Auburn will hire Iowa State's head coach Gene Chizik as their new head coach. Really? That's the best they could come up with? And that was fun end to the Richmond/Northern Iowa game.
-
Phillies have signed Raul Ibanez to a 3-year, $30 million deal. So I guess not having any interest in keeping Pat Burrell had nothing to do with possibly upgrading their defense in left field.

Robothal is reporting the three-way trade that brings that Putz to the Mets is a done deal.

Gino Torretta over Garrison Hearst and Marshall Faulk. 'Nuff said. News of note, Florida's offensive coordinator Dan Mullen has been named Mississippi State's new head coach.

Since this thread is still going strong not going to bother creating another for the bowls until next week. But here's the TV schedule for the upcoming weekend for the divisions that have playoffs. FRIDAY FCS Semi-Final: Montana at James Madison, 8:00/5:00 PM, ESPN2 SATURDAY Division II Championship: Northwest Missouri State vs. Minnesota-Duluth, 1:00 PM/10:00 AM, ESPN2 SWAC Championship: Jackson State vs. Grambling State, 2:00 PM/11:00 AM, ESPN Classic FCS Semi-Final: Richmond at Northern Iowa, 4:00/1:00 PM, ESPN And here's a quick summary of the individual coaches ballots for the final Coaches' Poll from collegebcs.com.

You called it. Gordon was the only player elected from either ballot. Santo came closest on the post-'43 ballot but actually received fewer votes than he did in 2007.

OMG Independence Bowl CONTROVERSY~! http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/1070 SHENANIGANS!
-
There's not going to be a split champion, it's not even a remote possibility. If Texas was ahead of Oklahoma in the AP poll then there would be a chance but they aren't and it doesn't matter what they do against Ohio State. The winner of the MNC game will be the unanimous MNC.
-
BREAKING NEWS ON BOWL GAMES YOU DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT -It seemed to be a forgone conclusion that Louisiana-Lafayette would be invited to the Independence Bowl to set up an all-Louisiana match-up but there is a report that Northern Illinois has been invited instead. -Also being reported that Florida Atlantic will indeed be invited to the Motor City Bowl.
-
I find it amusing that the Poinsettia Bowl is going to end up with the best match-up according to the BCS rankings among the non-BCS bowls and both teams are ranked higher than the teams that will play in the Orange Bowl.
-
OMG NOT BEFORE THE OFFICIAL BCS SELECTION SHOW!!! Yes, they are reliable. Here's the rest. 11. TCU 12. Cincinnati 13. Oklahoma State 14. Georgia Tech 15. Georgia 16. BYU 17. Oregon 18. Michigan State 19. Virginia Tech 20. Pittsburgh 21. Missouri 22. Ball State 23. Northwestern 24. Boston College 25. Mississippi

Almost everything is official except the aforementioned three at large bids. The Poinsettia Bowl is holding off on the Boise State announcement with incredibly slim chance that the Fiesta Bowl officials heart's grow three times larger in the next hour and invite Boise over Ohio State. Considering the Big Ten invites have been handed out already just a hunch they've all been told that Ohio State is going to the Fiesta. For the at large bids the primary speculation is N.C. State to the PapaJohns.com, Western Michigan to the Texas Bowl, and Florida Atlantic to the Motor City Bowl. I know you are all better for knowing this. Edit: N.C. State has officially been invited to the PapaJohns.com which puts Western Michigan in the Texas Bowl by default as there obviously won't be two MAC teams in the Motor City Bowl.

Sorry Broward, after all that the latest report is Notre Dame is heading to the Hawaii Bowl. A big reason appears to be the fact that the Texas Bowl is one of the two bowl games that is televised by the NFL Network and Irish fans would throw a fit if they were unable to see the game. The Texas Bowl options are now either N.C. State or Western Michigan.

12/7: A Message To College Fooball Fans
Bored commented on kkktookmybabyaway's blog entry in KK's Korner
Western Kentucky is in a two year transitional period from I-AA to I-A and that's why they aren't currently in a conference. They officially will be a member of I-A in 2009 and will join the Sun Belt Conference. Bowl eligible means what it means. A school is eligible to be invited to a bowl game but not guaranteed one. With them expanding to 34 bowl games there was some concern there would be 68 eligible teams but they ended up with 72 eligible teams. The only rule in place about who gets left home is if a conference is down to it's final bowl bid or if there is only one at-large bid left, a 7+ win team must be invited over a 6 win team. With the current state of the economy I won't be surprised if a handful bowl games go belly up after this season. -
By a landslide the AIG Bailout Bowl is the name of the 10th bowl game. Kudos to KingPK for coming up with the name. Bowls Bored Bowl: N.C. Updates -Vampiro69 has defeated Mecca by tiebreak to win the Big MAC Championship. -AboveAverage484 has clinched the WAC Championship as HarelyQuin would lose out on the tiebreak. -CanadianChris has defeated Porter by tiebreak to win the Big Eight Championship. Porter is eliminated from bowl consideration so all 7 win teams are now assured a bowl game. Only one undecided is the Pac-8. UZI has a one point lead but KingPK owns the tiebreak so their match-up will be decided by the ASU/Arizona game.

Okay not quite, but Orosco and Rickey Henderson will be the last players to make their MLB debut in the 1970s and be a first timer on the ballot. Orosco is purely on the ballot due to his longevity and his career games pitched record might stand for a while but obviously he's not a HOF.
-
If the Hall of Fame decided to have RICKEY~ wear a Yankees cap on his plaque then I will have no other choice but to burn down Cooperstown. And I'm not just talking about the HOF, but the whole damn town! There's no chance he goes in with any other cap than the A's. I've been sifting through some of RICKEY's~ best games and this game might be the ultimate RICKEY~ game. Four plate appearances, four walks, four runs, five stolen bases.
