My dad has good taste in music, or at least he used to, but he doesn't listen to music anymore, because of his religious beliefs. (not that they forbid him from music, just the kind of music he likes, ie. Sabbath et all) I realized how odd that was after I posted it. Yeah I'm kind of a geek. But you see that kind of scenario at classic rock concerts all the time. Fathers and sons reunited for the majestical rock power of Foreigner or what have you.
-
I go to shows with my dad on a semi-regular basis. Of course, we both like fogey rock so it's a natural fit.

The Headshrinkers Vs Yokozuna and Crush. I remember that was actually a pretty fun match considering all of the hosses.

Let's Talk About...The New Blood/Millionaires Club angle
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
One of the worst things to come out of that era; The Misfits In Action. None of the wrestlers were particulalry terrible except Van Hammer (Yeah I'm the guy who thought The Wall had potential so sue me!) and the idea of a middleground stable between The New Blood and Millionaires Club wasn't terrible but the execution was just awful. Easily one of my least favorite stables of all time. -
All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
Eh- I think it should be a significant period. Maybe a three strikes rule- if you miss three picks, you're out. Anyways, onwards and upwards. Since there are loads of great tag teams left on the board, I thought I'd grab one. My next pick is one of my favorite teams of all time and one of the best tag teams of the '90s. I admit their wrestling skills left something to be desired (to put it nicely) but this team knew how to do one thing, they knew how to brawl and they could brawl with the best of them. I think a series with Strike Force would be fantastic. The pretty boy babyfaces against the street fighting, take no prisoner heels. These men are former WWF Tag Team Champions and three time WCW Tag Team Champions. Ladies and gentlemen, with my 11th pick and the 180th pick overall in the All Time Wrestling Roster Draft, I'm proud to select... Brian Knobbs and Jerry Saggs...The Nasty Boys! -

Can I make my pick yet? -
We've been talking a lot about '99 and '00 WCW so I thought I'd continue that tradition. After all, it's a lot more interesting to talk about bad wrestling than it is with good wrestling. Now this is an angle that I thought had incredible potential. There are many ways you could do it and make it compelling television. Allow me to put on my fantasy booker hat. You could have The Millionaires Club as the sympathetic babyfaces, legends of the squared circle being pushed aside by a youth obsessed new regime. Or you could have the opposite with The New Blood playing the babyfaces and looking to knock off the egomaniacal stalwarts that have had a stranglehold on WCW's main events for years.Unfortunately, WCW decided to do it in the worst way possible. Both sides came off looking like assholes. And not the compelling "shades of grey" assholes that us in the IWC tend to love just plain "I want to change the channel to RAW" assholes. You were never really sure why The New Blood were exactly the heels and why The Millionaires Club were the babyfaces. And why the hell would you name a babyface stable "The Millionaires Club" in the first place? Hasn't professional wrestling taught us to hate the wealthy? This was just one incredibly frustrating storyline. While I doubt WCW could have shot back to #1 if this angle was successful, I'm not sure if WCW was past the point of no return in April 2000. I'd even argue that the failure of this angle was the tipping point in WCW's demise. Russo and Bischoff joining forces to save WCW was hyped endlessly as something that could save WCW and perhaps regain them the top spot. Maybe I was a sucker but I kind of bought into the hype and when it quickly became clear that the big angle that was going to revive WCW turned out to be a big dud, I realized WCW was certainly never going back to #1 and it might be over for good. There was a sliver of decent stuff. The first few shows might not have made for good television persay but it was certainly interesting television. And working with new opponents, brought out the best stuff in years from Hogan. DDP and Jarrett's matches were consistently good. Though it was kind of absurd that with a still loaded roster that those two were on top. Of course, this was all rightfully overshadowed by stuff like Tank Abbott ripping off Mark Madden's shirt, David Arquette winning the WCW World title, and the general unreigned absurdity of Russo's booking. So let's talk about a time when world collided. When Russo joined forces with Bischoff and young clashed with old. Relive the crappiness (or greatness, Russo apologists are welcomed here) in this week's Let's Talk About...
