It's hard to say with him. Was last year just an off year, or was he overachieving the previous two years? He had a couple of pretty bad seasons his last two years in Atlanta.
-
There's a Saturday game every week for the rest of the season. There is no Thursday game in Week 17, though.
-
The Niners are probably wishing the league actually had suspended the game. They suck.
-
Does he not realize the Cubs just have a bad front office?

I'm coming late to the entrance music party, but I did notice this one: Ivan Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers: "Latino Heat", Jim Johnston Nice.
-
Looks like the Seattle-San Fran game is being suspended. The field isn't in good enough shape due to some heavy rain.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

Same here. I think Vince got in a lot of trouble with USA for letting all that slip though. -
I can't think of too many other players who've fallen faster than Vidro. He was near Vlad Guerrero's level when they were both with the Expos around the turn of the century, in popularity and talent level. He was one of the top 3 second basemen in the league. It's a shame that injuries have hit him so hard the last few seasons. I hope he can turn it back around.

With IE7, I always have to re-enter my Login/Password
CanadianChris replied to Celtic Jobber's topic in Technology
I use IE6 at work and Firefox 2.0 at home, and I have to log in again whenever I switch computers. I think the board will only let you be logged in in one place at one time. -
Sidney Crosby has five points in the first 30 minutes of the Pens-Flyers game. It's his first five-point game as a pro.

There's a fun little poll over at ESPN.com to determine who would make up the best line ever. They give you 50 of the all-time best forwards, and you use 12 to construct four lines. http://proxy.espn.go.com/nhl/toplines/vote...mp;lid=tab2pos1 My lines looked like this: First line: Bobby Hull-Wayne Gretzky-Maurice Richard Second line: Ted Lindsay-Mario Lemieux-Gordie Howe Third line: Frank Mahovlich-Jean Beliveau-Guy Lafleur Fourth line: Bob Gainey-Howie Morenz-Mike Bossy

Things we didn't know a year ago

SmackDown would turn out to be better than Raw. The only men to hold the WWE title in 2006 would be John Cena, Edge and Rob Van Dam. Vince would hire Sabu and give him a push. JBL would be the best commentator in the company. -
I don't understand why Matsuzaka hired Scott Boras as his agent if he was so eager to come to North America. Any contract negotiation with Boras is going to be like pulling teeth.
-
Just because the Royals severely overpaid for Meche isn't a reason to suggest the Sox are being cheap. Not to mention that Matsuzaka is still completely unproven in the majors.
-
No points for anyone.
-
It won't be much more than 126 million, unless some team is willing to tack some extra years on. I doubt Wells will become the fifth $20-million man in baseball.
-
I cannot see him taking the contract. With the way the Yankees and the Red Sox are run and with their payrolls it is really hard to compete in the AL East. If I were him, I would go to the Angels and be playing in the playoffs every year instead of wondering if the Yankees or the Red Sox are going to stumble. Toronto has a good team but I wouldn't want to be on a team that is playing for second or third place every year. Oh, come on. Athletes follow the money. That would be the sixth-largest contract in baseball, and he's guaranteed to get paid until he turns 34. Plus, it's not a foregone conclusion the Yankees and Sox will be on top of the division for the next seven years, nor that the Angels will be on top of theirs. I'm sure Yankee fans thought the team was invincible coming out of the 70s, and look how that turned out.

The Sens game was on PPV, so I couldn't watch it, but listening on the radio, Emery had a senational game. The Sens held off a superior Red Wings team and stole a 3-2 win.

RBI is the most overrated offensive statistic there is, aside from batting average. You can't look at RBI when you're making critical comparisons of players, especially those of different eras. I never even look at RBI when comparing players, because it's meaningless to me. OPS+ is not determined by the era, because it's expressed as a percentage of the league average at the time. And it has nothing to do with runs scored or runs driven in. OPS+ tells me that Jeff Bagwell was a better hitter in his era than Jim Rice was in his, because he was higher above the league average.
-
If you read it carefully, you'd notice that I used OPS+, not OPS.
-
Uh... HOLY SHIT.
-
But we CAN compare OPS+, which is independent of time, for all these guys. Dawson - 119 Rice - 128 McGriff - 134 Bagwell - 150 It's a huge difference, far too large to say Bagwell wasn't better than everyone else on that list.
