EDIT: James Baker probably knows the difference between a thread on him and an EV thread oops

It wouldn't surprise me if James Baker was an asshole.

File this under "polls to make you start drinking": Unless the undecided voters (that vote) don't break for Kerry by at least a majority (which would be weird), then a draw isn't that great for the President. Especially compared to a four point lead. I wish that John Kerry wins this election in just a night. I'd prefer getting to sleep by 1am on election night. (although, I think I went to bed at 1am in 2000, that whole thing is something I don't want to repeat, ever)

http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/003036.html If you take polls too seriously.. you'll probably start drinking. Never fall for a poll until you know the Party ID breakdown. and there's this.. Either way.. it's close. Or a conspiracy (oh yeah.. Nader will not get 1%, if you want more details, ask)

Ain't no party like a TSA party!

The TSA is under the Department of Homeland Security (as of 2003) and it was created in November 2001 but that doesn't mean you're wrong on that second comment. -

Teresa Heinz Kerry releases income taxes
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
hmm.. you did ignore something.. I'd say in other news.. you don't have to pay taxes on tax exempt bonds. I guess government bonds operate out of tax shelters now. I guess our state bonds now work out of the Cayman Islands. And you ignore my point: She has every right in the world to shield her money from taxes. It just makes her and John insufferable hypocrites for decrying the rich not paying "their fair share" when they, in fact, don't pay their fair share. If you want the rich to pay "their fair share", then don't protect your income. How much income would Teresa Heinz Kerry have without those Government Bonds? 2.2 million dollars. What rate did she pay on that $2.2 million dollars? 34.9% You seem to think that there's a magic power that Teresa holds in which she just says money is tax exempt due to bonds. That $2.7M came from bonds, in which she did not have to pay taxes. Here's some more info on tax-exempt bonds: http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:fiSYk...empt+bond&hl=en http://www.investorwords.com/4897/tax_exempt_bond.html But I guess THK should pay taxes on tax-exempt bonds too. It's not like they wouldn't refund her the money. So to prove her point. She should overpay her taxes. And if she did that, they would give her a refund. Wow.. that would really be meaningful Nope --- pay the "fair share" on the $5M she made. It's pretty freaking pointless to pay taxes on tax-exempt bonds. The Government will still give her a refund if she paid 940K (a 34.9% rate) on a tax-exempt bond. If you can find something where either THK or John Kerry claimed tax-exempt bonds are a loophole. Go find it. http://www.law.upenn.edu/fac/dshakow/fedtax/class38.htm Then again.. I'd imagine you already know a lot about tax-exempt bonds. Yep.. with the hidden tax-exempt bond loophole that millions know about. *golf clap* I think it's STUNNING that Grover Norquist was wrong on this. That wasn't from Grover http://www.atr.org/pressreleases/2004/pr-k...axes-9-7-04.htm No.. it wasn't from Grover at all. Just from his group. Which issued a press release. Which quoted him. It's different. #1 - John and Teresa file seperate returns. #2 - If you combine their taxable incomes, they paid at a rate of 33.7% #2b - But if you combine their total income and divide it by their taxes, ignoring the amount of tax-exempt stuff, they paid at a 16.3% rate. Higher than Norquist claims. #2c - Kerry paid 90,575 on an income of 346,664, a rate of 26.7% -
If Thune loses and Daschle is DQed, the spot would be filled by a person chosen by the Governor of South Dakota. who is a Republican, who would probably appoint Thune

RNC sends a 'cease & desist' to Rock the Vote
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
Exactly, I don't believe you ought to need to be aware of the issues and the positions to vote. It's simply a constitutionally protected right, like the right to bear arms. People should vote simply because they can and want to, just like why people say they should be able to own certain types of guns simply because they can and want to. JOTW, you're dealing with people who go as far as advocating a literacy test. Ya know.. the literacy tests that worked back in the South. Well.. by worked, I mean that the literacy test was meant to keep minorities (thought of as uninformed idiots) and poor white people from being able to vote. Nothing like bringing it back. This time, they may apply the same standards too. Ok.. that might be unlikely. Lord forbid you let anybody who dares listen to music you dislike into the politicial process. And tax them too, even if you won't let them vote. -
So, if Daschle wins, Thune will try to claim that he's no longer a resident of the state.. So, if he can't win with the voters, he'll try to win on a technicality? Why not bring it up now? It's relevant, and it matters, right? if it's relevant, then wouldn't the voters not like Daschle for doing that? wouldn't they be more inclined not to vote for him? But.. I guess that in a horserace. John Thune is going to hold back, which is always a winning tactic, especially when dealing with a relevant issue

Yeah.. I found it on 2 sites on a Google news search (both are the same Talon news story). But it was posted on NRO in September of 2003. For something proclaimed relevant. It's not really going anywhere.

I'm in the middle of 1 competitive state race, and a House and Senate race with both sides doing ads The Governor's race is between 33 year old Matt Blunt ®, who is the Secretary of State and Claire McCaskill (D), the State Auditor, who beat Governor Bob Holden back in August. There's ads for Blunt which talk about how McCaskill has done stuff that has sent jobs and people to Kansas while declaring "She should run for Governor of Kansas". The State Dems have an ad with a Matt Blunt 'job interview' (seen here: http://www.missouridems.org ) The Senate race is between Kit Bond ®, who is on his way to re-election and Nancy Farmer. Nancy's done two ads so far. One with a Kit Bond bobblehead doll. The House Race is between Emanuel Cleaver (D), former Mayor of Kansas City, and Jeanne Patterson ®, who has money and is making her first run for office. Patterson was the CEO, I think, of a corporation named Cerner. She went negative on Cleaver, claiming he raised taxes (which technically he was unable to do as Mayor) and bringing up some other stuff. Cleaver had ads which claimed Cerner was outsourcing and claiming that "money can't buy experience". The Cleaver/Patterson debate had Cleaver ask Patterson how a bill becomes a law. So yes.. she is running for Congress, and she was unable to correctly explain how a bill becomes a law. I guess she expects "on the job training" in the House. But Patterson/Cleaver won't be close. Missouri politics: "It's not that exciting" how about in your states?

Laws or issues that you support or want adopted
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
One law I want to mess with is the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. They divide all regulated substances into five categories. Marijuana is Schedule I Cocaine is Schedule II Meth is Schedule II Think about that -
In 2002, Kerry was the first Massachusetts Senator to ever come up for re-election without major party opposition, he won by an 80%-18% margin He did beat Bill Weld by a 52%-45% margin (almost 200,000 votes) in 1996 My mistake... thought the Weld election was in 2002 and not in 1996. No real huge deal. Weld sorta disappeared after 1997 though. When Jesse Helms held up his nomination to be Ambassador to Mexico.

RNC sends a 'cease & desist' to Rock the Vote
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
Should they pay their taxes too? I'd imagine that if they don't get representation and all, then they shouldn't face taxation. One flaw with all that is that there's no real standard to eliminate "morons" from the voting rolls. Considering that literacy tests and poll taxes are unconstitutional and all the other subjective stuff. I'd imagine even you'd concede that there's good reasons to be undecided. Like trying to figure out who the better representative would be. Or if you have some issues you care about, but both candidates favor something you like, while being against other things you like. As for having a reason to vote. A lot of people just really don't care. It'll stay that way for a long time. Although i'm in favor of moving election days to a Saturday, or having a holiday for the elections (while still having them on Tuesdays). But those are cosmetic changes. -

My philosophy is "If you're not voting, they're not listening" What's wrong with people choosing who represents them? I guess because they listen to the wrong music, they shouldn't be allowed to vote. Okay Mike.. -

Part of a conspiracy, to avoid attention from her non-taxpaying ways! http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=38258 I'm sure there'll be something else to release soon. "Mrs. Kerry.. what is your shoe size?" "Why do you want to hide this info?" "Teresa, are you really 66?" "Release your birth certificate!"
