  1. Former Southern star Whatley passes away [email protected] "Pez Whatley, a Southern wrestling star who was a high profile performer in the 80s in both the Georgia and Carolinas territories, passed away earlier today in a hospital in his native Chattanooga. "
  2. I remember Radio WWF because for a few weeks they were listing which stations in the country were broadcasting it...there were at least a couple in Wisconsin, and I tried to pick them up, but they were too far away from me, so I never heard the program. I think they were on Saturday nights or something.
  3. I only watched the very beginning of it so far...isn't this one on the Hogan DVD WWE put out a couple years ago?
  4. Yes, and I always end up with "the page cannot be found." Very frustrating.
  5. Two shows on my birthday...neither look like a barnburner or anything, but I guess the Toms River, NJ main event might have been cool to see. WWF @ Kenilworth, NJ - March 27, 1980 Paul Figueroa defeated Pinky Larson Johnny Rodz defeated Gomez Hulk Hogan defeated Dominic DeNucci Tor Kamata defeated Tony Altimore Rene Goulet defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna Ken Patera defeated Pat Patterson via count-out WWF @ Toms River, NJ - March 27, 1980 Davey O'Hannon defeated Steve King Larry Sharpe defeated Paul Figueroa Jose Estrada defeated Mark Pole Bulldog Brower defeated Mike Masters Andre the Giant & Tito Santana defeated the Wild Samoans
  6. No one knows? OK...
  7. Yeah, I knew they were around. They seem to have an NWA-style affiliation of indys going right now. I've never seen them running any shows around here though (I'm in Southern Wisconsin). They're just another indy at this point, but it is nice to see a promotion with some heritage running in the US again (not discounting WWE and NWA).
  8. Grenier wins a belt after his horrible match with Shelton last week? That is stupid.
  9. I doubt he's going to RAW. The original word was that he's going to Smackdown to feud with John Cena, and it will be revealed that New Jack was the one who stabbed John Cena in that nightclub, not Carlito or Jesus.
  10. Oh well...I'm sure it's probably a short term deal of some kind, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
  11. Stevie would be cool, especially since he was so hillarious in that battle royal on RAW a few weeks back when he was in the last 6 or so guys. I can't believe they don't at least give this guy a lower mid-card push or put him in a tag team with someone like Snitsky where he can be the mouth piece. The guy is too talented to just waste on Heat squashes week after week.
  12. I really wish they would make Smackdown live...having it pre-taped makes it seem like the B-show it is, where it should be viewed as RAW's equal. I know the costs probably make it prohibitive right now, but I think it would make the shows come off better. I know it shouldn't be a big difference if a show is live or taped, but it seems like WWE has always done a much better job with their live shows than with the pre-taped ones. The live ones have more of an exciting feel, where the tape shows never seem that way. Also, I think one reason why Smackdown is ahead of RAW is the fact that people are sick of Triple H...RAW has no top face to challenge him, and people are probably mad he won the Elimination Chamber match yet again... I don't mind Trips as much as some people here, but he is beyond stale and hasn't been in any decent angles since Orton first left Evolution (and even that is debatable given the execution). I really think that is why people are migrating away from RAW.
  13. WWE is just going to price themselves out of the PPV market if they keep up with it...seems like they raise their prices every year. It's not like their product is so hot right now that they can justify it, either.
  14. I've never been into Pink Floyd, or any other '70s prog-rock. I just don't like the over-produced sound that most of it has. Plus songs like "Another Brick in the Wall" have been ruined by being so over played on classic rock radio...they're just cliche now.

    Board Games

Nevermind...I found it through Google. The game is called "Frag" from Steve Jackson Games.

    Board Games

That reminds me...about three years ago while I was still in college, a friend of mine had this game...it was a board game, but it was made to simulate playing a first person shooter on a PC! You would move your character around the board and shoot at other players, and dice rolls determined the outcomes. It was _really_ fun. Anyone know what this game is? Thanks.
  17. Hi all. Don't know about everyone else but I use Trillian as my IM program of choice because I can use my ICQ, AIM, and MSN accounts with it. They have a new version out, but I haven't been able to download it. It appears to only be available from one location through C-Net, and I haven't been able to get it to work. The download doesn't even start up. Can anyone help me out with a link to another site or something? Thanks.
  18. I got a 30GB Creative Zen Xtra for Christmas. I like is so far. Not as slick as an iPod, but the sound quality is really great. Pretty easy to use as well, and a nice big display.
  19. Haven't they tried this gimmick enough to realize it doesn't work?
  20. Well, if New Jack works out maybe they can give Sabu a tryout match against Rosey or Heidenreich next.
  21. You guys are such losers...it's "Too Drunk to Fuck" by the Dead Kennedys.
  22. I just recently started looking over this thread, and felt compelled to post a few transactions my team, the Brewers, made this winter: 11/28 - Signed C Damian Miller to a 3-year Major League contract (posted earlier, but the Brewers needed a good catcher desparately, so this was important) 12/11 - Traded RHP Dan L. Kolb to the Atlanta Braves for RHP Jose Capellan and a PTBNL (non-roster RHP Alec Zumwalt) (Brewers get the Braves top pitching prospect) 12/13 - Traded CF Scott Podsednik, RHP Jose Vizcaino and a PTBNL to the Chicago White Sox for LF Carlos Lee (Lee should help the Brewers' lacking offense tremendously) 12/15 - Traded IF Keith Ginter to the Oakland Athletics for RHP Justin Lehr and OF Nelson Cruz (this one is kind of "eh, we'll see"...Ginter was popular, but he didn't have a spectacular season or anything...I think this will be fairly even for both teams) They also did a bunch of other minor signings and re-signings. Hopefully the Brewers are getting closer to actually having a winning season, for the first time since '92. At least they actually went out and got some people who could make a difference this year.
  23. Personally, as my family didn't get cable (and subsequently WCW on TBS) until '92 or so after Flair had left WCW, I hadn't seen much of him. I had heard of him from a friend though, but never seen him wrestle. It was a pretty big deal when he came in, and it was surprising to the marks to see him win the Royal Rumble, as I recall anyway. Maybe the smarks on the internet knew it was going to happen, I don't know as I didn't get on the 'net until early '96. As far as why he was signed to a relatively short deal...according to Flair's book (which you should read if you are interested in the man at all), it sounds like Vince knew he was going to be moving the WWF to a younger and more athletic group of workers, so he probably didn't want to get tied up with having Flair in a long term contract and having nothing for him to do.
  24. The only people who don't "give Steamboat his due" are newer fans who have never seen his work as a wrestler.
  25. "Since I can't remember No Mercy that much, what about the controls were so great? " What was great was that it was simple. All you had to do to grapple was press one button, or hold it longer to do a "strong" grapple. There was one striking button, and it was easy to do basic things like irish whip, pin, climb the turnbuckles, etc. Plus the system for doing a finisher (where you build up your spirit until it flashes) was easy to understand. Taunting was easy and fun to, because you would flick the joystick in one of four directions to do one of your four taunts/poses. Frankly the only game I've ever liked any better was Fire Prowrestling D for Dreamcast, but that was a 2D game.
