My choice is the KC station 96.5. Basically, it's alternative. That's one way to put it. But here's their top 7 for tonight plus there's some other really good stuff. (this topic may apply to more than just music though) How about you all?

Bush unleashes the "Wolves" on Kerry
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
I mentioned that. It was 1984. And the Bear ad topped this ad. The Bear ad didn't mention anybody by name and it didn't have to, the messege got out. This ad took the concept of an animal, removed what made it work (the subtle messege), and put it out. -

Here's a video of the incident: http://homepage.mac.com/njenson/movies/coulter.html that wasn't even close. Bad technique by the throwers. -
Bush unleashes the "Wolves" on Kerry

The left is full of Wolf-appeasers: TPM: Atrios: Ezra Klein: The Wildlife Defense Fund ( http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041022/dcf047_1.html ): It's a horde of pro-Wolf posters. Bush will eliminate the evil wolf. Somehow. that caption sorta makes the photo for me. but this ad will get the Three Little Pigs to endorse Bush for re-election -
See: Florida 2000 U.S. Presidential Election. See: Chicago, Illinois is more accurate. or The Valley, Texas, circa 1948 (LBJ was such a bastard ) SAY THAT TO MY FACE, YA LITTLE PISSANT MIZZURA BOY~!!! I find it odd that my grandparents (who will vote for Kerry) also voted for Barry Goldwater. And yeah.. i'll say that to LBJ's face, because he's dead. ("Lyndon Johnson Means of Ascent" goes into the 1948 election. Including his 4195 to 38 win in Duval county and all that fun vote fraud)

Eh yoo.. I am da govenuh of Callifornia.. and I vill be re-elected too. Ha Ha Ha -
http://www.darnews.com/articles/2004/10/22/news/news5.txt I will admit that the system in Missouri is very disorganized (But if you like the job Matt Blunt's done with our elections, you can get him elected Governor!).. of course, a vast vast majority of people will vote once. But this state could really use a better system of voter registration. Or any system for some of these things. Now, if more people vote than live in counties, then the lawyers will swarm on the state. Unless our electoral votes end up being irrelevant.

I've heard that there is cable TV in Prison. Now, is this a huge package of cable, or specific channels? (Somebody could know this without having been in Prison) I can see the point in the arguments that there shouldn't be cable in prison but I'm not exactly on that side. My idea is a bit different.. Here's the channels that could be included on "Prison Cable": PBS History Channel CNBC MSNBC Fox News CNN The Weather Channel The Travel Channel Discovery Channel The Learning Channel Court TV AMC TCM Lifetime CSPAN CSPAN2 There might be a channel or two to add. But, I feel that leaves out controversial channels and a lot of sports/entertainment channels (ESPN) I'd also restrict the general feed at times to discourage just watching TV and some prisoners wouldn't get the privilege. But, I think that lineup is probably one of the more boring possible lineups. But that probably makes me "weak" on Crime. Of course the number one problem is that people who go to prison have a tendancy to go back to prison. Is there much of a job skills program there? Even if such a thing is a catch 22 since even with the skills, having a record restricts your opportunities. So the idea has some flaws. Some people are just fucked up in the head. I'm also intrigued by the prison system in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey which made Chess the main activity instead of stuff like Weightlifting. Having more chess than weightlifting and basketball is a generally good idea. Another thought of mine involving prisons involves drug offenders. That can be covered somewhere else too. Basically a lot of stuff i've heard claims that there's a lot of drug offenders in jail, and supposedly that nudges violent offenders out of jail. Still.. more chess please. And more Lifetime. (I'd imagine no prisoner will want to watch Lifetime)

Allawi, being a Prime Minister, won't be elected to that post directly. If he were running for the ceremonial title of President, then he would have to be elected. But then again, the President of Iraq hasn't come to America and I'm pretty sure that the Presidency of Iraq is very weak. Allawi could remain prime minister. But the party structure in Iraq is sorta unknown now.

Jesse the Body endorses John Kerry
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
I'd say the reason he was elected was due to being an alternative. Granted, that alternative probably didn't work out too well. As for him not running. He probably wouldn't have won re-election but he would have finished strong. So, how will go you about finding a standard for "Dumb". I'm sure that it'd be the same standard and not biased. Despite the history of these tests not being "fair and balanced" and all. And I am not worrying at all. To suggest I would not pass a test on knowing what's happening in politics suggests either extreme dislike for me on your part, extreme stupidity or extreme ignorance. -
And I agree with Mike on marijuana, prostitution and gambling. Although, I guess i'm skeptical on the legalization of Marijuana since there'd be precedent to allow for the Feds to withhold funds from states for their drug laws. But this country has a confused drug policy. Marijuana is Schedule I, Cocaine and Meth are Schedule II. One piece of evidence on the ass-backwardsness of the DEA. Anybody have any idea on the usual length of time that drug offenders spend in jail? Because most violent offenders don't serve much more than half their sentences. Drug offenders might spend more than half their time in jail. It might be deceptive to characterize marijuana legalization as "Liberal", unless we can admit that's something that most Democrats are "Conservative" on. I consider it a Libertarian sort of stance. If the drug has no potential of causing violent crime (such as the more serious drugs or date rape drugs) then the people who have it shouldn't be spending their time in jail. As for Prostitution.. in most places where it's legal, they register brothels and everything, to make sure it's safe as possible. And as for Gambling.. the legalization doesn't seem like such a big issue in Missouri. We have riverboats and everything. Change is not going to just happen due to a law. It happens on a personal level. It involves responsibility. That also covers my Abortion stance. I don't like the idea, the Government shouldn't ban it, people should be responsible with their own sex lives and if they were, then abortions would go down. I think there's a thread to go over this stuff. But I might still be a Liberal (technically)

Bush unleashes the "Wolves" on Kerry

Continually today's ad theme of "Animals" here's the latest from the DNC - "Eagle" http://www.democrats.org/ I wouldn't mind if the remaining ads of this election involved comparisons to animals. "The ant works hard.. but.." *ant is squashed* "Under tax hikes, his hope of working is gone, for his job is gone, and he is left in pain" "The Deer runs fast, looks good, and when in danger, it freezes. Vote for capable leadership" "Some say a group of killer bees is coming for us, some say they stopped their rise. Isn't it best to be strong, if the bees come for us?" "Some animals don't do anything productive. So do some humans. But we give welfare to the humans. End the double standard. End Welfare Now!" Aww yeah.. -
Jesse the Body endorses John Kerry
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
Yes. Exceptionally stupid. 16% in 2002 (for Independence Party candidate Tim Penny) 37% in 1998 I guess the dumb people in Minnesota have decided to unite. (But, Ventura's ads in 1998 were brilliant) Ventura and most of members of the party are socially liberal and economic conservatives. Which are signs of stupidity. Of course. Granted, I don't know if Jesse (or his body double) will do much in Minnesota. Any other laws or amendments that you want to repeal to make sure that only the people smart enough for you vote? I know you're going to axe the Poll Tax amendment (which also covers literacy tests) and I'd imagine portions of the Voting Rights Act will go too. If the tests you put up to make really dumb people unable to vote disqualified you from voting, how would that make you feel? just a hypothetical -

Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
So, the people in Minnesota, who were in the Independence Party, who would have considered sitting out of this election but may be swayed by Ventura are dumb? Maybe they should recieve a Literacy test too, and then you can find a way to disqualify them. And yes.. that might be a body double -
http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3582.html?cat=1 It's nice to see that he's changed from "I won't vote" (which I think was part of his non-endorsement) to this. Say what you will about his one term. But now he's with the good guys. (ha, this is what you call taunting) Now the only thing Jesse can do to confuse me is running on his own. But, I don't think he'd pull off anything close to what he did in Minnesota (which was amazing) although.. that might be Jesse's body double. Or that picture just sucks. (and another article, which is from the Miami Herald)

The ad is here: http://www.georgewbush.com/ There's claims that this is inspired by Reagan's Bear ad. Then again, the Bear ad still whoops the Wolves ad. "Wolves, they're everywhere, and John Kerry wants them to eat your children"

The upcoming Fark headline for this seems clever, if you know what it means -
Michael Moore does rule at finding "stock" footage for his movies. Other than that.. he's doing what we call 'atonement' for his previous Nader support

a few turnout-related questions #1) Do you believe there really 4 million evangelical voters who stayed home in 2000? It's possible. Although I think a lot of those 4 million live in safe Bush states such as Texas, Utah and so on. States such as Oklahoma only had 55% of registered voters show up in 2000. #2) Will the marriage "protection" amendments in several states deliver some of those voters? Maybe. But, a lot of those amendments will pass easily. An amendment in Oklahoma is leading by 50 points. Although people will show up to vote for Tom Coburn, Brad Carson or a woman who says the CIA put a chip in her head. But i'm pretty sure Alabama will repeal the parts of their constitution relating to school segregation and the poll tax, no matter ceremonial that vote will be. And Alaska could legalize Marijuana, but it'd have the same effect to everyday life as the Alabama amendment.

I don't see a problem with what Israel is doing and I don't see peace in the Middle East happening anytime soon

this ties in for Kerry and Florida: via the Washington Post What's the turnout rate for Senior Citizens? 70 or 80 percent? I'd imagine the efforts to get them out will be vastly expanded this year. And those don't sound like the actions of a scared group. But the actions of a group which is angry and willing to help defeat Bush. One turnout estimate is 121 million. That would be 17 million higher than 1992 and 2000. Either way.. the turnout of 104 million will be surpassed this November. a link on the 121 million estimate: http://www.mydd.com/story/2004/10/21/171752/65#readmore
