  1. Because its not after 10pm yet.
  2. I have some very strong concerns about a voucher system that have to do with simple supply and demand: 1. What is preventing private schools from charging more than the voucher is worth? You'd be back to square one since the kids who can't afford private schools into would still not able to afford private schools. 2. The demand for private education will be greater than the supply. This will lead to stiff tuition hikes until you are back to square one since the kids who can't afford private schools into would still not able to afford private schools. 3. Private schools are allowed to be selective about who they admit (this also explains why they appear to get better results). A kid who has gone to a bad school his whole life still wouldn't be able to get in because he wouldn't be able to meet the private school entrance requirements. This is especially true since there would now be greater competition to get in. I don't see a problem with creating a system of charter schools that are publicly funded, except for the fact that a private company would have to step up and do the creating. By contrast, the track we're on right now is starting to work. Thanks to NCLB, districts now have a monetary incentive to hold teachers and students to higher standards. (I'd argue, though, that NCLB is a mixed bag. It sets the bar a little too high, because it doesn't exempt kids who are mentally retarded from testing, and expects every child at some point in the future to score average or above average on state tests. It also sets the bar too low because it allows individual states to establish where the 5 levels of competency should be, so places like Arkansas look like geniuses while kids in Kansas look like they're falling behind.)
  3. This must have been good for him to come back and delete it later. Let's just say that sometimes I type before I think things through and leave it at that. Some of my comments geared towards Justice were uncalled for and I am very sorry I posted them. Like I said, it was late and I wasn't thinking clearly.
  4. RANT RANT RANT...BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...SOMEONE WAS UP PAST HIS BEDTIME...
  5. Even if you privatize education, it still has to be publicly funded or else you'll end up in a situation where some families simply can't afford to send their kids to school.
  6. THIS POST HAS BEEN DELETED DUE TO LATE NIGHT INCOHERENT RANTING.
  7. I think I know who Matt's new tag partner should be...
  8. Africa's a big place. Not all of it was Kunta Kinte running around in a loin-cloth protecting the she-goats from leopards. Eventually some form of trade probably would've developed between more advanced the outer coast and the less developed interior bringing more modern technology to the continent as a whole. And now an episode of "Justice tries to rationalize criminal behavior"... That's a little like saying "I know I raped that girl, but someone else would've raped her eventually." You're still going to jail. This should be pretty simple: You do something wrong. You get blamed for it. You're so missing the point. I'm saying they were better off BEFORE they were, you know, kidnapped and subjugated for 300 years. Europeans screwed that place up royally. Hence the guilt trip. "No, officer, you shouldn't arrest me for raping that girl because the next day someone came along and murdered her!" "I may have raped this girl, but now she's so trashed you might as well let me keep fucking her."
  9. They're still together? Meh. I think every week there's a story that they're breaking up. Poor guys. I've hated him since he was in that monument to bad acting known as "Cruel Intentions". She made up for it by being in "Election", though. That translates in my brain as "she can do better".
  10. They're still together? Meh.

  13. Wait....wasn't Tony Danza in Crash?
  14. What's wrong with using "Cop" on a national network?
  15. nevermind
  16. $30 is a good price, and waiting for 50% off (which may not happen before others snap them up) is only saving another $5.
  17. Its time to start this baby up again, sez I. edit: I don't even remember starting this fucking thread, by the way.
  18. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/03/kat...rown/index.html Not only will this story not go away, it gets more and more amusing.
  19. How come all of you TSM Writers aren't, you know...writing stuff? Kotz, Rando, and Flagg are the only ones who ever seem to post anything.
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhFln_ZAaN4...talie%20portman Of course, I'd bet a million dollars her dialogue was written by an SNL staffer, any Star Wars nerds looking for "real" answers should probably look elsewhere.
  21. That'd be weak reasoning, though. I dislike country, but loved WtL. I'm not a big fan of soul and R&B, but loved Ray. A good movie's a good movie and anyone with anything resembling an open mind shouldn't let their indifference or dislike towards something from skewing their opinions. My sister-in-law's husband is a country music fan, though. My wife thinks he just said he'd watched the movie so her sister wouldn't know where (she suspects) he really was...
  22. Wasn't this the premise of "I, Spy"?
  23. I feel the same way about, well, every movie anymore.
  24. She needs to leave her husband, now. We've been saying that for years.
  25. I ordered the "Goodnight and Good Luck" DVD off of Amazon hoping that it was good, since no theater anywhere near me ever seemed to be playing it. I haven't seen ANY of these movies, although my idiot sister-in-law's idiot husband informs us that "Walk the Line" was one of the worst movies he'd ever seen.
