    Gold Gloves

See it's a shame because Jeter's best play ever is completely overlooked by the many overrated ones (the "dive" into the stands and the Jeremy Giambi play). The best play he ever made was against the A's in that infamous 2001 ALDS in Game 5 when literally did have to fall into the stands to make a catch. Anyways I almost feel bad for pointing out the Jeter selection after seeing Jason Varitek win it. Awful, awful selection.

    Gold Gloves

ESPN's "exclusive" announcement is in a couple of hours but it has already been leaked that Derek Jeter has won the Gold Glove at shortstop for the second straight year. I guess unecessarily diving into the stands after he caught a foul ball last year has carried him two awards and probably now has it nailed down for the rest of this decade. Wonderful.
  3. So if the plan was Coach beating Austin, are they now going to have Coach beat Batista? Now that wouldn't be good for business.

  7. There was a virtual tie for the #10 spot this week (same record, same correct pick %, same "strength of schedule") but Marvin gets the nod over Cuban due to being higher ranked last week. Both were very fortunate to win this week. Currently only four points seperating the top 9 in correct pick %. 19 out of the 34 teams are 5-4 or 4-5. This thing is just wide open going into the final four weeks of the regular season. Also there was a tie for the #1 spot overall but because one has a better record than the other, we have a new #1 for the 3rd straight week... Bored Championship Series Top 10 thru Week 9 1. 9. That was quite the spectacular choke job by Stanford. I could hardly be dissapointed as I didn't think they'd win but damn would it have killed them to blow the game at 17-3 instead of 24-3? Oh well a team who loses UC Davis probably shouldn't be sniffing a bowl game. And it appears Tennessee's season is officially a disaster.
  10. Moneyball came out when DePodesta was still their assistant GM. As to why he left...he got offered the Dodgers' GM job so of course he was going to take a higher position since obviously Beane ain't going ahywhere.
  11. Wow Bill Plaschke gets his way? What a joke. Hey maybe DePo can comeback to the A's to assist Beane for a year.
  12. iggy they started doing this a couple of years ago and it is indeed very annoying. It's nothing more than a ploy to get more people to order GamePlan, which beyond getting all the ABC regional games is fairly useless with the large number of games that get televised every week. I am just tickled that because of the weak slate of games this week, UCLA/Stanford is considered one of the bigger games and that some think Stanford could pull off the upset. Cardinal have no running game at all so they can't take advantage of UCLA's biggest weakness so I doubt they will win. I just have to think they didn't try at all to lose that UC Davis game because it seemed impossible this team would have an outside shot at a bowl game at that point. How do you lead Arizona State 45-7 at one point but lose to UC Davis? It makes no sense. That loss is even worse for their bowl hopes, and I was unaware of this until about a week ago, but the NCAA changed the rules when it comes to wins against I-AA teams. It used to be you could only count one win over a I-AA team every four years for bowl eligibility. Now starting this year you can count every win over a I-AA team. This is incredibly stupid as it just encourages schools to schedule I-AA teams as warm ups for their conference schedule. It's even worse when they go to 12 game schedules full time next year when 6-6 teams can be eligible so you can have a losing record against I-A teams yet still go to a bowl game. In any event Stanford really screwed the pooch with that loss as they would be 5-1 right now and have five chances to be come bowl eligible but they have to win at least two of a murderous final five games (UCLA, at USC, at Oregon State, Cal, Notre Dame).
  13. Vitamin X has not submitted picks yet, if they don't by tommorrow's deadline their replacement picks will be by phoenixrising.
