  1. Illinois loses to Western Michigan 23-17. A year after making the Rose Bowl they are in jeopardy of failing to become bowl eligible as their last two games are home against Ohio State and then at Northwestern.
  2. I guess the Tennessee players aren't all inspired to have Fulmer leave on a high note as they are down 13-0 at halftime to Wyoming.
  3. Texans - 20 points Atlanta Tennessee Jacksonville Baltimore Miami Green Bay Buffalo St. Louis Carolina Pittsburgh San Diego N.Y. Giants Arizona
  4. My point was if you stuck this year's Utah team, with their current resume, into the 2007 scenario of having no other unbeatens and only one BCS conference team with fewer than two loses, they likely make into the MNC game, not if you stuck this year's Utah team and had them play last year's schedule. Wasn't really arguing if Utah deserved to play in the MNC game this year anyways as they need way too many things to go their way for them to have a legit argument. But I do think it's ridiculous to compare Utah's resume to Hawaii's last year. Hawaii played the weakest schedule in the country last season while Utah, as I already pointed out, has played a middle of the road schedule. In fact their schedule is right on par with Penn State's (currently 61st overall).
  5. Coming into this week Utah strength of schedule was #66 in the country and when taking into account future opponents, which would have included TCU, it bumps them to #59 overall so basically they will have played an average overall schedule. By comparison Boise State is currently ranked #87 in SOS and when including future opponents they rank only #104 overall. There is the nightmare scenario out there where USC finishes #2 and Utah finishes #3 which would obviously create the conflict of having a one loss team make the MNC game over an undefeated team who beat the only team that beat USC (other side of that coin would be of course that USC played the Beavers in Corvallis while Utah played them at home). But a lot would have to happen for that to play out and I seriously doubt it will. If you stuck this year's Utah team into 2007, I think they would have made the MNC game over the glut of two loss teams last year.
  6. I don't think there's any chance they make a real push for Holliday and I think its just media speculation trying to find a trade partner due to the A's having an assload of pitching prospects. The fact that Holliday wants to play for a team that's in the postseason on a regular basis, I don't think he'd be in a real rush to sign an extension with a team that just went through a rebuilding year. In turn it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for the A's to suddenly give up a good chunk of the prospect surplus they built up over the past year for a one year rental when there aren't going to be a serious contender.
  7. Game over, 13-10 Utah. After a bye next week, they play San Diego State (another bye week) and then their rivalry game against BYU which again most of the country will not be able to see.
  8. Touchdown Utah with 47 seconds left!
  9. And they miss another field goal. Just 2:48 to go though.
  10. Color me shocked by the news that according to Robothal, the A's are going to make a big push for Rafael Furcal. Could Bobby Crosby's reign of terror finally be over!?
  11. TCU shanks a short field goal, still 10-6.
  12. With some of these jobs opening up I've been waiting for Jim Harbaugh's name to get attached to one of these positions. Then I see this today: http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_10900864 Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! They better give him whatever he wants. Forget the strides the program has made on the field, Rivals.com currently ranks Stanford's 2009 recruiting class #18 overall, and Scout.com has them ranked #13. If he bolts at the end of the season, expect a lot those recruits to do the same and it'll be back to square one for the program.

  19. They've been doing this for a about month now and I've been meaning to actually sit through one of these games when Lou Holtz is announcing as I'm sure it all has him very confused.
  20. A whopping six Top 25 games this week and all with BCS bowl implications which I'll rundown. Oklahoma State at Texas Tech: The Big XII owns your college footbaw soul this year as once again the biggest game of the week comes from that conference, although for the first time in a month it doesn't involve Texas. Tech controls their own destiny to making the MNC Game while Oklahoma State probably needs too much help to get there but running the table would likely get them a BCS bowl. Note this game is regional in the ESABCPN primetime slot so I will post the coverage map when it's released, but with the other game being Cal/USC it's pretty easy to figure out what part of the country won't get this game. Alabama at LSU: Nick Saban makes his long awaited return to Baton Rouge and no game will have as much pure hatred in the stands as this one all year. Alabama obviously will be the MNC if they win out while LSU will need to win out to have any chance at one of the BCS at large spots and even then it might not be enough. Hopefully this turns out to be a decent game as the ESS EEE SEE on SEE BEE ESS games have been terrible this year. TCU at Utah: This game is Thursday night on CBS College Sports so a lot of you will have to rely on ESPN to give you updates during their game. Gee ya think the Mountain West might want to rethink their television deal that leaves them as the only conference without games televised by the WWL? It's pretty simple for Utah, win out and they are likely on their way to the Fiesta Bowl. TCU has an outside chance of still of getting in but they'll need to hop Boise State to do so. Speaking of which, the Broncos will definitely have an eye on this game as there is little to no chance that two non-BCS conference schools get BCS bids so they need Utah to lose or otherwise it's off to play another glorified home game against a 6-6 ACC team. California at USC: This is a big game for the Trojans because beyond being eliminated from MNC contention, a loss here could also kill their BCS bowl chances as they would lose out on tiebreaks to both Oregon State and Cal for the Rose Bowl. Of course being that USC has become the Notre Dame of the west coast, they may still get an at large bid in that scenario. Cal hasn't been to a Rose Bowl in my lifetime and I pray it stays that way. Ohio State at Northwestern. The Buckeyes may not lose the MNC game again this year but win out and they are a lock for a BCS at large bid. Northwestern's only chance at a shocking BCS bid would be to run the table and hope Penn State makes the MNC game which would then make the Wildcats a replacement candidate for the Rose Bowl. Georgia Tech at North Carolina. The Clusterfuck to Tampa continues! The winner of this game probably emerges the favorite to win the conference and the Orange Bowl bid but becoming the favorite in the ACC usually means you lose the following week. If you think the Big XII South tiebreak scenarios are a headache, it could get much worse in both divisions of the ACC. Coverage note, ESABCPN passed on this game for Clemson/FSU so it's off to Raycom.
