One couple walked out when I saw it. Amazing movie. Best comic adaptation ever. It also shows you how lazy filmmakers can be, because this was truly something I've never seen before on the screen. There are three major Sin City stories left: A DAME TO KILL FOR (my favorite): With Dwight (Clive Owen), Gail (Rosario Dawson), Miho (Devon Aoki), Manute (Michael Clark Duncan), Marv (Mickey Rourke), and some new characters. I believe it's the first story (chronologically) of the six major stories. (I'd say more but I'd have to make a spoiler warning). TO HELL AND BACK: With Wallace (Johnny Depp was slated to do this) and others. FAMILY VALUES: With Dwight, Miho, Gail, and others. These are three great stories but you really can't do two Dwight-Miho-Gail stories in the same movie. I say do DAME, TO HELL, and a brand new story by Frank (more Marv?). People might be confused by the stories beuing done out of order but FUCK 'EM. I need another SIN CITY flick!! Rodriguez says he wants to do them all so...

Some interesting Survivor Series 1997 stuff
Betty Houle replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
That is hardly "easily the worst match the two ever had." Even if you're discounting house show matches, it's not their worst big match. It's quite good in the eyes of many (including them and me). And Bret only kind of disliked Michaels at this point. It was well before he really disliked him. -
the Jimmy Hart book? the Harley Race book? the Dusty Rhodes book? the Terry Funk book? the HHH workout book? the Bruno Sammartino book? the Jack Brisco book?
-
I, of course, was only kidding when I said Michaels should have gone over Angle. It really doesn't matter one way or the other. Great match, nonetheless! I hope we do get a rematch as should all of you!

Michaels should have gone over Angle at Wrestlemania.

What are your thoughts on Bret/HBK Ironman?
Betty Houle replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
I like that match a lot. Just watched it for the second time ever when I bought the HBK DVD. Probably my favorite Iron Man match (although the Rock-HHH match is very entertaining). -
The best part of this match is when they totally botch a roll-up and Savage says (with no apparent sarcasm): "What a manuever!!"

Do WHAT manually? The weekly prep?

I have to disagree. The saving-Steamboat-from-Hercules-taking-the-title angle was played as a total heel move. Once Honky took the title and Savage didn't have Steamboat to feud with, Savage suddenly was getting matches with Hogan again (where they actually teased an Elizabeth babyface turn) and he went as far as to congratulate Honky. It wasn't until later in the year that they had Savage get upset when Honky starting claiming he was the "Greatest Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion of All-Time". Savage had slowly been getting more and more babyface reactions in his squash matches around this time (one memorable match with Sivi Afi comes to mind). Savage confronted Jimmy Hart in a lockerrooom segment that was aired on the syndicated shows, I believe. Before you know it, Savage was wrestling Hercules in house show matches across the country (I was at the Boston Garden show on October 3rd, 1986) and the SNME match with Honky was announced. At the end of Wrestling Challenge one week, they had six WWF superstars pick a winner ending with Hogan picking Savage to win based on the growing new power in this Universe- Macho Madness. SNME happened, the Mega Powers were formed, and the rest was history.

Hogan-Bob Orton from the Memorial Day episode of Superstars (1986).

Boy, Woody a poor replacement for Coach.

When did come out? I've been waiting and waiting and then I forgot about it. Strolled into Walmart yesterday and there it was...for 30 bucks! Whee!
-
OK, so I've been playing the franchise mode on the latest ESPN football game for the Xbox. Players will sustain injuries, it will say they'll be back in 2 weeks, and they never come back. What am I doing wrong (or not doing right)?
-
Everyone should buy this set. 15 bucks. A ton o' matches and history. The Shawn Michaels match is worth the price alone!
-
I'm embarassed to admit that I called one for news about some PPV. I was 14, cut me some slack!

To quote Dave Meltzer (who has much more time to analyze this silliness than I do): "By the way, even with discounting tickets and all, and it wasn't the success at the gate they had hoped for, selling more than 48,000 tickets in San Antonio, Texas is nothing to sneeze at. Who else in history has ever come close to that? To use that as an example that Michaels isn't a good draw because they didn't sellout a 70,000 seat building is mind boggling." Again, there were over 62,000 people in attendance; 48,000 PAID. For a non-Wrestlemania show. During a downtime for the company. Think about it.
-
Damn! Makes me wish I had seen that match! I bet it was awesome.
-
It should also be noted that he main evented Wrestlemania 14 and 20 which were extremely successful. He was a fair part of the success of Summer Slam 2002. The 1997 Royal Rumble with him in the main event sold 48,000 tickets during a downtime for the company. He's been apart of countless of other successful ppv's and houses. Yes, he is associated with some horrible buyrates/houses (as I previously stated). He’s had failures as well as successes. He was put on top of the card in the middle of the WWF’s worst period and he wasn’t a help. I never claimed he was. I’m not trying to slight Jericho either. I just claimed Michaels was a better draw throughout his career overall than Jericho. Period.

Absolutely! I go about once a month (give them time to bring in new stuff) and buy a half dozen or so DVDs at a time.

Things in wrestling that were never explained
Betty Houle replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Did they ever specifically state that Heenan was behind Andre's no-shows that caused him to get suspended (and become the Giant Machine) in 1986? Did they ever state that Heenan caused his no-shows? And don't tell me if it was implied, I want facts! -
Maybe. I see your point about him not necesarily being easy to like as a babyface at times, but it was pretty easy to back in 1988. He was insanely over for a while (and was once again in 1990 and 1997). Overall I think he makes a better babyface because of his babyface fire and awesome comebacks. His promos suck either way though!* *A brief mention of one of the few brushes with celebrity I've had: I had the opportunity to hang out in Luger's presence for the better part of a day once. He was a really fucking funny guy. Never came across in his promos though!
-
Good point. And the actual finish ended up being rather anticlimatic, all things considered.
-
As in, he was a bigger draw than Jericho in their respective careers overall, yes. I know these things aren't easy to "prove" but I stand by my belief. Than again, Jericho hasn't main evented much so it's not a fair comparison. And HBK was, at times, associated with some awful buyrates/drawn houses. Overall winner: Michaels.

They had roughly 600 matches. Not a real lot available. I think there are two Best of the WWF's that have them and the Coliseum tapes for the Harts and Bulldogs do as well.
