Pew has a 7 point swing on RV (from 48-41 Bush to 45-45) and a 5 point swing in LV (from 49-44 Bush to 47-47) http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=229

Pat Robertson: "I warned Bush on Iraq"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
it's a matter of what will get less traction. Anything can play into anybody's hands. But, it takes some sort of traction for it to be worth anything to people who aren't total partisans. there's ways to handle this and be likeable, and ways to handle this and look stubborn Schieffer's questions were wedge-a-riffic.. AWB, Abortion, Affirmative Action definately a change of pace from the usual, mostly relevant, Debate questions -
Pat Robertson: "I warned Bush on Iraq"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
Basically, the current route, which plays into the Dems hands is better than the alternative? It'll be all about the middle and which actions are more acceptable. I noted my skepticism on Pat It seems they always had that Miss America, the one guy and Pat's son on most of the time instead of Pat. -
Pat Robertson: "I warned Bush on Iraq"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
well.. Pat said that stuff about the blowout on his own show. then again.. Pat didn't mention if God was specific on who would win. Ha. -
(random Pat image) http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/19/...iraq/index.html Pat's record of prediction is pretty lousy. Such as with Hurricanes in Florida (a bit early) or Pat predicting that Bush would win in a 'blowout' ( http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,107258,00.html ) or the fact that Pat had to have surgery for his prostate cancer despite his ability to sense God healing people. Although predicting a war will be messy isn't too hard. But unless Pat is either misquoting Bush, vengeful against Bush for some reason or just being foolish.. the casualty quote was foolish (if it's true). Pat is capable of using an unintentionally foolish quote. (I would expect that Bush probably said something like "there won't be a problem, which is less stupid) Then again.. I'd rather have Bush be President than Pat. If that's really a compliment to anybody. The other day, I realized that Pat hadn't said anything really stupid lately. But God heard me, and Pat fulfilled one of his duties. (random question: Does Pat still show up on the 700 club a lot? I used to watch the show for entertainment a few years ago)

Iranian security council leader endorses Bush
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
It's possible to state concern about something and not admit being at fault. Sorta like how Southern states were against those who were for civil rights, but they didn't admit that they were depriving African-Americans of civil rights If it makes you feel any better, Bush's campaign declined the endorsement. http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content=news&cat=8&id=316095 file that under "Duh" -

You're really one to critique others for lacking sources. http://www.newsday.com/news/politics/wire/...itics-headlines http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=2451563 http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentSe...ol=968705899037 http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2...19/174311.shtml http://www.boston.com/news/politics/presid...ment_from_iran/ http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...an_us_elections -
I've seen this story reported on virtually all of the networks - not just on Drudge. it was posted on Drudge's site (instead of being linked) and I don't remember any bet, but maybe that's why I have 500 bucks.

Cheney: "Terrorists May Bomb U.S. Cities"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
ranting how one side has a double standard is a bit narrow minded. Some of us on the left have double standards. Some more than others. Having a double standard is human nature. Although when it's excessive, I can see the objections. It's sorta like bashing just one side for lying. Both sides twist the truth. Although not to the same degree. The pure truth is too much for a lot of people to handle. They want sugar, not salt. -
Cheney: "Terrorists May Bomb U.S. Cities"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
The part involving the world is in the past tense, meaning, after the event. The present tense part was in making the case to your country. Basically, if you strike pre-emptively, make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. I don't think the American Government is as trusted in the world as we were in 2000. To have others in the world trust our word doesn't mean we have to be weak. It's about credible leadership. (and yes, Kerry can speak French, which means he can tell the French off in their own tongue if he has to. Ha) -
Cheney: "Terrorists May Bomb U.S. Cities"
Rob E Dangerously replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Current Events
this would be more entertaining if Bush made Marv Albert his running mate in 2000. "The biggest threat we face now as a nation is the possibility of terrorists ending up in the middle of one of our cities with deadlier weapons than have ever before been used against us - biological agents or a nuclear weapon or a chemical weapon of some kind to be able to threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans, That's the ultimate threat. For us to have a strategy that's capable of defeating that threat, you've got to get your mind around that concept. YES!" -
these don't exactly top the September comments. we'll see what happens

Hmmm... it appears there's somebody who values social issues over foreign policy. (or they're still Oliver North fans) Has the Iron Sheik endorsed a candidate yet?

Do you care to point out a single case in this country where one candidate on the ballot died, was elected, and the second place candidate was then given the seat? When it comes to a precedent for either an appointment or a new election, there's more precedent for that. Another example: Gladys Spellman had a heart attack days before the election and she went into a coma. She was re-elected and then in February 1981, the House decided to remove her due to her illness (since she was still in a coma) and then they called an election. As for fighting being a headache.. well, it would be a huge headache. You already had a majority of voters who voted for Mel Carnahan, and then you'd have Ashcroft supporters who wouldn't be for such actions either. Which means Ashcroft's career would be ruined. As well, the only time to really sue to get Carnahan off of the ballot would have been before the election. But, that wouldn't go over well either. Plus, state law says that he had to remain on the ballot. So you either go for him being on the ballot, or for a pissed off populace voting for his widow and sending you to the unemployment line for trying to get Mel off of the ballot. These are some of the states which had closer Presidential races in 2000 than Missouri (Missouri's margin was 78,786 votes or 3.34 percent between Bush and Gore Arkansas (50,172 votes, 5.44%) - Bush Iowa (4,144, 0.31%) - Gore Minnesota (58,607, 2.40%) - Gore Nevada (21,597, 3.55%) - Bush New Hampshire (7,211, 1.27%) - Bush New Mexico (366 votes, 0.06%) - Gore Oregon (6,765, 0.44%) - Gore Wisconsin (5,708, 0.22%) - Gore If Florida had been normal. I doubt the lawyers would be going to St. Louis first. Do you have any more info on who this non-existant person was? (or was claimed to be) 11/8/2000 (Post-Dispatch) with the coverup I'd say that the process of how the election was conducted in St. Louis was pretty damned bad. Post-Dispatch, 1/13/01 Basically, the operation was run in a lousy matter. If Miss Hanaway's claims are true, then heads needed to roll. If you are working in a polling place on Election Day. You get your stuff ready by 6am. Anything less is just negligence. Any proof of this? Articles to be filed somewhere in this discussion: St. Louis Post Dispatch, 9/25/2004 Post-Dispatch, 7/26/01 Post-Dispatch, 7/29/01 Post-Dispatch, 11/6/2001 Post-Dispatch, 11/8/2000 and this is coming from a KC native who is pulling for the Astros to go to the World Series
