  1. The Observer is reporting that he has committed to appearing for two World League Wrestling (Harley Race's fed) shows in February.
  2. Sorry for the double post. Mods, feel free to delete one of them.
  3. OK. So, I have yet to see ANY IWS. I haven't even downloaded anything from their web site, although I'm gonna in the first time in about 5 minues. After reading the reviews here, I decided it's worth checking out. So, being that I have yet to see anything of their product and know little about their storylines, what tape do you recommend I start on?
  4. Dreamer won the tag titles with I believe Johnny Gunn (?) early in ECW's existence, so he already had held a title.
  5. There is more to life outside our little wrestling world. Agreed. I was quite confused about where he got that info from. You know Hulk's real last name isn't Hogan, right? Just checking...Oh, and what's the point of dropping wrestlers' realk names? I can't stand that. It's not "cool," like those who do it seem to think it is. I'm glad to see so many were enthralled by the article, regardless of whether or not in a negative manner or a positive manner.
  6. By "The Headliner" (whoever that is) Vincent Kennedy McMahon is not popular with Internet wrestling fans. One might even go so far as to call him the fourth most criticized individual on the Web, behind only George W Bush, Bill Gates and, of course, Triple H. In fact Bill Goldberg probably falls in at around number five, so Net fans can hardly be pleased that he and The Game are still feuding over the World Title. And who is responsible for irking the online crowd in this way? That's right - Vince McMahon. You see my point. Whatever is deemed to be wrong with the professional wrestling industry, however, you can be sure Vinnie Mac will be awarded the blame. Be it the lack of competition, the low status of Lance Storm or the departure of Jeff Hardy, McMahon will always foot the bill in terms of online accusations. Is it any wonder that VKM has such disdain for the Internet, when Ask Jeeves suggests "Problems Of Xfl" as an additional search term to his name? Of course, Vince is the chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment, the largest and most dominant pro wrestling organization in the world, and as such he naturally enjoys (and shoulders) a certain amount of responsibility for the direction of not only his company, but the industry as a whole. He is without doubt the most influencial man in the wrestling business. Therefore, many changes in that business are and will be a result of decisions he has made. And Vince McMahon, like any other human being, makes mistakes. Yet for all of his perceived errors in judgment, Vince McMahon is most likely the reason that you became a wrestling fan. There are exceptions to every rule, but the odds are strongly in favor of WWF/E television being the first wrestling show you ever watched. You may have expanded your horizons since then, and may even have left WWE behind in favor of NWA:TNA or other, independent groups. But, the chances are, WWE will always be responsible for getting you hooked on the sport, and the man who made that happen is the subject of this column. One of the most frequent accusations thrown Vince's way is that he is "holding down" a certain wrestler. If a seemingly deserving athlete doesn't make it to the top in a given time period, it's because he's being held down. But on further consideration, how much sense does that theory really make? Vince McMahon is paying this performer's wages. He may be a rich man, but with all the cuts already being made in the company, can he really afford to keep somebody on his roster from whom he doesn't expect to earn results? Is there any logic at all in employing somebody, only to hold them back from achieving what they are capable of achieving? The financial formula is simple: The more true Superstars that are sold to the masses, the more money Vince makes. So to cry allegations of "holding down" appears to be the easy answer, but far from a sensible one. Elsewhere, McMahon is often lambasted for the death of regional wrestling. Now let's look at that one. Okay, perhaps the territories at the time suffered at the hands of this new competition in the marketplace. But recall what I said about WWE's part in attracting you to wrestling. If Vince McMahon had not gambled on expanding his company across North America, do you believe pro wrestling in general would have the fanbase that it has today? Would Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling or even the old ECW have garnered worldwide attention, if the world wasn't already familiar with WWE? Instead of suffering an untimely death, these regional promotions have seen their potential audience explode, thanks to the exposure that VKM created for his own product. But if we decide to ignore this fact and imagine that Vince has killed off any chance of competition for his beloved WWE, let's ask ourselves one question: Can we really blame him? Almost any businessman with a lick of ambition would do the same thing in McMahon's position. Who doesn't want to be the most successful in their chosen field? The difference between McMahon and his fellow dreamers, however, is that he had the balls to make it a reality. His national expansion of WWE wasn't, as many of his detractors believe, simply a matter of going back on his father's word not to compete, and laughing sadistically at the fruitless attempts of his new competitors. The truth is, Vince and his team of upstarts were threatened by failure every step of the way, dealing mainly in bluffs and critical risks, never truly knowing if they would succeed. Luckily for us, the wrestling fans of today, they did. And lucky for us also is the fact that some of the armchair bookers we hear so much from on the Web are still in their armchairs, and not behind a desk at Titan Towers. Let us not forget that majority rules - and this is something many Internet fans hate, because like it or not, Internet fans make up a definite minority in WWE's audience. Going back to Lance Storm, he may be the Internet's golden child, but the harsh fact remains that his ring style just doesn't interest a large enough portion of the fanbase to justify the kind of push most online columnists would try to give him. This is reflected in his live crowd reactions, and thus in his position on the card. Technically sound he may be, but WWE fans on the whole will not fully accept this style into their hearts until there is a degree of intensity involved. In my opinion, Chris Benoit has this, Lance Storm does not. But the online critics will sooner blame McMahon for the lesser Canadian's disappointing spot on the card, citing poor gimmicks or not enough mic time. Because naturally, it's always Vinnie Mac's fault. Just like it was Vinnie Mac's fault when Jeff Hardy became more concerned with "personal issues" than with being a WWE Superstar. And this is, of course, the same Vinnie Mac who recently had the barefaced gaul to put the World Title on a man whose name was being chanted in arenas up and down the country. Despicable. Vincent Kennedy McMahon is not popular with Internet wrestling fans. But although I know it's not going to happen, some day I would like to see newcomers log onto a wrestling discussion board without feeling they must immediately insult the man before they can truly fit in. Because if it weren't for that failed football promotor, neither they nor I would be discussing wrestling at all. The Headliner appreciates your feedback, so please email any comments to: [email protected] That was really well written and made some very true points. I think everyone who calls themself a wrestling fan should give it a read, sometime or another.
  7. I'm picking Raven. Taz made his own belt; yes, he helped built the ECW title, but he alsu spent time putting over the FTW belt, so I can't find it in me to rate him #1. Raven changed what a heel in wrestling is, and he did so to a large degree with the help of the ECW title. Shane Douglas comes in at a not close, but not too far either, second place. The promos he cut back in the day were good (until they got stale, like they've been for the last several years). I don't know who'd come after that - Sandman or Taz. You could really argue either one.
  8. I don't think it happened... Michrobe, do you mean vs. Red/Eddie in ROH?
  9. Larry Goodman of NWA-Wildside.com is reporting that NAWA's Adam Roberts (one half of Alabama Attitude, alongside T.C. Carnage) has a dark match scheduled at tomorrow's TNA PPV. I've never seen the guy work. Has anyone even heard've him?
  10. Corino confirmed on his web site that he'll be taking the MLW booking on 1/10, instead of the NWA-FL booking.
  11. Same with Bryan Danielson. As late as yesterday evening, both their names were also listed on the MLW events page for the 1/9 show. Now their names are off the list of talent appearing on that show. My guess is they both wanted off to work the ROH show instead and Bauer decided that if they couldn't work that show, he wouldn't have them back for any show (like he did with Red when Red was injured). If MLW is smart (and so far they have not been), they will use this "opporutnity" to build a more unique roster and a more unique product to offer the area. If Danielson is added to the JAPW/ROH show along with a couple of other guys (Joe, Briscoes, ect.) then the show should turn out to be really solid especially for a "last minute" deal. Very wierd. I was reading his bio on MLW's site just last night. Hijinx is a member of Special K.
  12. Courtesy of the ROH Board: Ring of Honor is proud to announce a joint show with Jersey All-Pro Wrestling. The show will take place on Friday, January 9th, 2004 in Woodbridge, NJ at the Woodbridge Armory. This event will feature talent from both rosters that will feature JAPW talent plus top Ring Of Honor stars including Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles and more to be announced in the upcoming weeks. Advanced seating tickets will be available at ROHwrestling.com, RFVideo.com or by calling 215-891-9404. Limited tickets will be also sold through JAPW's website at www.japw.net Matches already signed for this event are Dan Maff vs. Slyk Wagner Brown, and in a 6-Man Tag Team Scramble match will have Insane Dragon, Azrieal & Jay Lethal vs. Deranged, Dixie & Hijinx. More top matches will be signed and announced in the upcoming weeks. Be there that night as two top promotions on the east coast combine to make an unbelievable action packed event. The show is within an 1 hour driving distance from NYC and Philadelphia to be accessible to all the hardcore and die-hard fans of the area. Maff/Slyk sounds quite interesting. If done right, it could be good. Has it ever happened in JAPW, since both guys work there so often? Oh, and there's a problem - As Rob Naylor pointed out on the ROH board, Chris Daniels is booked for MLW on this same date. Something tells me one of the bookings he hasn't confirmed yet. Which one? That IS the question...
  13. The Briscoes were trained first at ECWA's WrestleTech School, where Glenn Osbourne was the head trainer. They then went to the CZW school and were trained by Jon Dahmer and - yes, indeed - none other than Van Hammer. The SAT's school has been open for awhile now. They've already trained their brother, Willy Maximo, who has worked for the now defunct PWA in CT (I've seen him live, but didn't realize that he was their brother at the time, so I didn't pay much attention to him) and was backstage at the 8/16 ROH show in CT. Angel Maximo is another trainee of The SATs, I think. I'm basing that on the fact that he/she (?) has the same last name and regularly works the same USA Pro shows as they do. You'd get a better answer if you asked this on the ROH board, but I don't think either of those guys ever trained the Briscoes, and to my knowledge Wifebeater has never trained anybody, thankfully.
  14. NWA Florida's site is reporting that their own Frankie Capone, the storyline CEO of NWA-FL, will work a match before this week's show, and that match will air on Xplosion.
  15. Deranged is suspended from ROH for no-showing a show, even though it wasn't his fault (his ride to the show never came). He'll work USA Pro, definitely, since that's his only chance. And ya, it appears Raven is out of MLW, so he'll be choosing between USA Pro or ROH.
  16. Ppl. at the show are saying it was AT LEAST 30 and one said that it seemed like they were building for an Ironman Match. I don't think it was a mistake. It was said to be pure torture (the main event).
  17. RESULTS, COURTESY OF PWBTS.COM USA Pro Wrestling "End Of An Era" Results" Elks Lodge (Queens NY) 11/29/2003 Announced Attendance: 1468 Reported by Anthony DeBlasi USA Pro Wrestling presented the last ever wrestling event at the Elks Lodge with an announced crowd of 1468! You could not move in the building without knocking over someone. Despite the arena being elbow room only, the chilly weather outside kept the arena from becoming too hot. Match #1-Fred Sampson Defeated Tommy Trouble in the opening contest at 4:38 with a powerslam and pin. Good way to start things off, as these two worked well in the ring. Many remember Fred Sampson as the security guard during Smackdown 2 weeks ago. Match #2 The Invitational King Of The Young Guns Elks match won by Papalicious in 19:05...Others involved in the match included Travis Blackchurch with Penny Dreadful,Ken Scampi,Angry Young Man,Pappalicious,J-Kronic,Jay Static,Johnny TNT, Justin Cage, JAV, Sabotage, Afato,Remy and Chris Danger The Truck Driver. After the number of high risk spots during the match, we are happy to report noone was injured. Matchv#3 Christopher Street Connection def The Solution w/ Miss Michelle 8:44 when Buffy pinned Papadon (The CSC are very funny with their antics as always. Great match, where these 2 teams work well against each other. Funny how males at ringside litterally skip over to CSC for kisses!) Match #4-Los Lunatics became the first 6 man Triad Title Holders, defeating Trailer Park Trash, Elm Street Kids, Rob Fury, Envy and Jimmy Hustler in 12:46. Every team worked their asses off during this match. Fans get nice pop to each team for their work. Match #5 M-Tizzle aka Mike Tobin def Prince Nana in 2:42 (Prince Nana got huge heat over the crowd last night berating the fans in attendance. Something about Nana on the mic that just oozes crowd heat. Funny segment when he compated a father who brought his 6 year old son to Michael Jackson.) Match #6 First Time Ever! In what is being considered the match of the year, Low-Ki defeated Sonjay Dutt in 18:50 with a Ki-Krusher 99 and pin. They both exchanged moves and counter moves and outdoing each other the fans ate it up and awed in amazement. Get the video or DVD when it comes out and you'll see how amazing this match was. This was the first time ever these 2 faced off 1 on 1, and it will not be the last. This match was simply a work of art in the ring. Match #7- Mike Kruel w/ Simply Lucious def Crowbar Devin Storm with Serena in 14:30 to win the vacated USA PRO US Title last held by Billy Reil (Read my notes below on title change) After the match, Simon Diamond and Matt Stryker along with Bobcat looking like GI Hoe came out and offered Mike Kruel & Luscious to be part of Knightlife, which Kruel accepts. At one point, Kruel tried to strut, which looked more like a robot that hadn't been greased in a while. Masked Maniac came out and did a shoot about the history of The Elks and said if it wasnt for ECW, USA Pro wouldnt have been here. He brought up past feds that had history in the building as well. Real classy talking on Maniac's part. He then brings in Dana Dameson, who came out in a Yankees jersey with barely anything underneath. Obviously the Yankees got a huge pop. If I were her though, I would have came out in a Boston jersey, and kept it on. Anyway Maniac berates her about being a ring rat, and then gives her a powerslam. Ken Sweeny comes out and attacks Maniac. Match #8 Masked Maniac def Ken Sweeney in 6:47. At one point during the match, Maniac literally climbed the window in the corner of the arena and splashed onto Sweeny thru the DOI merchandise table. I cant remember when Masked Maniac received three Holy Shit chants. Quite a few in attendance didnt see the spot - get the video! Maniac is not the best wrestler out there, but doesn't hold back on taking and giving a beating. Match #9 Lowlife Louie Ramos won a hardcore match defeating "The Bison" Johnny Bravado, The New Dynamite Kid and Danny Damanto in 12:53, referee was The Motivator...Very brutal and bloody match which saw a Home Depot Hand Saw, Frying Pan, Pizza Cutter, Baseball Bat with thumbtacks, Baseball Bat with Christmas Ornaments attached, Cookie Sheets, Staple Gun and Lemons! During the match Valet Amanda Violet had a dollar bill stapled into her head once again by Louie. Bravado and Demanto took Louie's boot and sock off, and stapled a dollar bill onto Louie's foot! OUCH!!!! Not only did it look sick, but they stapled it to the middle of the foot, not the heel. They opened up a few Lemons and started to rub it in Louie's gash in his arm which was about an inch deep. Match ended when Louie hit Bravado with a flaming bat and a Death Valley Driver for the pin. After the match, the three were beating down Louie when Reefer came out with a chair. As the three cleared the ring, Reefer held Louie's hand up in the air, then smashed a chair over his head. Crowd was amazed at Reefer who trashed the crowd and said he was the King of NY. Reefer smashed a broomstick over Bravado's head then went to the back. Louie challenged Reefer later for Feb 14th which will go down. Louie plans on ripping out Reefer's heart and setting it on fire! Match #10 Deranged retained the USA PRO X-TREME TITLE defeating Johnny Ova and Dan Barry in 6:23. This match literally was put together 30 min before the show started, as the doctor in attendance would allow Reefer to wrestle (Broken Foot). Reefer, with gear was ready to work the match, but doctors refused. The match was decent, especially keeping in mind that none of the three expected to face each other at the show. Match #11 Mikey & Wayne w/Tara def Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in 9:51. Funny beginning where SAT's music played with Mikey and Wayne wearing S.A.T. outfits. Since Mikey gained a few pounds, there were calling themselves the F.A.T. DRS gave the fans what they wanted: They told them to %##%#% off! The cheers and high fives of the fans is basically taking their focus off their matches. They want to focus on winning rather than the fans, which got the crowd pissed. Kudos to KC Blade, who worked the match with a bad foot and ankle. The doctor in attendance allowed him to work, solely because it wasn't broken and was able to be mobile. Match #12 Balls Mahoney def Axl Rotten in a hardcore challenge in 8:21, when Balls hit the Nutcracker DVD Into a bed of thumb tacks. Balls and Axl both gave two emotional speeches, one before and one after the match. They toasted the Elks Lodge, NY, and their fans which was pretty emotional. Both were bloody and used forks, pizza cutters, scissors. Sick part where they went to each side of the ring, to allow the ringsiders see them carve each other up close and personal. After the match, Ken Scampi came out and complained at both of them. The result, Scampi getting pounded and chairbashed. Scampi basically looked like he belonged in a chum pot after the beatdown. Match #13 Chris Candido w/ Tammy & Bam Bam Bigalow def Simon Diamond and Matt Stryker in 11:10. Fresh off their tour of Puerto Rico, Candido & Tammy were back in USA Pro. Tammy looked like she lost at least 20 pounds, and Candido's groin looked like it was fine. Kudos to Bam Bam Bigelow, who looked 100% after recovering from back surgery. Before the match, Shane Douglas came out with them and gave props to the building, its history, and the Triple Threat before trashing the fans. The match was decent, with all 4 working well in the ring. After the match, Douglas got on the mic and told the crowd he was going to cripple the NY fans' icon, a drunk.Funny when he was comparing Philly & NY as the "armpits of America". Match #14 "The Francise" Shane Douglas defeated The Sandman in 9:14. This match was cut a bit short as The Sandman was bleeding from the ear due to a singapore cane shot. No word to the extent of his injury, but blood was visibly coming out of his ear. Match #15 FOR THE USA PRO HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP Champion Raven defeated Al Snow in 47:56. The match started slow, until out of nowhere, Mikey interfered and hit a backflip over the top rope, over the guard rail onto Al Snow who had been thrown over earlier. Funny interraction at the beginning with the fans and Raven. After the match, the Triple Threat came out and destroyed Raven for about 10 minutes, with Douglas challenging Raven for the USA Pro Heavyweight Title. Douglas berated Raven and the crowd on the mic which infuriated the crowd. The crowd started to throw beer and water bottles into the ring, which resulted in Bam Bam Bigelow giving the fans a "Full Moon" in the Elks Lodge. It was funny but incited the crowd even more. With the beatdown of Raven, Shane totally trashing the crowd, and Bam Bam's ass, The Triple Threat were showered with beer, soda, and garbage from the heel heat. Big difference when you get showered with garbage due to heel heat, then getting it for a bad match. Triple Threat received major heel heat at the end, which will carry over to the next show in Long Island. End of show, "End of An Era", as the Elks Lodge closes it doors to wrestling. Notes: The next USA Pro Show, St.Valentines Day Massacre will take place on Saturday February 14, 2004 at USA Pro's new home, Sportime on 4105 Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage, Long Island NY...Someone buy the DJ a CD Cleaner. Some tunes skipped during the entrances. However, cool spot when Balls Mahoney had the fans and him do an Acapella of "Big Balls"....US Title was vacated from Billy Reil, as he had to take time off since he is expecting a baby this weekend....Reefer has a legitimate broken foot....KC Blade of DRS worked the match despite nursing an injured foot and ankle a few weeks back....Becky Bayless could not make the show in time due to family committment....Several wrestlers who had a history in the Elks Lodge, wanted and were given extra time in their matches since this was the last show in the building. Several wrestlers were legitimately choked up at the building closing. Bethpage will be the new home of USA Pro and there will be a bus trip from The Elks Lodge to Bethpage Long Island for anyone that can't get there by car or train. Matches already announced for 2/14: - Raven © w/ The Flock vs Shane Douglas w/ Triple Threat - Lowlife Louie Ramos vs Reefer - Stipulations To Be Announced - Sabu vs ???? - Bikini Contest Involving Becky Bayless, April Hunter, Simply Luscious, Dana Dameson, Miss Michelle, Miss Sinful, Amanda Violet, Penny Dreadful, Bobcat, & Tara Charisma. Also scheduled: Balls Mahoney, Axl Rotten, D'LO Brown, Steve Corino, Crowbar, Mike Kruel, Simond Diamond, Matt Stryker, Masked Maniac, DRS, Mikey & Wayne, Sonjay Dutt, Deranged, Billy Reil, Slyk Wagner Brown and more. More matches to be announced in the upcoming days. Visit USAProWrestling.com and their message board for updates on the 2/14 event. Big thanks to Ivan Rothstein for helping me with the results and the match times. Much appreciated. What's funny is that Eric Walker uses the results provided by Mr. DeBlasi, the same guy he and Bob Magee were writing columns demeaning the credentials of this time last year. Oh, how times change...
  18. DeathValleyDriver.com's board has a review of the show. And so does DeclarationOfIndependents.com. Or is it .org? I forget...one of those two extensions, I think... Shocker/Ultimo was said to be off the charts.
  19. BEST. QUOTE. EVER.
  20. There's two variations to the move - 1. you can do a non-cradle version or 2. you can stick your arm in between the guy's legs and add the cradle to it. Version 1. was Tommy Dreamer's Dreamer Driver. Version 2. was Hayabusa's H Thunder. I'd describe Emerald Frosion/Fusion as being a Side Sitdown Bodyslam Piledriver, with a Single-Leg Cradle added in if you so desire.
  21. The first show was for sale at the second show. R. Kairey (LXW's press guy) told me they're gonna be releasing them on video via the LXW web site any day now. You prolly won't have to wait long.
  22. I know TSM was planning on doing this each week, but for some reason the guy doing them stopped after the first week. Anyway, I'm trying to find archived recaps of TNA Xplosion. I know the Observer has reports in their Headlines section, but that only goes back so far. Anyone know of any sites w/ summaries of the past shows? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Nevermind. Someone pm'ed me a great site for archived reports of the show, WrestlingDB.com.
  23. Yes, I went. Doesn't mean I wrote down the results.
  24. I'm looking for the results to LXW's debut show. Anyone know where I can find them? I tried searching Yahoo.com and only the results to the second one can be found.
