Super Mario World. SMB2 would probably be my favorite though if it was 2 players.

Bravo's The 100 Scariest Movie Moments
chaosrage replied to CBright7831's topic in Television & Film
What good horror movies are coming on tonight? I just did a search for the original Halloween and found nothing. How can Halloween not be coming on any channel today? -
By this logic, there were 3D games before Mario 64, so there wasn't anything special about making Mario in 3D.

I don't know what you're talking about but I'm not talking about that. Probably could be why I didn't mention it. Obviously Nintendo 64 was more revolutionary than Gamecube, no one is going to argue that, but it wasn't the better system. And to make it clear, by that, I mean Gamecube has the better games. Sure, historical impact counts but it is definitely not all that matters. If both games were exactly the same, you might have a point there. However Sunshine and Wind Waker have made so many improvements that it easily makes up for them not being as innovative. Um, I disagree with that and I think almost everyone would. SNES RPGs (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 6, Secret of Mana, Lufia 2, Earthbound) are widely regarded as the best RPGs ever made. Most people consider Zelda: LTTP to be the best Zelda game and Super Mario Bros 3 to be the best Mario. Most people prefer Super Metroid over Metroid Prime. Were you here for the top 30 we had a few months ago? At least half of the games on it had to be from NES and SNES. Nah, I'm not just saying I didn't like them. I've listed crucial flaws in some games and explained why they don't hold up compared to Gamecube's. Rather than just sitting back like someone here and saying "More people liked it, so it must be better." What good does turning this into a popularity contest do to the argument? I wanted to know why you all felt N64 was better than Cube. So please don't bring up Goldeneye's multiplayer if you didn't even like it. Now, see this is really funny. Isn't that what your entire argument consists of? While we would all like to be able to judge every single game by playing it ourselves, it simply isn't possible to play every game out there, so sometimes when a game that we haven't played comes up in an argument, we're forced to use other people's opinions. If the general consensus says that Thousand Year Door is better, then chances are it probably was better. This is backing up my argument that all of the best games on N64 have a match just as good or superior to it on GC, except for Conker, while a whole bunch of must have games on GC have no answer on N64. If you take the the N64, make it better, and then add about 20 more A+ titles to it, you basically have the GC. Tales of Syphonia and other RPGs on GC aren't. For starters, Sunshine and Wind Waker aren't rehashes. The water gun and jetpack totally changes the gameplay mechanics. Also there's a better camera, a different setting, larger stages, and platforming missions. Calling Sunshine a rehash would be like calling Super Mario World a rehash of Super Mario 3. Majora's Mask might be a rehash of Ocarina (even that's debatable really) but the fact that Wind Waker has a different look and you spend the majority of the game sailing around searching for things gives it a completely different feel from the N64 Zeldas and disqualifies it from being a rehash. No Mercy offered the exact same gameplay as before running on the exact same engine as before and even has the same flaws as before such as the AI and slowdown with more than two people. Not only was it a rehash, it was actually a rehash of a rehash. How can you even try to pretend that you care about historical impact when you're putting No Mercy above Eternal Darkness? And? Stop confusing popularity with quality or else soon you'll be saying Crusin USA was a good game. That's sad. These people need to be introduced to wrestling game called Fire Pro. Much more exciting, better controls, better AI, doesn't run in slow motion, and also has about 5 times as many wrestlers and moves. I didn't say it was a genre altering. I just said it was unique, something that No Mercy wasn't. The sanity effects, the Lovecraftish atmosphere, the music, the story being told in chapters allowing you to play as different characters in different time periods. It's unlike Resident Evil or Silent Hill or any other action/horror game I've ever played. If we were comparing the GC to the PS2 and XBox, that last sentence might mean something. But since we're comparing it to the N64, it doesn't amount to much. Are you saying the N64 wouldn't be a better system than it was if it had a Tekken or a Square RPG ported over to it? Would a playstation owner have said "Nuh-uh, we already have Tekken, so it doesn't count!" Of course not. Who gives a damn? I'm not arguing historical impact. I don't buy systems because they have historical impact, I buy them because they have fun games. "The best systems have great games and pushes forward new ideas for gaming, through innovative games and hardware ideas. The Gamecube has a great assortment of games, but it lags behind in every other step of the way." AKLDJFAJLKF why won't this quote right? Every time I use brackets here, it screws up the whole post. I'd consider ED, RE4, Monkey Ball, Metroid, and Viewtiful Joe to be innovative. Mario's water gun, and Zelda's world made up of water and islands and celshading graphics were innovative. WW's story and setting was a hell of a lot better than Ocarina rehashing LTTP's story by any means. WW's world was far more interesting to me because it was something I had never seen in a Zelda game, while Ocarina felt just like LTTP put into 3D. In fact, if WW isn't innovative, I have to wonder what they could have done for it not to be a rehash to you. I mean, they were already put into 3D, what did you want them to do with the Zelda on GC? Put it in 4D? Look, both systems offered new experiences people haven't seen before. Perhaps N64 did it more so but using that as your whole argument is really grasping at straws, especially when ignoring that the GC has a lot more great games.

But many would say they liked Sunshine and Wind Waker better. Gamers bitched about the crappy camera angles in Mario 64 and the small world (half of it being a barren field with no secrets) of Ocarina too. I loved the sailing in WW, it provided the exploration aspect that Zelda games used to be known for and was sadly missing from Ocarina. I loved that in Sunshine, the jetpack allowed you to have a second chance if you happened to fall off of a ledge and you didn't have to start all over if you were given a bad camera angle. That made a few stages in Mario 64 tedious as hell. (The existence of the clock tower stage should be proof enough that Sunshine is a better game) I didn't like being stuck in the little small squares in Mario 64, Sunshine's stages were much larger and required less going to same spot over and over. The platforming special levels they added were cool. And I didn't mention graphics yet, but they didn't hurt. I accept that some people don't care about exploring and found sailing to be boring, but I'll never understand why anyone likes Mario 64 over Sunshine. Don't think just because the Cube games had lower ratings that it means reviewers thought they weren't as good. If you look in the review, usually you'll find them saying something like "It's improved in every single way." or "If you liked the N64 game, you won't be disappointed." The reason a lot of reviewers didn't rate them as high is because they weren't as revolutionary. Well I mentioned the multiplayer separately but I wasn't a huge fan of Goldeneye's multiplayer anyway. Deathmatches always seemed to be determined by just who was the biggest Goldeneye nerd in the group, whenever you died they would go to the spot they knew you'd pop out at, and plant a mine or something causing instant death. It was kinda lame. Or they would look at your little square, know from the discoloration of spots on the walls exactly where you were and be able to find you. Besides, Super Monkey Ball's multiplayer more than puts any multiplayer on N64 to shame. I haven't played Paper Mario, but from what I've heard Thousand Year Door was better. I'm sorry, no offense, but if you'd take a rehashed wrestling game (A really flawed one at that) over a game that provides a completely unique experience, an amazing atmosphere, and a terrific storyline, wow, remind me never to ask you for a recommendation. They give it a distinct advantage over the N64. N64 was lacking in fighters, while Gamecube has Soul Calibur 2, one of the greatest fighters ever. Regardless of whether or not it was on other systems, Gamecube has all genres covered. I can't see why it would matter if it was a multi-platform game. Having those games makes it a better system. I used to say the same thing until the Metroids, Eternal Darkness, the Super Monkey Balls, the Resident Evils, the Viewtiful Joes, Soul Calibur 2, and rpgs came out. If none of those had ever come out except for the first Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, and F-Zero GX (one of the most fun and addictive games I've played in years, F-Zero reminded me why I still play games), I would still say Gamecube was the superior system. Because they were that good. All of the other games just push it further away IMO. Especially RE4 which just sealed it. And it's not even over yet. There's at least one more Zelda on the way.

How can anyone put Nintendo 64 above Gamecube is beyond me. Of the most popular games on N64, Mario 64, Zelda: OOT, Goldeneye, Mario Kart, and Smash Brothers, you could make a strong argument that 4 of those 5 have much better sequels on Cube. As far as FPSs go, either Metroid Prime blows away Goldeneye. F-Zero GX was better than F-Zero X. If you have a cube, you've basically already played everything the N64 had to offer except for Conker... and possibly Goldeneye multiplayer. But yet there's games on the cube that N64 has no match for or anything remotely comparable to. Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 4, RE: Remake, and RE:0, Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2, Tales of Symphonia, Soul Calibur 2, Prince of Persia, and so on. Even if for some reason you think the Mario and Zelda for 64 was better, Cube has to have at least twice the amount of good games that N64 did any way you want to look at it.

Yeah, I guess if you don't mind having only 3-4 good games a year. Are these people too poor to get a new system? What poor souls are still playing multiplayer Conker on N64 when they could be playing XBox Conker multiplayer? Or any of those games when they could be playing Super Monkey Ball? This is a guy who knows what he's talking about. Those games didn't exist on PS1, fool. VF2 was on Saturn and ROTK 3 was on SNES. Hi, I just turned off Dragon Warrior 7 about a hour ago.

Neo Geo games sold millions of copies, even the crappy ones? That's what I meant. Anything made on the n64 sold like crazy in 96 and 97, and third parties STILL kept making games for Sony. N64's hardware was that much of a pain in the ass. Cartridges didn't help either.
-
That's a sad smiley, not a mad one. You've been here this long and you don't even know that? The fun part was when the system released (delayed for months and months might I add) with 2 games and you had to wait 5 fucking months for another decent game to come along. Then 3 more months and you had Blast Corps and Star fox. Maybe an addition 5 more months for Goldeneye. And then nothing else until like November of NEXT YEAR when Zelda came out. What made it even funnier is just how many people biased to N64 would brag about how much those games sold. It was hilarious! They couldn't seem to grasp that the reason their sales were so good and they were on top of the charts for so long was because no one had anything else to buy. Even Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Cruisin USA were selling a million copies. Yet third parties still for the most part stayed away. (That's when you know you have a badly designed system.)
-
Why did I ever link you to this board?
-
 That's my comment. It was hard to develop for if I remember correctly. That's why all of the third parties went over and made games for Sony. And the few games that they did make on N64 were never blockbusters like Metal Gear Solid or Resident Evil or Silent Hill, but just crap games. There was hardly anything on the system worth owning outside of Nintendo and Rare.

Don't forget that there was one thing left after the segment, the main event. I mean, if you watched up to that point and endured all of that crap, you might as well watch Angle/Cena too. Next week's rating is more important.

Ratings went down after Katie Vick, didn't they? The people that liked it have to be in the minority, can't see why ratings would go up. -

I thought the worst thing about it was that they did the exact same fucking skit 3 years ago with HHH and Hurricane. They copied it even down to the ending of pulling a fake head out and all. Do they really think no one remembers what happened 3 years ago? -
I'd rather watch Vince pull things out of JR's ass than Cena in the ring.
-
Didn't they do this exact thing with HHH? I'm not going to lie, the JR sound effects made me laugh.

As far as popcorn flicks go, would you say it was better than the Scorpion King?
-
Is there any chance whatsoever of RVD/Lynn? I know RVD said he wanted that as the main event of the next one. If that was possible, it would make up for those guys and then some. What's Lynn doing now?
