  1. I'm his constituent and I have no reason to support him and i must say, the Lieberman on the presidential trail is a much different one than I know as Senator from Connecticut Fair enough. It's tough to be a sitting senator and run for president at the same time since your priorities become divided and uneven. I still think he would have made a good president.
  2. That's an interesting response. Is it because the show's already spoiled for you? I'll probably go ahead and order it. Anyone else want to weigh in with non spoiler opinions?
  3. Already covered here: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=49498 And here: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=49552 Just saying because I don't feel like retyping my responses/defenses of Joe.
  4. I agree, as a state with a late primary I feel like I'm getting screwed in the choice department. My top 2 candidates, Lieberman and Gephart going in to primary season are not even going to be around to vote for when my primary comes around. Theoretically what if we had given them a large number of votes? Perhaps then, they wouldn't have dropped out on account of a few states not supporting them. I think there should be a national primary, where, say the top 4 vote getters remain. Then they can campaign some more for a few weeks until a second national primary is held with the final four (and from those results the delegates are chosen). I think that would be a lot more fair to the later states, and to candidates that felt forced out because of lack of support early.
  5. No, you didn't miss it, it's on March 2nd I believe. Now that Joe has dropped out, I'm not going to bother getting an absentee ballot so I can vote from school...
  6. We need Queer Eye for the straight Republican. "Red is totally last year's alert color, Fusia is SO in. It projects terror but at the same time is FABULOUS!"
  7. Well, besides being the only Democrat to continue to support the war on Iraq, propose a middle class tax cut, not run from religion and faith based programs but embrace them, and his friendly personality and sense of humor. But I'm glad you have some common sense and can see through the "OMG HE'S GOING TO BAN VIDEO GAMES~!!!!" crap.
  8. Yes, we know Joe has been vocal in the past about violence and sexuality portrayed in the media. There is not one candidate who will disagree with this position, Joe simply has the convictions and the balls to stand up and make his views be known. It's not like it's the only thing he stands for, and I'm sure you can find something about EVERY candidate that you don't agree with, but I wish people wouldn't ignore all his other qualities just because they're afraid his first act as president will be to magically take away their wrestling and video games. We all know the media is way too powerful, and there are so many other more important things the president needs to attend to, so really it's just talk and pandering. Anyway, it's a moot point now.
  9. That was the Democrats best hope right there. A candidate that could match Bush on defense and foreign policy and match and possibily surpass his morals and religious dedication. The only candidate that proposed a sweeping middle class tax cut to replace Bush's current model rather than simply repealing them and raising taxes. He surpasses Bush by being strong on the enviornment, gun control, woman's rights and civil unions. A man with expirience in politics, a likeable personality and the demeanor and composure to serve as President. Instead of rallying behind a moderate, they are left with a personalityless liberal Massachusetts senator, an inexpirienced filthy rich trial lawyer, a bumbling former general with no distinguishable positions and a fading left wing ideologue with anger issues. Oh and Al Sharpton. And the little hippy guy. Maybe in 08 the Demos will remember their centrist base that more closely matches the populus...until then, looks like it's Bush in 04...
  10. Joe was very gracious in defeat going out of his way to give props to the other candidates. A great guy, you can disagree with his positions but you can't help but love him as a person. It's really too bad the Democratic party decided to go in a more liberal and less moderate direction. Perhaps in 2008 things will be different. Well, I guess I won't be voting in the MD primary, and that likely ends my support of a Democratic candidate...
  11. Joe took second in Delaware! Ok, a very distant second...but second none the less!
  12. You're absolutely right, the government is sending itself deadly chemicals (wink wink ) in order to "Scare" the American public into thinking that we're at risk for terror attacks (we know better ) so everyone feels forced to vote for Bush to stay safe. I'm glad you've seen through these propogandist tactics...
  13. From the Observer site... --The injuries to Randy Couture were not nearly as bad as indicated yesterday morning. He ended up just taking stitches in his eye, three in the upper eyelid and five in the upper eyelid. He also had a retina abrasion and other minor problems with the eye pupil that are not expected to be long lasting. He'll need to get the stitches out, as well as his eyes dilated, but his career is not in jeopardy, and he may be back training in ten days to two weeks. A Couture vs. Vitor Belfort rematch looks to be just about a sure thing. Good news
  14. So...for those who read about the show, how was it? PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!! I would have read spoilers if I wanted to know who won and how. Most of you seem pretty down on the show, but even after the deflated ending of the UFC show, the overall show itself has me hungry for more MMA and seriously considering ordering the Pride show. So was the show good or bad?
  15. Ridiculous. Alice In Chains are dead. Buried. Gone. I love the band, one of my top 3 only behind Metallica and Maiden but it's pathetic that the record companies keep releasing these greatest hits albums with nothing new on them. I have all 3 albums and both EPs, both live albums, Best Of The Box and Music Bank. And that's all you need. There's nothing on this thing (or the greatest hits they released a couple years ago) thats not already on the albums or Music Bank. I'd reccomend to any AIC fans that are aching for some new Chains, to get Jerry Cantrell's recent album Degradation Trip (try to get the 2 disk Vol. 1 and 2 version which has more songs). It's freakin' awesome and it's basically Chains without Layne on vocals (and Jerry sounds creepily identicle to him on some songs making you swear Layne is still around recording). I can't wait for Jerry's next album whenever it comes out because this is seriously great stuff and totally satisfies the need for new AIC songs, without the ripoff of buying the same exact songs over and over again...
  16. Ok, it's official: This is now the worst thread ever.
  17. eh, still not as weird as this: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=49133
  18. From today's Observer update, this doesn't sound good... --In last night's UFC main event, the grazing punch by Vitor Belfort on Randy Couture went completely through his eyelid and exposed the eyeball. Couture underwent surgery last night at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and as of last report, the injuries were believed to be career threatening. We will have an update on him tonight on the show

    Question

Oh boy, this is going to become one of THOSE threads...
  20. I'm a new fan too (started at UFC 43 in June), but basically Tito was the champ, Chuck was the dominating top contender and because of "contract disputes" Tito would never agree to fight Chuck, which everyone took as Tito ducking him and being afraid. So while Tito was on sabbaticle, Chuck and Randy was signed to crown an interim champ, with the winner to face Tito and unify the belts. In a pretty big upset Randy dominated Chuck to win the interim belt. Tito was then more eager to fight now that Chuck was eliminated from the equation thinking he could beat the old man Couture easily, he got owned and literally spanked as he lost his title official to Randy Couture. Now, finally both coming off losses to Couture, Ortiz and Chuck was signed, with the winner facing the winner of Couture/Belfort, and if we don't get the rematch at the next show, it will be Belfort for the title. Hope I'm correct in summing it up.
  21. Wow. Sure didn't see THAT coming. Let me start off by saying, before the main event the show was EXCELLENT, which is why it kills me that the main event had to go down like that, because every fight was tremendous and with a proper main event this could have been the perfect show. Question though, why doesn't UFC have a rule where the title can't change hands on a doctor stoppage? It would make more sense, like in wrestling with a DQ. It doesn't seem right that the champion should lose his title when something like that goes down. It should go down as a loss but he should keep the title until a rematch. Anyway, I'm happy for Vitor but he obviously was not happy winning the belt like that. Hopefully Randy is ok. It was heart wrenchingly dsiappointing to have the match stopped but it was the right call, Randy's eye didn't look good. Another question, they were stressing how they were going to fight a rematch at the next possible conveniance. Is it possible for them to add it to UFC 47: It's On? It would make the show even more stacked, and after that, technically the winner of Chuck/Tito gets Vitor which would be incredibily unfair to Randy if the rematch is delayed for that long. As for the rest of the show, as I said, it was excellent. I've already become a Lee Murray mark and found it hilarious after all the hype about his brawling skills that he throws not one punch and gets a sumbission with an armbar/triangle. Can't wait to see this guy back, hopefully he'll knock Tito into his place soon. Mir/Simms was so awesome. It's like a pro wrestling stroyline only real fighting. Oh, and hey Goldberg was there! Simms giving the thumbs up and then the finger when Mir was trying to submit him was awesome. The guy truly is a monster who can take a beating. But those knockout shots by Mir were brutal! Simms, you just got knocked the fuck out! Both guys looked exausted after, truly a war of attrition. What can I say about Bj Penn? I have never seen either of these guys before, but of course had read a lot about how Hughes is so dominant and the best fighter in the world, and when BJ choked him out I was literally jumping up on my couch screaming "oh my god!" I don't think anyone saw that coming. And his celebration after, how can you not love that little guy? And how can anyone not want to see Chuck and Tito go at it right now? Tito is such a little bitch, I can't wait to see him get his head knocked off. Forgot his name off the top of my head, but that was a great showing from Penn's trainer who totally dominated Newton. Kudos to Newton for hanging in there and making it interesting until the end, but the other guy was simply dominating. Just an awesome night so far, and this new MMA fan was quickly becoming an MMA mark, and after all the hype, the intensity, we get the main event stopped seconds in due to a dangerous eye poke. And Vitor wins the title, which seems very wrong, as I said there should be a rule disallowing the title to change hands in such circumstances. I didn't doubt Vitor would pull it off anyway, but you know he doesn't want it like that, hopefully Randy is ok and they can get this fight signed again for the next show. A night just short of perfect...
  22. He served in Vietnam!
  23. Just as a pre-emptive warning that "fanboy" is actually a "fangirl" who claims to work high up in the Bush administration and she is likely to make a fool of you if you call her out. Just a friendly warning!
  24. Here's an update from Jason Powell of the Pro Wrestling Torch (www.pwtorch.com) with quotes from Urlacher: "Meanwhile, Urlacher defended his participation. "I know a lot about wrestling, and it's a whole different thing than what we do in football,'' Urlacher said. "So I'm going to do what they tell me to do, try not to get anyone hurt or get myself hurt, and have a good time... 'I don't think there is (anything in the contract that forbids him from wrestling). 'I'm not doing anything that can get myself hurt, so they're probably not going to be too mad.'' Former Bear Jimbo Covert, who took part in the WrestleMania II battle royal at the same time he was under contract to the Bears, down played the possibility of suffering an injury in a wrestling ring. "There was no way you could get hurt,'' Covert said. ''It was so well-rehearsed, and there were mats everywhere. The agreement was I had to be out in the first five minutes. It ended up being like 25 seconds.''
