Democrats excommunicated from Baptists church
AndrewTS replied to Big Ol' Smitty's topic in Current Events
I've never met one Catholic in my age range that thought Protestants were going to hell for being non-Catholic. Plenty of Baptists I know find plenty of the Catholic rituals quaint/weird but don't hate them for it. There's also plenty of types of Baptist sects with slightly different beliefs. Methodists are exactly the same as Baptists except they believe you can lose your salvation. -
Weekend Boxoffice Report, April 29-May 1
AndrewTS replied to Youth N Asia's topic in Television & Film
I went into it without reading ahead, and hoped it actually followed more of the plot of the original. I liked the House of Haunted Hill remake Dark Castle made and hoped this would be as good. Not even close, though. On the bright side, I went to it mainly because a friend wanted to see it, so now he's going to go with me to see Hitchhiker's. I'm surprised you're not a little harsher on it lc231, considering how exceedingly lame all the lame "boo" scares and fake scares were. Then they were done over and over and over. If you're coming into it to see dumb kids getting killed, well, it has that but I suggest you come an hour late. Hilton's strip tease scene made her look slightly sexier than Olive Oyl. -

Okay, I was wrong about that. But I saw it, and it sucked. Sucked hard. Nothing happens for about an hour except cheap "boo" crap and countless horror movie cliches that were stale when the original HoW came out. And Paris Hilton takes longer to get killed than any of the other cannon-fodder peripheral characters. Bullshit. But it had a cool ending. -
Hasn't this same bullshit argument been made countless times already? It's a false dilemma. The problem is that WWE rarely pushes anybody any good. Come to think of it, this same thread had been made countless times already, and I doubt this one will break any new ground the others haven't.

Heidenreich Dance Party on WWE.com
AndrewTS replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in The WWE Folder
H's looks and mannerisms never changed. He just sucked really hard as a heel. He sucks hard as a face too, but it's easier to love him because he's a dumb lummox trying to do good, instead of a dumb lummox hurting faces. H-Reich was never going to be a star and it's good WWE apparently realized it. It's hard to make a legit main eventer out of a guy who seems to have gone to the Sid School of Being A Badass by Looking and Acting Constipated. Both looked like tools, but at least Sid at least looked like a scary, unpredictable tool. -
You don't need a job to play old RPGs. Just get an emulator and find ROMs. Play some Seiken Densetsu 3 and make up for the lameness of Evermore. And fuck Square USA in the ear for giving us Evermore instead of SD3. Incidentally, I was surprised to learn that in the union of Square and Enix, Square's the bitch. Apparently a lot of the ideas from the old Square people are getting nixed. Skies of Arcadia is pretty good.

Michelle was in the green top. And that ain't no dog...overgrown rat maybe. -
I meant about the game being worth a damn or even being worth 9 bucks. That's about the average I pay for my games in general anyway.

I am needed. In fact, my vote should count twice. CT on the panel seems to be essentially the same thing. Will the discussion phase of this take place via IMs or the board, Flik? And the extension would be welcomed, but I was under the impression that we needed to finish everything before the 20th.
-
I like that one, even though the one I have/thinking of is an old PS2 game that's about 10 bucks now new. And nobody's ever online to play it...if they even have servers up for it still.
-
The panel is full, though. However, if you want to abdicate your position to let Mike take a spot, Flik'd probably be flexible about it, CT... doesn't think we needed CT *and* Anya...

Confirmed: Bret Hart Offered WWE 2006 Hall Of Fame
AndrewTS replied to algrim's topic in The WWE Folder
It has always been in my belief and many others that the "Iron Man" match is the most contrived and ill-logical gimmick of all gimmicks. The crowd is conditioned and told when the match means something, that being the final 10 minutes. You are telling the crowd and viewers WHEN to pay attention. I just cant get into a Iron-Man match be it 30 or 60 minutes And with 2/3 falls? Fans are conditioned to expect that the first two falls mean nothing, because it will end up 1-1. It will go to a third, then you find out the real winner. There's been, what, 1 2/3 falls match in WWE to go 2 straight falls? Maybe I'm wrong, but aren't you the guy who likes to point out that a big reason Diesel's reign tanked because the midcard and undercard programs absolutely sucked during that time period? -
On a related note, apparently Buyrite is out of business. http://www.bbbenc.org/commonreport.html?bid=19394 Good to know. Damn, they sucked.

Roselli sounds like another Buff in the making. -
Quote I found on RT--seems to ring very true: "When I first had my Genesis and SNES and the earlier systems, there weren't nearly as many good games coming out this quickly, so I got to savor the ones that were really the most exceptional. Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Sonic 2, Vectorman, I played them all more than I play any of the new games I got now, because now it's like, 'this is a fun game, but I also gotta make room for more games I wanna play.'" Probably a lot to do with why chaosrage loves his Cube so much. Yeah, misses a lot of the other systems' exclusives, but the must-haves are timed such that he can savor each one the best.

Told Flik already, but finished making my list and I've got about 18 games commented on. Picking just 30 was hard. Plenty of games came to mind that I simply couldn't all fit in (sorry, Bionic Commando). Renegade and I both agree that with more time to write/play some games, we could easily have each done a top 50. Ranking for a lot of this is also pretty difficult. For some of us, probably surely, oh, number 8 on our list could be a number one to us depending on our mood
-
More or less, yeah. It isn't worth the money, but for me the discount card is.
-
Well, half of Assault is kinda "bleh." and SCIII is PS2 exclusive. Bleh to that. Maybe Bandai will have Namco reconsider the SCIII thing, at least for GC. They're tight with Nintendo in Japan, after all.
-
Renegade is a big fan of their Naruto games. GC one probably will never make it, but the PS2 one might. If not, they might end bringing the DS/PSP games here if the dubbed eps are a hit.

There weren't really any tightropes, so kind of a moot argument. And you mean missed a step between tightropes, right? It's pretty hard to fall off one once you're on it. Believe me, I like a lot of the features the jetpack offers, but some of them seem redundant compared to some of the nixed SM64 moves. The big gaps usually require long jumps, not triple jumps. Plus, you can do two *tiny* hops and then a triple jump without moving very far ahead. It's like the only way to get to that pink Bob-omb in Wet-Dry World. Falling off the level in the regular worlds rarely happened to me, but sometimes firing those cannons perfectly would be pretty frustrating. I'd sometimes overshoot a ledge and fall to my death. Oh well. *I* By that I meant calling them equal to or greater. It's very rare to see that. In other words, slight improvements. Slight improvements to the basic mechanics and gameplay do not an overall superior game make. Bully for them for liking the special courses. Not that I actually care even if they came out and said that they felt both games were unquestionably superior. Game Informer is shit. Yup. But if he's going to tell me about the rating so-and-so gave a game, I'll be glad to point out the obvious contradictions. That being said, Conker is on my N64 to-get list, but I've been having a hard time finding it.

"Almost everyone internally was pleased with Mondays Raw show, which was wrestling focused. Morale overall is high, with many thinking that business is finally beginning to rise, with an excellent PPV buyrate for WrestleMania, a sold out, high grossing European tour and steady TV ratings. " Because WM and overseas tours being successful are SURE signs of a turn-around, and not, you know, pretty much GIVENS for years and years now.

I found the game for $3 at Game Rush... Good for you, but it's also a good example why GameRush won't ever be competing with EB/Gamestop.

The loss of melee attacks, the ability to stop quickly and climb up steep inclines, the ability to grab and throw enemies--don't think they're useless, personally. The only times you had to worry about your footing on the ledges in Sunshine was the obstacle course stages. Where you didn't have your jet pack, remember? It's a moot argument. You could fall of the edges of stages and die in Mario 64, but that was a rare concern, except for in the Bowser stages. Losing the flight cap in Sunshine was also a disappointment. Yeah, you could only use it in a handful of stages, but it was great fun. The water pack doesn't really provide that. By the way, speaking of the camera---why is it that you can't get a decent camera perspective for shooting the water cannon? Any behind-the-back perspective is either angled to the left or angled to the right. Rather annoying when you have to shoot something at any distance. Besides that, the spraying/cleaning stuff constantly is tedious and boring. Especially when more muck is piling around behind you, and enemies pop out of it to jump on your back. *But* to get a decent shot at your enemy, you have to take a camera angle that prevents you from seeing them. Weak. Wish I could just punch those little pests out. If I did that right now, I wouldn't get far enough into the game to adequately judge it, get everything done I needed to this week, and still make and submit my list. Plus, it seemed to fall into the category of games that were praised in its time but never talked about now. An IGN numeric rating doesn't really mean squat, by the way. Plus, there's the irony of you using website reviews, when pretty much no games "journalist" of note on the planet is going to put WW and Sunshine in the same league as OOT and SM64. Including the list compiled by IGN themselves. right here: http://top100.ign.com/1-10.html Where's Conker? Where is it? Ah yes--#46. I see where you're coming from with your other arguments, and based on your tastes, yeah, I get why you prefer them. I just don't, and I'm not alone. For the record, during it's time many magazines gave critical acclaim to Dk64, which I saw through when I rented it. Later reviews, and retrospectly, they haven't been so kind to it. Conker came out when the N64 was on life support, so I missed it, as did plenty others. Perhaps that's a big reason it is overlooked on these lists, but considering it's getting ported to X-Box, not too likely. However, Rare's confidence that a 4 year old game will be good enough for a new release certainly seems to be a positive in its favor--but then again, Rare also gave us the awful new Starfox games and Grabbed by the Ghoulies. Fair enough, but the way they were executed in WW seemed to me as somewhat lazy and tedious. And I would agree if that ocean let you physically dive down into and explore the area you were in, but it didn't, and that would have been a bit unreasonable anyway. I see lots of water, and some of it has junk underneath it. A little different than a sprawing countryside in the original Zelda, filled with houses, trees, caves, bombable areas all around, and enemies. That being said, you're a fine devil's advocate. This is pretty much a circular argument at this point.
