Thoughts on M-Dogg 20 and J-Pro's...
LucharesuFan619 replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
True...he is a spot monkey. However, unlike some others (i.e. guys who try to do strong style, but can't) and like some others (i.e. New Jack, Supreme, etc.), he sticks to what he knows, and what he knows, he knows INSANELY WELL. He doesn't try to do anything else than spots, and granted - he's not gonna break the #100 in the PWI 500 probably, but what he will do is remain as the very best spot monkey there is. So, the question you have to ask yourself is...is it better to try to do things you can't do and do a decent job overall, or stick to only what you know, even if that's just one particular facet of wrestling, and do it very, very well. That's what determines whether you like him or not, generally. -
Thoughts on M-Dogg 20 and J-Pro's...
LucharesuFan619 replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
So THAT'S what he was stealing...couldn't tell with no sound (Although I gathered it was mocking Hogan). -
I meant to title this thread BYW, instead of BYD. Oh well... I just picked up my first ever Backyard Wrestling DVD, and specifically picked this one b/c I knew it started M-Dogg 20 and Josh Prohibition, two of my preferred indy workers. I didn't really know what to expect b/c I hadn't seen a BYW tape or DVD yet and had only heard about them. Well, I'm pretty happy with what I got. If you're expecting ONLY prepubescent teenagers running around in tights, putting each other through tables wrapped in barbed-wire, covered in tacks, etc....well, you'll see some of that, but it's DEFINITELY not JUST that. The first 15 or so minutes seems to be devoted to those types of clips, but then it turns to almost exclusively the best of Matt & Josh/M-Dogg & J-Pro. The matches they show are clipped, and truth be told, the sound on my comp. doesn't work so I had to watch it with no sound, but it was a pretty damn good buy. Sure, both guys are spotty (ESPECIALLY M-Dogg), but the spots they showed were absolutely amazing. 450s off of the top rope through tables, dives off of balconies, insane cartwheel huracanranas, picture perfect Shooting Star Presses, etc. (by M-Dogg, of course). Josh stayed more mat based on the video and it was M-Dogg doing those spots, but Josh looked very good. Tons of clips of his various "ProhibitionPlexes" (suplex variations). The two friends work VERY well with one another. They start with their backyard footage for several minutes, and then the video continues as they follow them into their pro wrestling matches, after they've been trained. After every 10 or so minutes of the aforementioned spots, a five minute segment is shown of M-Dogg and J-Pro just goofing off - i.e. making fools of themselves, Jackass-style...like walking around in public in their underwear, getting down with chicks outside of bars, etc. Again, I had no sound on my comp., so I didn't know what they were saying, but it was pretty funny, although I really bought the DVD for the wrestling, not the comedy...and truthfully, I don't really care that there was the equivalent of like one hour of comedy b/c for 20 bucks, I also got about 3 hours of spotmania. If you're into spotsfests, this is a video to check out, assuming you can stomach some of the more hardcore clips at the beginning, and the stuff with Madman Pondo...which leads me to - a lot of well known guys make appearances, as clips are shown of M-Dogg and J-Pro working with The S.A.T., Amazing Red, and all of their XPW matches. Yes, that's right - there's clips from every one of their XPW matches, probably about 20 minutes of just XPW footage all together. There's also footage of the Backyard Wrestling Game celebration a.k.a. The Eidos Convention, where they show clips of that whole show, which featured Super Dragon, Madman Pondo, Rudeboy (of JCW), and of course M-Dogg and J-Pro. M-Dogg will absolutely amaze you if you're into spots. He does flippity flippity stuff on this tape I couldn't believe. And J-Pro does some fantastic suplexes and stuff. As for their XPW matches that are shown (albeit in clipped form) - spots form their matches with Chris Hamrick & Tracy Smothers, Shark Boy & Angel, Bobby Quance & Jardi Frantz, and of course MMW are all shown. Fantastic stuff, IMO. Tylene Buck a.k.a. Major Gunns is shown at the Eidos Convention, BTW, albeit really briefly. There's some trailers for upcoming BYW releases, a best of XPW music video (featuring clips only of their pre-Philly days), and a lot more in the extras section. Clips are shown of Josh on "Moral COurt," the TV show, and of other TV coverage backyard wrestling and Josh and M-Dogg have received, although it's primarily kept to clips of them wrestling, as opposed to the promotion BYW has received. Basically, if you're a fan of spots and can stand some violent clips of the no-trained guys in the beginning and the Rudeboy/Madman Pondo match from the convention, you're not gonna be unhappy if you buy this. If you don't like spotty matches i.e. stuff with the SAT, Red, Special K, etc., don't buy this. Also, I guess if you're an XPW fan it'd prolly be a good idea to buy it, because you never know how much of the later stuff will be released, and this has clips of all of Youthanazia's XPW matches. Also, if you're gonna be annoyed when the Jackass-type stunts come on, it prolly isn't a good idea to buy this, because they'res a lot of them, but still - the amount of wrestling (spots, rather) totals like 3 hours or something, it seems (I didn't clock it in obviously, but that's an estimate), so it was a pretty good deal, IMO. BTW, the DVD was just recently released, so you may have trouble finding it. I only found two copies, out of a total of like 30 BYW tapes in the store I got it at. I'm pleasantly surprised it wasn't just hardcore crap with un-trained guys, too, because that's what I was afraid it may be when I was buying it. Sorry for rambling on, but I just thought I'd post my thoughts.

Yeah. I thought he'd know, it was just a matter of getting his attention, so I made a big thread about it, and he eventually found it.

Sandman...You're still alive? I thought you...like...died...or something. You haven't posted here in AGES, it seems, and it was CAGE OF DEATH SEASON, the one time I'd think you'd be most active here. Anyway...Feinberg = Barr Camm? Really? I didn't know that....well, ya learn something new everyday. Barr Camm also often teamed with Z-Barr, back in the day, when Z-Barr was called simply The Barr. They had a gimmick of being photographers and cameramen, I think, and often did commentary for the CZW shows. I'm pretty sure that was them, at least...

http://shootingstar187.hypermart.net/jpg/m.../mustafa_01.jpg I'd REALLY appreciate it if someone could identify the second guy from the left (the fat Samoan). You'd be helping me tremendously. I believe he's a member of the Samoan family lineage (i.e. Samu, Rikishi, Rock, Snuka, etc). and a member of them, but I'm not sure which relative it is (And it may not be one of that family, but I think it is). Anyone have any idea who it is? Thanks in advance. BTW, the show it's from is in early 2000, from what I know.

From what I've heard, Maverick Wild is pretty damn good, and for a girl, so is Mercedes Martinez. And I've heard good things about Dr. Heresy.

They tape matches before the PPV specifically to air on Xplosion, much like how WWE tapes Sunday Night HeAT before RAW and Velocity before SmackDown!. The show's regulars are guys like Erik Watts (whose nickname was "Mr. Xplosion" for awhile, LOL), David Young, Nate Webb (IWA-MS), and Altar Boy Luke (Wildside; formerly XPW). 3 Live Kru also works Xplosion regularly. The matches they show are now not clipped, but it doesn't really matter, because they only last 2 - 4 minutes, literally. Xplosion is used to get the lowercard guys over, and scout potential new talent from around the indy circuit. For example, Wildside wrestlers Caprice Coleman, Gabriel, Masada, and Fast Eddie - all up and comers on the indy circuit - are scheduled for future Xplosion tapings. TNA usually schedules indy wrestlers for Xplosion like a month and a half before the taping actually occurs, so they're pretty organized when it comes to that. If you want a link for archived results of Xplosion tapings, PM me and I'll be happy to send you the link.

There were at least two Stu Hart tribute shows, man. For XPW Free Fall: Kaos' Gauntlet Match For XPW HIH2: GQ Money vs. Angel was one of the top five sleeper matches of 2002; Kraq & Kronus vs. MMW was also a really pleasant surprise, couldn't believe how well MMW carried their pretty much useless opponents

Sorry to say, and I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you're out of luck, holmes. Ain't to grown men groping each other while wearing short tights in Alaska, at least that I know of. Of course, maybe I don't check the right places...

Yeah, I know exactly what ya mean, man? ...WTF kind of jakked (I guess there's a pun intended there...) shit are you on? And you call yourself, "God?" If that's the case, then the world's comin' tumblin' down, matey. You can add to your list of what JR has done this year - Got older than he was last year.

Do Meltzer, Keller, Scherer, etc. have day jobs?
LucharesuFan619 replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
Really? Can anyone confirm this? -
Evolution is taking a leak This piss is evolving like the first bird without a beak When they finally flush They realize they must rush To get to the TV Taping on time They get in the car But instead go to the bar Where they touch each other in places they shouldn't In places they shouldn't (2x) They really, really shouldn't (2x)

No joke - she was a stripper before she met Angle.

LucharesuFan619 replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
I may be wrong, but I severely doubt Vince would ever call up an internet journalist and ask for his opinion on his angle and converse with him. He's revealing his future plans to him. That's bad business. Vince knows better. I may be wrong, but I really doubt they've ever talked to one another directly. -
LXW's return date announced, and matches...
LucharesuFan619 replied to LucharesuFan619's topic in General Wrestling
Who says their stuff in NY wasn't successful? That's how you make it sound... LXW would have a hard time getting the right to run in Viking Hall because it's owned by the Farrington's, who worked for XPW, who isn't liked by the D'Amatos, who own Viking Hall, as will be expanded upon mid next year when I post my major features on the history of ECW, Viking Hall, and XPW (I'll be posting the roots of the promotion part soon, but the part about their Philly run won't be up till mid next year)... I think I just confused myself... -

I can assure you that - while they may have mutual respect for one another - Meltzer does NOT directly converse with JR and/or Vince. -

From the latest Observer online update: Lucha Xtreme Wrestling debuts in Florida on 2/29 at the Raddison Mart Plaza Hotel Convention Center with Shocker vs. Angel for the LXW heavyweight title, Rising Son vs. Super Dragon and more. Rising f'n Son! Nice...Angel vs. Shocker should be fun, if done right. Angel's getting a big shot here, against Shocker, so hopefully he'll be sure to look good. I also learned that Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero will be there.

Oh, OK. My bad. I'm thinkin of getting some of the backyard tapes. Are any of the bumps anything you can't see in CZW of IWA-MS? -

I guess it depends on what you prefer, when it comes to box art. But for those that want a real preview of what's actually on the tape, as opposed to one match (like WWE highlights in their box art), XPW beats WWE by a mile. WWE usually makes their tape box art only like three colors, like with the Steel Cage DVD and others. XPW's tapes stand out at FYE and places even when their placed among WWE tapes, because they're colorful, and really give a preview of what's on the tape. But I guess it comes down to what you prefer. XEG Entertainment Group, which has a site if you want to make sure, produces XPW's DVDs. They send them the footage that they put together on lower quality tapes, and XEG copies it onto higher quality tapes. Up until around late 2002, XPW produced their own tapes. Around 2001, Goldhil Entertainment was the distributor. Couldn't agree more. B/c bleeding like a fucktard equates to Lynn vs. Storm, MMW vs. Gurentai and Youthanazia, Juvi vs. Nicho, etc. Puhleez...read what I said above, about wading through the shit, because once you do that and if you have an OPEN MIND, there's some good stuff.
