  1. Oregon State misses an extra point to tie the game against Arizona. 17-16 with 4:05 to go.
  2. Utah is now up 48-24 on BYU with three minutes to go and they are about to lock up a BCS berth. Boise State will now have to rely on an at-large invite but it seems highly unlikely that they will get one. Arizona takes the lead on Oregon State 17-10 with 8:26 to go.
  3. Six wins makes you eligible but they need seven to lock up a bid. Odds are there will be enough open bids this year for them to grab one but by rule seven-plus win teams have to be invited first to open bowl bids over six win teams.
  4. After being outscored 524-91 in ten games against I-A opponents, Wazzu beats Washington 16-13 in overtime. Yup, Tyrone Willingham will never find I-A coaching job ever again.
  5. No good! Seriously, Charlie Weis should be fired. The Irish now have to upset USC next week to assure themselves a bowl game.
  6. Syracuse goes up on Notre Dame 24-23 with 42 seconds remaining. DOING IT FOR GREG ROBINSON!!!!
  7. Hey the Apple Cup is going to have an exciting finish it seems. Wazzu hits a field goal as time expires. Overtime.
  8. Stanford has curled up and died in the 3rd quarter. 20 points by Cal in only seven minutes. 30-3. Bowl drought will continue. I am sad.
  9. Coming into today, STANFORD~ had scored on 37 of 39 redzone posessions while scoring 30 touchdowns. Today in the redzone they've missed a field goal, fumbled, and settled for a field goal after having 2nd and Goal at the 1. They've played so much better than Cal in this game but they trail 10-3 at the half.

    2008 Bowl Bubble #2

Beyond the myriad of typos in this post, I have to make a correction regarding Clemson. I had forgotten that they played two I-AA teams this year and you can only count one of those games towards bowl eligibility thus they still need to beat South Carolina next week to become bowl eligible.
  11. A week ago North Carolina had a chance to take control of the Coastal division in the ACC and now they are about to be eliminated as N.C. State has opened up a 31-10 lead on the Tar Heels.

    2008 Bowl Bubble #2

The main reason Notre Dame can do just fine without being part of a conference is because of their television deal with NBC. As long as they have that in place it makes no sense for them financially to join a conference. If NBC ever decides to not renew the deal you'd see the Irish join the Big Ten in a hurry. Also as an independent when they make a bowl they don't have to share the payout with the rest of the conference and that become a huge boon for them when they make a BCS bowl with a payout of $14 million+ going to the school.
  18. Red Sox traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez.
  19. Wow, bizarre finish in the UAB/Arizona game. With the game tied U of A had the ball for the final shot in regulation. They miss the shot with about three seconds left, UAB gets the rebound and looks like they only have a chance for a halfcourt shot but Arizona's Jamelle Horne intentionally fouls the UAB player with 0.8 seconds on the clock. Free throw, ball game and UAB advances to the NIT semis.
  20. My Picks Georgia Tech Purdue Clemson Mississippi State Penn State Wake Forest STANFORD~ Illinois Utah Oregon State Iowa Cincinnati Maryland Oklahoma 73/123
  21. The plan is to move everything to ESPN including the MNC game. It should be noted the Rose Bowl negotiates their own separate t.v. deal from the BCS and they may be unwilling to have their game moved off of ABC. Really what we're seeing is the continuing trend of moving sports off of network television. ABC in particular seems to want no part of sports anymore hence why they closed down ABC Sports a couple of years of ago and handed all their production over to ESPN. One other note this year will be the last MNC game on Fox since the Rose Bowl is the site of next year's MNC game so it was already slated to be shown on ABC.
  22. I'm assuming you read the BP sidebar today and nothing in that or the article it references in the San Jose Mercury News say that the deal is "dead" just that with the current economy it's probably going to be delayed further. I personally don't care what happens with the Fremont deal anymore and don't care if they have to play in the Coliseum for another 20 years. What still pisses me off to this day is the city of Oakland and Alameda County bending over and spending $200 million over a decade ago to build the montrosity that is Mount Davis, ruining that stadium just so they could bring back the Raiders. If the Raiders never came back the A's would probably have a new stadium in Oakland by now.
  23. I felt it would be like choosing a Sun Belt game so I left it off and plus there's a good slate of games this week. And if you just can't get enough message board football pick 'em action, shoot kkktookmybabyaway a PM as he has an open spot in his contest right now.
  24. It's another Biggest Game of the Century of the Decade of the Year of the Month of the of the Week of the Day on Saturday...and I'm of course talking about the Apple Cup! Washington! Washington State! Someone must win! Or do they? I'm predicting a ten overtime, missed field goal fest that ends in a tie due to lack of interest to continue the game between everyone involved. Oh ya and there's Texas Tech/Oklahoma but really, who gives a shit? Also there's the Holy War between BYU and Utah with major BCS implications which you can all see on the Mtn. Network! Okay maybe two of you can see the game while the rest of us follow one of those online game trackers. 25. Duke had a scare today against Rhode Island, 82-79. As usual the second of the week of the season is when we start to see some meaningful games. Preseason NIT starts tomorrow with Boston College, Purdue, Oklahoma, and Arizona as the host schools. We could get our first Top 25 match-up of the year on Tuesday between Davidson and Oklahoma. Puerto Rico Tip Off begins Thursday which features two Top 25 teams in Memphis and USC but the tournament organizers have the brackets set up where they would meet in the semis. Good planning there. Xavier and Virginia Tech are the other teams of note. The Coaches vs. Cancer tournament wraps up on Friday where there is the possible Duke/UCLA final for what would be the first Top 10 match-up of the year. Full T.V. Schedule for Week of 11/17 - 11/23 ESPN's has their first game of the year tomorrow night with Purdue's opening round NIT game.
