WWF Survivor Series 1991 & This Tuesday In Texas
DrVenkman PhD replied to KingPK's topic in WWE Multimedia
I was trying to think of the logistics of a PPV being set up in just 6 days and how it must have been arranged in advance with the cable companies. I'm wondering if there were any spoilers in ads or what have you. Based on the October 7, 1991 Observer (so let's say as of October 2nd) the PPV was just announced internally. Apparently it was announced as a result of 'out of nowhere' financial problems. Also, because the shows are so closely linked (with this PPV essentially being a $30 ad for a $10 PPV) and 24/7 is nice enough to show them back to back, AND we've already done a lot of This Tuesday in Texas talk, consider this thread a combination of both shows. Edit: Had I kept reading before mentioning it... That price was lowered when it became a 2 hour show, right? Maybe I'm just confused with old TNA PPVs. I emember back in the early 90s we used to get a magazine with a programming guide for The Movie Network and there was always a section advertising upcoming PPVs. That's how I found out Warrior vs. Savage was the SummerSlam 92 main event so I was curious if such a thing happen for this show in 1991, but it looks like Vince had his bases covered. Edit 2: Just read something on Google groups from good ol Herb Kunze, much closer to the event, confirming prices of the era. It also mentioned how the December 6th date (which I didn't even catch) that was originally reported was incorrect. -
WWE Raw - November 17, 2008

I suspect it's because I've been playing a lot of SvR 09, but Cole was REALLY sounding like his video game self on Raw, just randomly throwing out information about the people in the ring. The positive to that is it seemed they were trying to give out a lot of history notes about characters and feuds. Taking time to do things like this is a good way to retain new viewers (hint hint, other wrestling company), though with their 2.9 rating it's not like they had any. -
Maybe you thought Vince McMahon was Steve Austin.

But there are THREE elimination matches Marv-o. Though it is funny that as much as I love the Survivor Series concept, in the past 3 years I found 2005 and 2007 (with only one elimination match) better than 2006 (with 2 bad ones and 1 that was awesome on paper and was a squash match). -
No one answered Psycho Penguin but this was indeed a taped show (taped with Raw last night). So from Matt mentioning Mr. Electricity, I take it they mentioned the late Mr. Electricity Steve Regal?

I liked the . That was nice. I also apparently need to pay better attention to things as I didn't even realize the organization was called Quantum. I think I did hear them say it and ignored it, because I badly wanted the group to be called SPECTRE. I recall M being cut-off as she was about to say the group's name.

Ron Howard was my next pick I was actually planning on picking him in round 7 but that was when I thought I better grab Freddy Quimby.

The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread

Congratulations on being born. Nobody does it better. Nobody does it half as good as you. -
Guy: Greetings, good men. Might I trouble you for a drink? Moe: Oh, get out of here, Homer. Guy: Homer? Who is Homer? My name is Guy Incognito. [he gets beaten up and tossed out, unconscious] Homer: [walks up, looks at Guy] [gasps] Oh my God! This man is my exact double. [gasps] Oh my God! That dog has a puffy tail! [he chases it, giggling] Here, Puff! Here, Puff! This was the pick Officer Lou caused me to pick. Lou reminded me of "Uosdwis R. Dewoh", but that's not a real character. Then I realized Guy Incognito is.

You can watch Hulu from the UK?

Hooray extra hours at work. Freddy Quimby CHOW-DAH!

From today's F4W: That probably explains why the match on Raw with Regal was so short. If he ends up on the shelf, what to do with the ECW title? Back to Henry? Jack Swagger?

My Wii did the scary blue light before I left for work tonight. Are they getting the jump on NXE with some exciting new update? Are they reminding me about WiiSpeak vouchers and Wii Tickets? Or something stupid?

I recall reading at one point the whole Netflix movie streaming / movie party deal was for American's only (much the same I often here people talk about downloadable TV shows that just plain don't exist if you're in Canada) but I recently read it's now a "North American" deal. Interesting...

WWE General Discussion-November 2008

I know the answer because Big Dave answered my e-mail about it, but sadly he did so in a WO.com general feedback column. Those things were archived very poorly (they would pretty much vanish from any findable link on the site after 2 weeks with no real archives to look in) and of course they're all gone now. The name "George Cannon" is coming up a lot and that sounds like the name Meltz gave in his answer. Edit: Found the answer Meltz gave me - it sounds like someone copied the deal over on kayfabememories, then someone on DVR then copied just the response to answer someone else asking the question. "There was a lawsuit many years ago by George Cannon who claimed the name Superstars of Wrestling, so for legal reasons, it was changed to WWF Superstars. I don't know if that's the answer, but it makes sense." -
WWE Raw - November 17, 2008

It's too bad the thread is dead, I enjoyed this show. - I liked the opening. It was great to see ol Hacksaw out there, doing his thing. It also served to let use know that Deuce or maybe Domino still has a spot on the Raw roster. At first I thought it was going to be one of those deals where they say "the entire Raw roster" is there but for mystery reasons, Shawn Michaels is exempt (see: Randy Orton and John Cena vs. The Raw Roster) but he was just hidden really well, I guess. The best part of Santino's rap (besides it being awesome) was CM Punk maintaining character and having a disgusted look on his face while Candice and Kelly are right next to him cracking up. Duggan had a big smile too. - Kelly needs to wear those pants as often as possible. That was quite the top Candice was wearing for the PG WWE audience too. I believe the Divas elimination match is the first female elimination match since 1995 - they've all been pointless one fall tag matches since then. Not that this will be given time or be good. Maybe they'll have someone from the face side get injured backstage and re-debut Gail? Unlikely. - Shawn's feud with JBL needs to be done after Survivor Series and a feud with John Morrison must begin. - Overall, I was happy all the heels won. The old theory is you're supposed to buy PPVs to see the faces get their revenge but all too often these days, you get the face wrestlers standing triumphant after winning a match / beating up and chasing their opponent away from the ring. So, thumbs up all around. -
Their current policy is no matches and limited screen exposure. He can beat someone up in an angle and appear in the background, but so far any speaking roles have been removed. There are often commentary gaps where I assume they are talking about Benoit, but sometimes that's fine too - I think the gaps are just talking about an upcoming Benoit match that isn't being shown.

Well, in easy creation you can make the entrances the same if you want, but I guess that option doesn't extend to advanced?

Also, who goes on the internet and makes several comments about Bad Boy without talking about the who's better than Bad Boy? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBOOOOODDDYYYY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AD_BgUE99U

Keith did mention it though. The bullet point of this is it's been mentioned by multiple net recappers. -

1. That match sounds awesome. 2. I assume she will address things such as the show having no GM. -
I also have bad math skills and didn't realize I needed a Round 7 pick too. That works, since I had 4th alternate I wanted to make a real pick. I also think Osama Bin Rotten or Colin Kapow might have been funnier wrestler picks (I particularly find Colina Kapow to be a funny name) but I stand by Iron Yuppie purely based on Homer's line "I hope they kill that Iron Yuppie".
-
I think I have my 8/9/10 picks mapped out with some back-ups floating around in my head. Officer Lou reminded me of a character that has nothing at all to do with Officer Lou (I began thinking of Wiggum quotes, such as promoting and demoting Lou to sergeant, which made me think of another quote for a possible character, than I realized there was an even better choice). I think I peaked with Martin Prince as a "major" character pick too, so I might be safe (though one of them is a bit iffy).

He always was quick to defend that Joey Marella lad from verbal attack though.
