    Superbowl XLII

I'm only going to one place for my Super Bowl insight: Cold Hard Football Facts. And this is why. Cuts through all the bullshit about "destiny" and gives us five things the Giants NEED to do (not should, not will, NEED to do) to win the game.

Super Bowl XLII as played on Tecmo Super Bowl. 1st Half: 2nd Half: Video Brady is as clutch as the real thing.

    Superbowl XLII

For those of us with NFL Network that want to stay the fuck away from Bootgate and all the shit that goes with Super Bowl week hype, here's their schedule of past SB games they are going to re-air. Sunday: Super Bowl XXXI (Patriots vs. Packers) is on right now (4PM) and XXXVIII (Patriots-Panthers) airs at 8. Monday: XXI (Giants-Broncos) at 8PM Tuesday: XXXVI (Patriots vs. Rams) at 8:30 Wednesday: XXV (Giants vs. Bills) at 9 Thursday: XXXIX (Patriots vs. Eagles) at 9 Friday: Patriots vs. Giants Week 17 game at 9 Saturday: VII (Dolphins vs. Redskins), the '72 Dolphins final game at 9:30
  4. I think Belichick still makes the switch by midseason and endures the shitstorm from media guys like Ron Borges. Bledsoe was most likely gone after the season regardless of what happened because of his contract and the fact that they were extremely high on Brady when they drafted him. Is the fact that it is in Hawaii the only reason the NFL Pro Bowl still exists?

    Superbowl XLII

Can someone please explain this article to me? I've read it twice and the point seems to be that the Patriots will be remembered more fondly if they lose the Super Bowl instead of if they win...or something.
  6. Our (Or Cowboys fans, at least) long national nightmare is over And yes, I just linked to OK Magazine. I will now slice my testicles off.

But like people are saying, it's all relative. In 1972, offenses were predominately rushing offenses: 13 teams had over 2,000 total yards rushing compared to just 7 in 2007. The Jets had the most total passing yards with 2777, which would have put them about 28th out of 32 this year and averaged just 5.8 YPC, which led the league. The worst pass offense this year (San Francisco), averaged THREE more yards per completion. There just is too much difference in each era to really say if one team is the "greatest".
  8. QFT ESPN's going to be unwatchable for the next 2 weeks. I don't think there's a single media outlet that is watchable during the seemingly endless pre-Super Bowl coverage. If your favorite team isn't in it, all of it is to be avoided. If you actually can get it, NFL Network is going to be a great oasis. Old Super Bowl games, America's Game documentaries, it's going to be great.
  9. I would have preferred the fresh matchup, but this looks like it could be the better game. It's Boston vs. New York (even though they play in New Jersey) yet again!
  10. Bleh. Saw it already.
  11. Don't fucking tell me they are going for the FG.
  12. You couldn't have fucked that up worse if you tried.
  13. I sucked ass in the main card but hit all the undercard fights. So perfectly average.
  14. Sounded like the crowd knew that screen was a bad idea. Tied again.
  15. There's Brett "havin' fun" again. Thankfully his team bailed his ass out there.
  16. Is FOX seriously going to try and combine political coverage with their Super Bowl coverage? Might be time for the "Another thousand reasons why FOX sucks" thread.
  17. That punt was the white flag by Norv. Rivers did well, but I think a healthy Volek would at least have put more zip on the passes instead of the ducks Phil was tossing up there. Brady outright sucked with that red zone INT being an inexcusable pass.
  18. 19. Rivers has a partially torn ACL. I'm guessing he's not playing much if at all Sunday since I would assume playing with such an injury in 10-15 degree temperatures is very, very difficult to do.
  20. 376. Conan vs. Colbert over who made Mike Huckabee. This could turn into a rich cache of comedy gold. "I didn't shoot him in the heart; I shot him in the major artery that leads to the heart!"
  21. Packers NFC Championship press release I can't find a link for the Giants one right now. Guess their PR department is at as much a loss for words at Elisha's play this offseason as the rest of us.
  22. Chargers AFC Championship press release Patriots AFC Championship press release A fun way to kill some time reading these over and getting all the little trivia and nuggets of info. Both links go to PDF files, BTW.
  23. George Wilson Won an NFL Championship with the Lions in his first year of coaching in 1957, then posted 4 winning records over the next 11 seasons, including a pitiful final four years with the Dolphins (a .278 winning percentage). Q: Name (and make a case for) someone you believe should be in a Hall of Fame that has nearly no chance of making it in reality.
  24. I've often compared Phil Mickelson's 2004 Masters win to title win at Wrestlemania 20, or the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series that year. I'd say any of those are applicable, especially the latter. My question: I'll never look down my nose at any fan of it, but aren't UFC and MMA pretty barbaric? It's not technically a question, but talk me out of that; Is boxing barbaric? Is wrestling barbaric? Is judo barbaric? Maybe the early days, when it was just two guys thrown in there until one quits or is KOed with no time limit or rounds, but there are plenty of safety measures taken to protect the fighters. It's no Sunday picnic, but it certainly isn't barbaric.
  25. Not if all we have is her allegation. And this "been intimate since 1997" thing is totally out of left field; you'd think with his celebrity we'd have heard something about her by now. At least we have our "The media is too lazy to do some work and break down the game, so we'll just jump on this" story of the week (or three).
