The intentional walk came with one out, first base open, runners on 2nd and 3rd. You set up the double play in that situation. The runner on first doesn't matter, because if the first two runners score, it's over anyway. Plus it was Soriano at the plate. That's just about the last guy on the Nationals I want hitting in that situation.
