When one program clearly creates a new star
Rendclaw replied to humanoid92's topic in General Wrestling
I saw that match on YouTube, and I was shocked that it was such a squash..... -
And I'll attend, myself. Even though I couldn;t afford to go to BFG this time around, I'll make sure I have enough scratch to make the, oh, 20-minute commute to Plymouth.

After what happened in his debut after all of that hype, can you blame them? After getting O'Brien'ed, Heath had better come into this one ready.

I found myself longing for 1989 all over again, the last time the players had enough pride and competitive juice to make the game watchable. The only real bright spot for the East was Dwight Howard, but he was totally eclipsed by the West. The slam dunk contest was complete trash. It is high time to take that dog out back and bust a .45 slug in its head. There are only so many things you can do to dunk a basketball, and it has grown beyond boring. And damn, can Jason Kapono shoot. I knew he was pretty good, but yikes.

That can also be a byproduct of someone's religious upbringing.. I am not making excuses for Tim Hardaway at all, because what he said was reprehensible, and I have lost respect for him as a person because of his narrow-mindedness. There are some facets of Christianity that basically treat homosexuality as a conscious choice, which isn;t exactly right, and then there are others who think it is a disease that can be cured, which is completely wrong. Someone's sexual orientation should not be a qualifier to gauge someone's ability to play a sport. But as John Amaechi said and I agree with him 100%, professional sports are at the height of the male ego and sense of masculinity, and for all of that machismo and testosterone floating around, most of them are threatened by even the slightest hint of homosexuality to an extreme degree, mainly because they are not secure in that masculinity. They wear it like armor, because they are scared to DEATH that someone might be gay, and in their minds the possibility exists that the gay athlete might "seduce" them. That has always been hilarious to me. To be out there playing a sport at the highest level, making insane amounts of money through their team and endorsements and the like, and to have pretty much any woman you want, all of that is jeopardized somehow by the possibility of a gay teammate. The seeming fragility of it all makes me laugh. Last I heard, if a gay man propositions you, you can still say no. I remember the last time I got propositioned... it was by my first ex-fiancee's ex-boyfriend, who was rampantly bisexual. He would fuck anyone, anytime, any place, and vice versa. Myself and my ex were having problems at the time, and he was visiting, and he asked me one night. I have no attraction for men, so I said no and that was the end of it. I didn;t flip, I didn't freak, and in a way I was flattered. The male American athlete, a rather sad commentary on American society.

I really don't want to see Randy get destroyed by Mirko. That is not how one of the best MMA fighters should be remembered, basically being a transitional champion. If he wins, I just do not see him lasting more than three rounds against Mirko. The man is just too devastating.

Hot Shots Fore, Genesis Collection, and NCAA Football 2005. I akways found the battle to be fun and actually strategic, until I figured out how to build up a character to tank and using him to draw out opponents then hammering him from two or three other characters.... and the hard shell character was a fucking BEAST when leveled properly.... took minimum damage and could deal out large amounts of death.

Sorry I misread that...

That was his rookie year, was it not?

You are one of the few fans that admits his homerdom. Good on you.

The only way the Bulls will get respect is doing damage in the playoffs. They are still a young team and make the mistakes a young team makes, although I will say they are doing it less frequently. They need some serious low post scoring and I am sorry, being a Pistons and Magic fan, any team that has Ben Wallace on it (as much as I love the guy on the defensive end) is going to be 4 on 5 on the offensive end. I was rather impressed with their win, even though it was over a depleted and tired Suns team.

The Jazz have been doing this for YEARS. Since the early Stockton/Malone days at least. You would think that the refs would know that going in, and all it would take is calling fouls against them several times before Jerry Sloan would change things around. But I'm not worried because the Jazz had their best shot in 1998 (even though we all know that Jordan pushed off on the game-winning shot), and I do not see them getting anywhere near a sniff at the title.. The West is too deep and too stacked for them to make any serious noise.

The thing is that Wade has more than enough talent to be the next superstar. Unfortunately when someone exhibits that level of talent, David Stern gets this need bordering on obsession to do anything in his power to make him the next Michael Jordan. What makes it worse is that Wade has been flopping and doing a lot of whining when he doesn't get calls, which is rare unto itself, which tells me that he has bought into or is at the least taking advantage of it. I can't blame him in that, I would do the same if I was him. Its just not necessary.
-
And how much of a coincidence is it that Wade has become more vocal, actually calling out Shaq last week? That in itself is long overdue, since Shaq is well on his way to becoming a waste of space due to his terrible conditioning. On top of that, part of Cuban's frustration is that of every team and player that goes up against the teams with the superstars, with Wade and LeBron and Kobe topping that list in that order. All of a sudden its like the player gets a two to three-foot space around him, and if a defending player invades that space, a foul is called. Some of the calls that Wade was getting in the Finals were ridiculous, and I can;t blame Cuban for thinking that the league is out to get him in some ways, even though he did a lot to bring that onto himself and his team.

They don't here in Michigan, and if they did I would be DVRing it big time... I have have found and watched the GHC title matches (Marufuji/KENTA and Marufuji/Mitsuharu) and I am loving it... Marufuji is a straight-up machine. -
On some points, yes. But on others, such as being close to the bench to hear and evaluate his players and coaches (such as his decision to hire Avery Johnson as head coach, a move he himself said he probably would not have made had he not seen the goings on up close), it makes good sense. All of his histrionics and antics aside, he is more of a hands-on owner than any other in the league, maybe even in all of sports (with the possible exception of Jerry Jones, and thats in a bad way IMO), but this is where the reputation he has built up in the first few years of his ownership is coming back to bite him in the ass. That being said, it cannot be denied that David Stern has a hard-on for him, and is trying to aggravate and bully Cuban into selling the team. When the commissioner is making rules that affects one, and only one owner in the league, I would say that its a vendetta.
-
And David Stern wants to squelch him... there are times I wish a younger, more forward-looking commissioner was in charge... he was great during the 80s and 90s, but he is just making mistake after mistake over the last several years, and I think that this personal vendetta against Cuban is going to be his downfall.

I had a notion that getting Webber would help the Pistons, but wow. They just dismantled the Lakers last night... thats good to see after that malaise the Pistons were on before this little run they've put together. I was listening to a podcast of Jim Rome when he had Tex Winter on and Tex's criticism of Kobe is that he is still trying to play the game his own way, trying to force things and not letting the game come to him, and I agree with that.... Kobe has way too much talent to get stuck in this kind of rut... its agreed that he needs better players around him, but trying to force the game one way or another is only going to lead to frustration for him, the Lakers and their fans. Not that it hasn;t already... Melo should have been kept out of the All-Star game for his pussy act that got him suspended.
-
I like both, myself but Roth had it over Hagar and always will. I saw Roth over last summer, and it was a cool show, despite his act being more than just a little tired. Though I love Van Halen I, Fair Warning was the pinnacle for songs during that era..

I love that match, though the Savage/Jake match was better

That's pathetic. Ooh, how exciting. I'm vaguely curious to see Dwight Howard in it, but really, it just ain't what it used to be. It hasn't been anything since 1988 or so....

A-fucking-men to that. I like Manu's game but I have always said that he needs to stop playing like he's in the MSL.

Tennis is general got boring to the casual fan because of a combination of the rise of the pure power game and lack of personalities. The last time the casual fan gave a shit about women's tennis was when Hingis was verbally catfighting with both of the Williams sisters, who were both kicking her ass at the time. Personally I was disappointed that the Swiss Miss would stoop to that level, but it just goes to show that you really don;t know some of these players until they open their traps. Sharapova was the next big thing really, because she was Anna Kournikova with tons of game at 17 years old.... Not to mention any sport gets boring when one person/team wins all the fucking time. That's why men's tennis is suffering, that along with Roddick just not having the mental toughness to beat Federer, or even give him a serious challenge. Nadal seemed to have Roger's number for awhile but Roger has since made the adjustment. That's the only matchup I will watch or record nowadays, but its become like Sampras/Agassi now. A lot of hype but in the end more often than not, Sampras would wipe up the court with Andre. McEnroe said it himself that there haven't been any good personalities in tennis in years. Certainly since he and Connors finally hung it up in the 90s. I do long for the 80s going into the early 90s when you had a little zing to go with a tennis player's game. Not overhype on the level of Agassi, but not on the level of Federer and Sampras, both of whom's combined personalities would fit in a small thimble but thats made up for by their massive talents....
